Dominica: The Caribbean's Most Boring Country
"Don't get me started on the French"
proceeds to rant about the French
I don’t think you know what to do in Dominica 🇩🇲 I just came back from there and had the best time. Did you go to the Jazz and Creole festival a couple of days ago?
Also, Dominica 🇩🇲 is so laid back. You gotta be less uptight to enjoy your time there.
He needs to watch Davidsbeenhere videos on Dominica. That dude is a cheapskate. Why didn’t he rent a car. Too cheap I guess?
Thank you !! 🤣 because I don’t know what this man was talking about we just had the jazz and creole festival ! There is plenty things to do in Dominica he needs to loosen up a lil bit
Exactly! He doesn’t have peace within himself so a tranquil island like Dominica 🇩🇲 brought out the white devil in him! B.a.n bro he doesn’t have peace within himself so Dominica mad him angry. He enjoyed all the war places he is a warlike troubled person
He s a spoilt American, what do you expect?
Love yall it's a shame what his trying to do our beautiful country and it hurts my heart because dominica is so beautiful has good food natural medicine
Thank you for your honest opinion about Dominica. Everything you hate about it sounds absolutely wonderful to me. I will be going.
And we have the carnival and world creole music festival so we have events for party people too
@@whowantsmoke6255 thanks
I am Dominican and it's not your vibe. We are calm and relaxed, we are the nature island and if you cannot sit and enjoy watching the rain fall, I guess go back to where you feel busy and stimulated
Like how you can hate the rain he really down bad
@@whowantsmoke6255am from New York and my dad live in Dominica ain’t no way he hateing and my from here
You seem like you went to a country before doing your research. Dominica is an ecotourism destination if you’re not into nature & adventure I’m not sure why you even went there.
Tell him come support world creole music festival after he make money by bringing us down
I'm from Dominica, and we have very friendly people, I gues you were unlucky finding them
You went to a country you clearly didn't like and then proceed half the video about tourists that aren't American...
And you wonder why people think Americans are stuck up...
You cant compare the Caribbean to Asia! I am Swiss and lived 7 years in Dominica (after travelling the word, including Asia). Dominica has the most welcoming and friendly and honest people I've met. The government has ruined the economy and people are struggling, those who could leave have left.
Most tourists label Dominican people as the most friendly. So i feel like maybe you didnt meet with the right people. Sounds like you didnt even plan this trip. Otherwise you'd have lots to do and would have met great people to guide you.
It can't be dominica he went everywhere dominica is love
One of the best things about your podcasts is that you don't filter it and it's interesting to hear someone else 's experience that may not be politically correct but still valid
same it's always refreshing to hear people honestly talk their actual mind and undiluted feelings instead of farming social credit points and virtue signal
His lieing come and see i promise its grate world creole music festival is good carnival just check events before coming dominica is party and nature I promise on my life
@@whowantsmoke6255Dude you’re so cringe. You act like those festivals are going on all 365 days of any given year. You took his words way too personally and now you feel attacked by him. Why? He doesn’t care what you think and nor should he. Stop whining as you’re doing more harm to your country than good.
As Dominican I will say you should have gotten a guide. The people are a mixed pot. Alot of different niches, and interests. People that would more likely entertain you in the way you were seeking are those into directly gaining from the tourism niche. I'd say for myself, if I saw you on the road, I'd pass you straight and if we locked eyes, I would be cordial. You're another tourist to me who is a here today, gone tomorrow. I'm not interested in being your entertainment. I will help you if you ask, but I won't be jumping up and down for a stranger.
I'd suggest for a more lively experience, come during the main festival seasons, not during open school seasons. Best of luck to you and yours.
I'm not at all Dominican. Just another American. But I got that same vibe. Connor's description just sounds like people living their day-to-day life in a non-touristy area. Same results could be expected if a foreigner were to travel to Idaho looking for fun on a work-week. With an exception for rarely traveled areas where a foreigner might seem exciting and exotic, typically you're getting attention from the locals more in touristy areas simply because they want something from you. It's their livelihood. At the same time, to Connor, if you happen to read this, keep doing you. Walking on eggshells or finding the right diplomatic approach to saying what's on your mind just kills the energy of anything. Unnecessary unless you're a diplomat or official deciding pivotal world affairs.
