- An excellent day lure fishing from the rocks. Catching Mackerel and my personal best Pollack so far this year.
In this video I show you how to fish a metal lure from the rocks using the count down technique to catch pollock and mackerel.
I kept the pollock for the pan and shallow pan fried it to have with chips and mushy peas a classic English dish.
The lure I was fishing with was a 60g Razorclaw Silver Minnow.

He has flesh, his body is soft, like women. What bait can I use to catch this fish? Does Iran exist this fish?
Mint that pollock 🎣
That's a proper pollock, Been a long time since I seen anything that size come out in Shields.
Jaysus, that pollock wanted that lure badly. He hit it like a howitzer.

Haven’t got to go all the way to at Abbs to catch big bad pollock anymore. What a fish mate, if I caught one like that I’d have to put the lotto on and get a few scratchys on the way yehem. Smashing video Gaz keep up the good work 👍
Thanks mate 👍 imagine how many rods I could buy if I won the lottery 😄
Nice method, must try that, well done mate 👍
Thanks Johnny 👍
Well done mate, that is a pollock and a half from the shore, great video.
Thanks mate.
Love the content... Please could you make a video of what time of year is best for certain fish? I always seem to miss the Mackeral, and then I'm too early for the codling 👍🏻
Nice one
Thanks.
Cracking Pollock mate well done was on the pier yesterday had a few mackerel weather wasnt great but still nice to be out catching
Thanks mate 👍 yeah always good to be out no matter the weather.

