My mother's hair is straight wavy. My mother used to cover her hair a lot until one day I saw her real hair, it was loose and wavy which was a shocker to me because I have thick course 4C hair (often called negro hair) and have never seen hair like hers on a "black" person's head it looks like hair that I usually saw on the Natives. So I asked about our history/bloodline. Then, I talked to family that still lives on the island. Heck, look at our flag. "The stars represent ten communes of the island (10 tribes), yellow refers to the indigenous people and commodities typical of the island - bananas and citruses. Black stripe refers to the color of local residents and volcanic activity of the island, whereas white color traditionally stands for peace and crystal clear waters of the local rivers." Dominica is the only island with a relatively large and distinctive group of Carib Indians, descendants of the people who inhabited the island before European colonization.