Hey do you think we should unite and become one country ?🇲🇶🇬🇵🇩🇲 is Guadeloupean and Martinican and want independence for us
@@OnaOmaOlaThe difference is that America is a melting pot of different races and cultures. Were used to it here. When you go to a country that isn’t, you expect some surprise and excitement from the locals
You're comparing Viet Nam a country with a population of 100M and Myanmar, 50M with a small island with a population of 70k.
That's the size of a small town, of course it's going to be boring.
You should go to Lebanon, it has all the upsides of the third world without much of the downside.
People are just trying to live their lives. They wake up in the morning and have shit to do, like anywhere else. And tourists are less of a novelty there than other places you've visited.
I don’t think you have the right mind set. Small island, poverty has raised. In other for you to enjoy Dominica you need to team up with a local. Or simply be yourself! Stop looking for grand! It’s all about nature! Times have changed. Check out the people on the west coast you may have better luck if you’re looking for someone to care a bit more.. Stop looking for the bad, and embrace the good. They’re simply going through hard times. I know that shouldn’t give them a reason to be mean.. but be aware of the economic change. I apologize on the behalf of my people then again, I’m not sure I should. The same way you’re speaking about the man asking for a wine menu, in a tropical island. Is the same way. You should consider the fact that, you’re in an undeveloped country economically asking for the best of the best.
You’re an American in a Caribbean island looking for people to treat you like you’re bigger and better. My people simply smell the bullshit. Energy never lies. Overall please humble yourself! You’re not being realistic! All the best to you.
Ps: you chose to show all the bad. Instead of showing the great experiences you’ve had. There’s homeless people everywhere especially in the USA. HUMBLE YOURSELF!!!!!!
Yes wi!
Next time get a damn rental tf 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Plain and simple. Lol
He too peesh
He doesn't have money for rental or hire a taxi man he make money on us don't spent any and disrespect and destroy our country reputation our ancestors rolling in there grave
Should you be filming? Yes! The rain added so much for me. It was so nice. Like a rainy day at home, listening to your favorite podcasts. The logo overlay is fine, but I really gotta say that just a little bit of nature, clips of you and your travels, or you just sitting there talking, is so much better imo. I feel like it helps the audience connect more.
I actually feel like I connect more while he’s out interacting with the world. It’s like I’m learning with him. Either way, love that there are different perspectives watching his channel. ❤
I like a combination of both. This video was honestly so calming because of the scenery and quiet rain sounds. His other videos where's he out and about are immersive, especially when he's having wild experiences with people (...like in myanmar)
Dominica is the best place for tourists who loves nature and carnival you can rent a scooter if don't want to rent a vehicle to go around the food is good and you will be rewarded if you have good social skills you should be able to spend a month and more on a 2000 us dollar budget
A Dominican woman or man maybe break his heart😅

I think yiu just have very high expectations. Typical American thinking
Bro read the name of the channel haha
His expectations aren’t “very high”, he mostly just wants people to be welcoming and thoughtful. For the most part, he did not experience that. Did you not listen to what he said?

@@whowantsmoke6255you’re replying to every critical comment with broken English ebonics
Bro...what?? This was definitely YOUR unique experience. I can tell that you're a 'people person' and Dominica is not the place you come to interact with people for fun. Dominicans aren't as social as other countries... You're not a nature enthsiast by any means, and it shows. Dominica is UNTOUCHED nature. A place you travel to for meditation and the purest kind of fun. The perfect getaway for relaxation and cultural and natural immersion. You could never be bored in Dominica if you came for what its known for. And I can tell that you came for a reason, but it wasn't to get the "Dominican experience" for sure. You cannot hate Burgers and then eat at Burger King, expecting to eat Pizza.