I'm that impressed with your catch ive come of UA-cam on playstation and logged in on my phone just to say cracking catch mate 👍 not the fish the worm 😂
😄 aye I could do with catching a whole load of them would save me a fortune on bait 😄
Nice Pollock mate
Thanks mate.
Never fished the Lee's. Gonna try one day. Never caught a pollock that big. Some fish. Great video. Off to shields pier tomorrow morning (Wednesday) gonna be a nice day according to the weather forecast.
Its a canny place to fish one of my favourites along our bit of the coast. Good luck on the pier.
I know its a old video but what a cracking fish off the rocks.
I have literally just finished watching your last video you uploaded 😲
Nice one 👍
Good talking to you the other day mate, love your stuff
Thanks mate always good to chat when I'm out fishing 👍
Top fella, most aren’t so friendly. Me and kids got 10 macs last night. Thank you
Thanks mate I was buzzing with it 👍
Great video.
Shame you didn't have another light spinning rod with you already rigged up with a medium sized dexter/ish wedge. It is great to have the weight to cast long but with the bait fish and smaller mackerel being pushed in it was just begging for a lighter lure to work the water under that feeding frenzy.
I envy you being local to the rocks. Have you tried using a teaser lure ? Excellent Pollock, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jeremy. I havent tried that before but ill give it a try sometime thanks for the tip.
Cracking video thanks Gary - lovely Pollock too. I've had a huge plate of Scampi & chips earlier but you've made me hungry again now! Nice one mate - stay safe & well. 👍👍
Thanks trampster 👍 you too mate stay safe.
What leader do use? Tapered? What would you recommend 🤔, excellent fish funny enough that's about the same size as my shore caught PB Pollack 😄 nice one, mine was just a bit bigger low 😉
I wasn't using a leader in this video I was just fishing straight through with braid but I usually use 25lb amnesia.
Cracking pollock that
Thanks Declan 👍
What lb braid was you using?
Nice one marra! congrats on the PB. New to the channel and new to sea fishing too. I'm taking me son to south sheilds pier the morn to try mackerel fishing for the first time! We have been watching your videos for the last few days ! I Just hope my Carp rods hold up lol. Cheers for the videos mate good stuff!
Thanks mate, welcome to the channel 👍 I used to use a carp rod for spinning got a good fight off the mackerel on it. Good luck
Where did you buy fishing gears cos the one I bought I used it once it was all rubbish and it was broken
where to find a comfortable from place fishing access from rock?
What rod are you using?
New subscriber brother
Thanks 👍
Excellent video Gary and wow what a pollack that was I bet you got a fright when it came to the surface
Thanks JV, aye I was bricking it incase the braid touched the rocks and it pinged off I think i would have dived in for it if it did haha.
@@fishingintheukgarywood haha me too nice one
If your going fishing on the rocks tomorrow and want a +1 will be more than happy to come along. Had gone along today but someone had gone over the top of a cliff so gave it a miss
Cracking video buddy and what an amazing pollock !!! Well done … so what does it taste like as I’ve never had one before ??? Would love to try some rock fishing … so what size rod , reel and line do you think would be ok ??? Cheers and all the best 😀👍🏽🎣
Thanks John, it tastes a bit like cod...... im currently using a 10ft spinning rod that casts 10 to 60g , 5000 size reel and 25 or 30lb braid with 20lb amnesia rubbing leader.
@@fishingintheukgarywood it’s just handy info to use if I do manage to try some of that style of fishing so much appreciated for that valuable info ….. all the best and keep catching them fish .. look forward to your next video 👍🏽😀.. p.s subscribed 👍🏽👍🏽
Great video, as a newbie I was wondering how high up on the rocks would you cast from , thanks
Thanks Allan.
Closer the better mate
Hello. Have you ever tried with a bombarda and a red gill? It is very effective.
Hello, no I haven't tried that before.
where abouts in the uk are you fishing ? im in Newcastle for uni and was wondering if you had any tips for good spots to fish pollock or mackerel! thanks
This was in south shields about 30 mins from Newcastle.Tynemouth, south shields and roker piers are good for mackerel and pollock through the summer.
I'm not sure what gear you are using but it doesn't look like super expensive kit, maybe im wrong. But if im right im glad to see UA-cam fishermen able to show that you don't need to spend a fortune to fish! Late to the party but we'll in big fella!
Thanks, yeah its just an old rod that I got given off my dad years ago and a budget reel.
@@fishingintheukgarywood new to fishing and the channel. You've got a lot of helpful stuff on here man. I'll be sure to like and share!
Cracking fish mate. Where are is the Leas mark at Shields.
Thanks mate its between frenchmans Bay and Marsden.
what did it weigh.
Six and a half pound
Do you ever let the big ones go mate just curious? Great channel tigh lines 🙏🎣
Thanks mate. Yes, I usually only take a few a year for the table.
@@fishingintheukgarywood you should come 🇮🇪 bro for a cast
Where about are this rocks more exactly?
Heyup mate, does this stretch of rocky coast between Trow Quarry car park and Marsden Bay fish best on lures at high tide? I went there just after low tide yesterday and it seemed a bit sketchy to get down close enough to the sea (I believe I went from Trow Quarry to just past Frenchmans Bay)
Hi mate, yes I usually try to fish from about 2 hours before high water to an hour or so after high.
@@fishingintheukgarywood Nice one mate, makes sense. I saw some pretty nice looking big flat rock platforms, gonna try on those next time I'm there!
Really nice place for fishing. I would love to go there. Any post code? Thanks
Southshields mate head twds the pier and walk along the coast twds the cliffs lots of fishing spots between shields and souter lighthouse ✌️
Cracking fish m8 but what did it weigh
Thanks mate it was six and a half pound 72cm.
Was on that spot on Saturday. Got a few mackerel and a coley. 7ft rod and 28g razorclaw with single hook instead of treble. Was hitting the mackerel on the drop near the bottom. Great fun. Think I would’ve had a heart attack if I'd hooked that pollack.
I usually take the lighter rod and 28g but for some reason decided to take the heavier rod and spinners, glad I did now think I would have struggled to get it in with the lighter rod but it would have been an excellent fight.
Hi m8 I live near whitburn, where abouts is this spot please?
Hi mate, it's the leas between frenchmans bay and Marsden beach.
@@fishingintheukgarywood Cheers Gary,easy access?and thanks again!
It's a bit of a walk and slight scramble down and across the rocks.
Belta Garry, what rod where you using for that.
Thanks baz, its a really old rod i got off my dad im not sure what make it is.
i smelt that Pollack in my computer in my house joe
Very nice.. Is it chatney tgat green item in your dish?
Thanks..... its mushy peas.
@@fishingintheukgarywood thanks bro.. For replying.. 😍
When is the best time to fish that location, tide coming in or going out what's best spinner to use . Cheers
I usually fish it over high water. Best spinner razorclaw silver minnow.
Cheers I'm going to head there tomorow I'll let you know how I get on
Cheer mate good luck.
Cracking Pollack Gary! Is it worth fishing there at low tide, or is it too snaggy at low?
Thanks Gary, its worth a try. its not very deep over low but the snaggy ground gives way to clear sand with a decent cast you can reach it.
@@fishingintheukgarywood cheers Gary, I might try a float over the rough stuff 👍
No probs let me know how you get on.
Fair play to you, Sir. Did you eat the whole thing in one day lol?
Yes I shared it with my family.
what spots can I go to to do some shore jigging near Wirral ?
I'm not sure I haven't fished near the wirral before.
Where exactly is this mate? I’m from the area just don’t recognise the exact place?
It's just past frenchmans bay.
how do you avoid snags in those areas whilst using metal lures with trebles?????
I use the countdown method when fishing the lure so I can fish near the bottom but not get snagged on the bottom. It works most of the time but there's always a risk of getting snagged fishing over heavy ground.
Really nice pollack that, what was it 5lbs?
Thanks it was six and a half.
great catch wd..2 ice cream vans and a burger van at that mark today :)
Thanks 😄 aye probably.
can you catch macky off whitley pipe
I'm not sure I haven't fished off there before.
Is this elephant rock mate ?
I'm not sure of the name of the mark mate.
magic Pollock don't forget the skin deep fried fish scrachings like
Haven't tried that before Leslie ill have to give it a go with the next one.
drooling, did you catch the chips and mushers as well?
Haha I would if I could.
Where is this? Whitley bay?
South Shields.
No fish left in Ireland from shore like this :-(
Thats a shame they are fantastic fish to catch.
@@fishingintheukgarywood True, a wonderful catch, well done.
What’s the mark called
It's the leas south shields.
and what kind of spoon? can I have a title or a link?
Its a razorclaw silver minnow 60g i don't have a link for them sorry.
@@fishingintheukgarywood Ok, thank you.
@@ashwaite8661 thank you.
It's only since Rick Stein and the demise of white fish like Cod Haddock whiting are people eating Pollock. I Respect pollock more as a sports fish than how it tastes which is pretty awful.
