Uncle Nigel, Merry Christmas and God bless you from my heart. Thank you for your content and hopefully many years are coming. Bless your family as well, you have given me a lot of pleasure time and inspiration over the years.
Yes, the holding power of copper makes it a good choice for creating front markers, it's more expensive, but the results make up for the price.......lol!!!!
Looks awesome Nigel! Glad to see this upload I just did a initial styling of my blue spruce and I was worried I should have waited to spring. One question though after hard cut backs should you put back in full sun or give a week in a shaded area?
Is this one of the trees that guy bought to you wrapped up in a suitcase ? If I’m pretty sure that was the first time I really entered The Bonsai Zone and my wife got me tools for my birthday. I think I may have subbed back then too - my memory isn’t what it used to be I’m afraid. I still basically keep trees in pots but have a few bonsai now and this summer my binko biloba is starting to look like a bonsai instead of a stick in a pot
it started as quite a wild & ugly tree, but now with some skillful trimming it has a life as a Bonsai.. have you ever tried grafting on trunks where no branches form Nigel ?🌴. regards from England
What is your thinking about leaving all of those super skinny twigs? I was itching for you to clean them all up entirely and was surprised when you didn’t.
When you count the year ring you have to consider that it is the age since the tree reached that height. Meaning you don’t know how many years it took to reach that specific height. Plus, the last ring you counted was probably the 2018 ring, so you’d have to add 7 years. With all that in consideration the tree might be 30 yo or more.
Never seen such aan ugly tree in real life, unless it was hit by lightning. A bit like your hair. It hurt me what you did to that poor Fir. This has nothing to do with bonsai… I’m sorry.
I love playing “this is what I’d do…” and then seeing how wrong I am in the end.
This is a very challenging tree. I am watching the Master in his thought process of styling this ol' timer.

“You can use aluminum wire too” KILLED me. 😂 Nice. 👍
Thanks Hans, I'm glad you got my weird sense of humor!!
A nice transformation from all this meticulous pruning.
Big improvements today! Definitely keep us updated!
Nice job nigel keep up the good work my friend thanks
Good work, looking much better
Looks good nigel 👊👊
Good choice Nigel, on using copper instead of aluminum to mark the front. It'll hold much better as a marker!😉

Cool tree now. I also use the wire i get for other things than putting it on my trees! I have a couple wired trees and they are my least favourites.

Definitely in a shady area, the newly exposed needles can get sun burned easily and could kill off the branch!!
Yeah...

I have a bunch growing around me. They tend to weep. I want to send you pictures how can I do so?
Joan loves to be with you on camera.

You are right, it could be much older than I initially thought!
Je croyais qu il fallait attendre fevrier pour tailler ?