Yeah, pristine nature over there, like Randoms robbing you in the street or trying to constantly scam you
Thank you for conversing in a normal voice like you would talk to a friend....that more than anything is what I like about your podcast.
A lot of travel podcasts are just overly positive to the point that it sounds fake to me, and they never show anything negative in their experience.
I love the raw, uncut, humanity you bring to the table.
Thanks man, keep it up!
This is your personal experience based on your expectations. Others have gone there and had a more positive experience.
Wow, is that true?
Lol look it up lol 😂😂@@stianh6164
A month is a lot for almost any of the Caribbean islands
Puerto Rico is doable
I second PR. Has this guy talking been there?

You really struck a nerve in the people in these comments 😂
get you a tour guide or a private vehicle to move around. tell me where on earth u wont see a homeless person ?
my father teaches university students in dominica, it is a very laid back country, thank you for visiting
You are just as laid back like the island.
You probably like Americans better because you are one. Generally, people like their own tribe better than others.
i think you got a bad feel when you ran into that guy eric in portsmouth and from there you decided to hate dominica, despite you yourself saying that you had fun here also. why didnt you film it? because you had already made up your mind....
look, people have different taste, but it's not fair for you to turn people against this place because you didnt enjoy it. and i think meeting that guy just upset you about the island. you discouraging peo[ple from coming here because you didnt like it, its not fair.
‘Horses for courses’ comes to mind.
next time you should just do some google searching and make sure the place you commit to for a month is your kind of place imo lol
Bud, I absolutely adore your videos. You keep doing you. I always appreciate your candid brutal honesty. Even if I don't agree with you I appreciate you.
Honestly anything more than 2 weeks is too much for me on any island. You just get to a point where you feel like you explored a lot of the island. A lot of that is dependent on the islands infrastructure and the activities you can do there.. You just get to a point where it's wake up and go to the beach. For me that isnt it.
Lol you clearly are clueless about Dominica
People so buttburt in the comments. It's his opinion. I spent a week in Penang and felt it was very boring. This guys video checks off exactly the boring places I try to avoid. If you disagree that's fine. But he's not wrong, nor alone in his thinking. I'll pass on Dominica for now too.
Appreciate hearing your view about your visit. The mountain town you showed looked beautiful!
The rain adds a nice vibe!
Yes dude the reason I really connected with your videos from the start was that you’re super relatable, and the way your talk about places and cultures is very honest and blunt. It’s really refreshing compared to most UA-camrs!
Also totally agree with the French tourists. They are a nightmare!
And as a pretty well travelled Brit, America is basically the best country for hospitality in general in my experience. Everything is easy and people are excited to do things for you, and strangers love to make conversation.
This guy basically came on here to put down the island, so many places to go and things to experience. You had a whole island to explore. Why would anyone jump into a whole conversation with you at a hi. You'd expect country bookies who get overly excited from seeing a foreigner. Be real.
See the name of his podcast
Sounds like you had some good experiences there, lower your expectations to feel less dissapointed
Just wanted to say, I appreciate you sharing your honest opinion. Not sure why some people are getting heated over the fact that you just said you weren't a fan of Dominica. Everyone has different preferences and there's nothing wrong with not enjoying something. Anyway I really enjoy all of the videos and the podcasts, this channel is honestly a gold mine (and is one of my favorite channels ever) so thanks for making awesome videos!
"When I travel I love America even more." Man I've been living in Europe for over 7 years (originally from California) and I know for a fact that Americans have it much better than they think they do (aside from our ungodly level of violence of course). I love your content dude - pure gold and I support you as much as I can. You're a good human Connor.
The violence is a small price to pay, but also EASILY avoided by not being an a*hole and avoiding/removing one's self from escalating situations
Bro we need you back in Japan. I binged all your vids and they're all great but I really enjoyed the ones in Japan. Ive been fascinated with that country for so long.
I always enjoy your stories and perspectives. Really enjoying the pod.
I love your honesty during your time here in dominica, but you cannot go saying that the country is boring or that the people are not interesting. Not because it hasn't meet your standards, doesn't mean it won't meet other people standards. Dominica is mostly know for its beautiful nature and partying. And based on the hotel you go to is based on your distance and excitement, you can't go to a quiet community and expect excitement.
Not because you did not enjoy your stay doesn't mean you have to ruin it for others.
Besides that idiot haven't been to all islands.
and all this foul language from his mouth shows just the type of person that he is.
if the mustache gets any shorter...my boy needs a parting too XD....lso was there ever a video on your "internship" at that ramen shop in jaoan while you where there?
Had a very different experience than you. I definitely felt like the people who we talked to were eager to talk to us and help us out. I loved my time there.
I like the rain in the background
Appreciate the candid opinion
just an island boy just tryin to make it....
I’m in Sweden and sounds alot like the people here
For the record, Conner, I would be down to watch videos of you just whipping out a camera when you're in an interesting situation. Even if it doesn't have a clear story or context! But then there's the flip side of that though, that sometimes bringing out a camera can "spoil the mood" - people might start to act different and you end up actually missing out on a unique experience because of it.
It is what it is until it is no longer what it was.
You are someone that has been just about everywhere and I respect your opinion. I have been to Asia many times and totally get what you mean. I love the Carribean, but this doesn't look like a place I'd want to go. At all! Give me the Dominican Republic, Belize, Costa Rica, or Puerto Rico any day!
"Don't get me fucking started on the French people."
It's okay man, we know. French tourists in Albania are some of the most precious people I've ever seen. They also assume no one speaks their language and will trash anything and anyone while you're within earshot of them.
Bro we don't worship celebrities you Americans do. We don't worship you just because you in our country. Do you boss. Leave us alone
It’s always enjoyable seeing the commenters lose their mind 😂😂
Real question, why would you stay on one island for a month? I would think 1-2 weeks in each destination around the globe is just fine and would keep things fresh?
He said before he’s inspired by a book called Vagabonding by Rolf Potts which basically talks about traveling by taking 6+ weeks in each place. Obviously, it seems like results may very on small islands
@@Slimypenicillin I have read both those books, and you have to take the info with a grain of salt. Spending 6 weeks on a small island is much different than 6 weeks in lets say Thailand.
@@johnbonamigo5696 yep, I absolutely agree! Maybe he didn’t realize that though going into a small island

Dawg our country name he destroying why he trying to run our tourist and make people miss out on all the beautiful nature why he do take a rental car ask him
22:32 you see what he saying
I like your content and have been watching for a bit now but honestly, using the term "Third World Fatigue" is the most entitled thing I have heard from a person from a country built/and is no longer developing as some of its recourses to build it came from unfair trade from the same Caribbean countries doing their best with the little they have left. On an island, ingredients, supplies and almost most business' inventory are limited to seasons and/or shipping restrictions unlike the US where everything is a truck drive away. I thought being well traveled would have taught you at least that. Be a bit more understanding of the effects on a nation's mentality resulting from their history and present situation. That's what makes a good traveler.
And many of your complaints are also quite common in the US too. As many of these Caribbean Countries are smaller than lots of US cities. So in comparison they are no different, their behavior is just normal human behavior. Look at the Appalachian towns or even Hawaii, they too were used and drained by the bigger cities then forced to make do with what's left and then in turn are criticized for being boring, run down or becoming "Touristy" ..... People gotta eat.
I’m French and yep, sounds like too many French customers sadly. Needy and rude, forcing their culinary expectations around like a cultural statement no one cares about. Kills me just as much as you.
One thing about the French people friendliness though: keep in mind most have shit English, and culturally would rather let themselves look standoffish than be vulnerable trying to make conversation. Generations matter too, older folks are less likely to be interested in any interaction while on vacation.
Thanks for your insights on travel and culture as you continue this exploration w more experience. What’s good w that hitler stache lol? I enjoyed the outdoor vibes. Can’t wait for the next spot
Crazy that these people have no cultural awareness

No different from his ancestors 😂
Lol I'm thinking the same.

You should try Grenada it’s pretty much up and coming and you still get a local feel with beaches on par with the larger islands. Paradise beach was recently rated number 1 and it’s a 10/10
You was looking for a solemate Tony?
It's a tiny island man, do your research, get a rental, stop being cheap.
I think in your own way you have experienced Dominican culture, maybe the people aren't as welcoming or friendly as other places around the world, things are more inconvenient / harder to get too etc. e if you are in the head space of 'creating content' and have a perspective as a UA-camr you could become slightly entitled to people willing to share their culture or become personal friends when you are spending a relatively short time in their country . No means a dig at all but I think that this is bound to happen, cultures are going to be different. It is very rare to truly understand another country's culture without living there. Not an experience you expected doesn't equal a lack of cultural exchange.
Small Brained American.. your name says it all.
As a Dominican, I relate to your experience a wee bit. The zeitgeist of Dominica id changing. We cling to a reputation built by those before us while we unwittingly move away from it. Dominicans are less bubbly and outgoing than before. I think we too are fatigued.
the whole menu thing had me cryin
I flew there for two weeks specifically to scuba. Other than that,I found the island surprisingly expensive for what was offered. Poor roads and a lack of decent food and hotels. Little else to do outside of hiking and ecotourism. But that’s why it’s known as the “Nature Island”,right ?
Boy stop lie u coming to my country Dominica and said this
Sounds like a laid back Carribbean country with no tourism industry.
Also, colonisers are gonna colonise. The French expect the world to revere them. Similar to how the English expect everyone to speak English and eat chips
sounds like my kind of people
yeah. I'm from Dominica and i''ve lived in America, and boy are you correct about Americans. They talk to anyone for any length of time about anything. I love Americans for that. Very outgoing.
Your comment about Dominica is short sighted and ridiculous.
Honestly, I just don't think he is an island kind of person. Island life almost always seems to be slower, with less going on. This can be "boring" for some people.
Somebody is butt hurt over someone else’s opinion. Get bent.
Too much venting about the French for me...
You need to visit one of Dominicas Rasta camp might get a good experience there
Bro! You should do your original plan , and cone to Honduras. Take a trip to bay islands. Roatan and Utila. Super cool, super safe. Beautiful.
Love your honesty. It can be confronting because people are used to fake shit. 😂
Yet you complained that people in Pakistan were too excited to be around you. So what is it? Not all brown and black people and salivating to be in your presence. You recognize Dominica is called “ the nature island of the Caribbean” but are surprised that everything is nature based? It seems like you were here during Jazz , there was a plethora of events to go to. The first Monday in May is the biggest beach day on the island.
Yh thanks for passing but don't come back wonder if u even spent money on the island an y on earth should u be be excited to see you Jesus
If you wanna know about their country go to the fucking museum🙄.
Please visit the pacific islands (Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji) in the future
You should really come and visit Quebec , Canada ! The French Canadians are extremely fun and nice !
Ah man. I'm a New Yorker long lived in Paris, France. And I can tell you, you're just about perfectly spot on. The French, generally, are very judgmental, and small minded, overly concerned with the perfection of their surroundings, such as the quality of their baguette. And while you can make friends, it takes a lifetime. For the most part, they don't seem to take an interest in you, for after all, you're in France, and it's the capital of the civilized world, . . . they believe. . . . Well, that's in general. There are always fine exceptions, and especially second generation French people from Africa and other parts of the world.
Thanks for being honest about your opinion! Honestly ignore all of the haters, there's nothing wrong with having an opinion even if it's a negative one. Anyway, love the videos you're making man and I'm looking forward to what's to come in the future!
Oh and keep being yourself, I really appreciate that you're authentic and don't just hide behind some fake youtuber persona

You're exactly where you're supposed to be
I can't speak for French-French, but for somebody who lives in French Canada, the French people generally are cold to anybody who isn't French, or who can't speak French at a nearly native level (I grew up speaking both). Even if they also speak English at a high level they won't for the most part. I understand that the French-English relations are historically tense, but I don't think you will ever have a good interaction until you learn to speak it nearly as well as you can speak English.
