Another great player who also won multiple tournaments in the Yugioh TCG

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after the Painful Truths G3, McDuffie had 8 cards and didn't discard a card at clean-up.

does anyone know what the deck box the mcduffie is using???

hmm... Mcduffy missed lethal a turn earlier. He had mana to play both Bushwacker and become immense and the extra 8 damage was more than enough.

Christopher might have won that game where he went triple Banes but he would have won that game if it was any 7 mana creature let's be honest here.
Birthing Hulk seems much better than Bane of Bala Ged in the Atarka Red matchup because it can be regenerated and it creates 2 scions that can chump block which buys the ramp deck precious time to get to Ulamog or Ugin.

+Vulcan Hades I don't think the Banes are there specifically for this matchup, but he brought them in because he needed some additional threats to ramp into that cost less than Ugin and Ulamog. I don't recall how many Worldbreakers he had, but he probably needed the extra bodies and may have even sided out some of the Ulamogs; possibly even Kozilek, if he even had access to that card. You're right about Birthing Hulk, however. If this was the gameplan against Atarka Red, he would probably elect for those over Bane of Bala Ged.
I think he had them for any sort of mirror match, since they are almost always going to live and can break the game open with even one attack.

That's a good point, yeah Bane of Bala Ged is basically Ulamog in the mirror match except it comes down earlier.

I still don't get why a ramp deck would entirely cut red though. It doesn't even make sense to me. The strength of RG eldrazi is that it doesn't rely on creatures to ramp but in the mono green version you have a bunch of mana dorks that just die to wild slash or whatever. I don't see the upside. Personally I'd much rather have access to Kozilek's Return and Dragonlord Atarka post-board or even main.

Yeah, I agree with you. When the colors are so free anyway, it seems like throwing away all of your options when the deck construction opportunity cost is so low.

I hate when aggro does good in Magic

I've gotta admit, Patrick and Cedric usually crack me up, and I know this was Patrick's last official broadcast as a member of the team, so the mood was probably a bit lighter and looser than usual, but to me, they started getting a bit obnoxious during that game 2 commentary. We get it, Bane of Bala Ged is no Jace, Vryn's Wallet-Emptier - but towards the end of that game, the 'jokes' became a little mean-spirited, and in my eyes, a bit elitist. If players never tried new and different things, then Magic wouldn't be what it is today. Stop making fun of players for playing sub-optimal cards. Sometimes there are strategic, synergistic or even, god forbid, FLAVOR reasons why players choose certain cards. Just commentate on what's happening and the strategy of the cards being played. Leave the snarky critique of card quality to the Constructed set reviews.
    Maybe that's just me, though.

+TheDemko I think you're overreacting a bit in my opinion. While they were having a bit of fun talking about a card that was unlikely to show up in constructed, let alone 3rd in a tournament, it seemed to me to be in good fun and quite honestly it IS hilarious when limited-type cards put a stop to a constructed strategy. It was awesome and I feel like they thought it was, too.

+RagnarokDA Like I said, I really like these guys as commentators, and I think you're right, that their intentions were good. I was laughing the entire time they were doing the whole "It's coming!" bit... I just felt like at the end, there, the fun turned a tiny bit salty. I don't think anyone was being outright cruel or anything. It just felt like they went from talking about the quality of a card you don't normally see in Standard, to talking about the quality of a player who would put a card like that in their deck to begin with.
I actually went back and listened again, and I realized what a mistake I'd made. If you listen at around 38:30, it sounds like one of them says "Who cares about this match?" - I took that comment WAY out of context, as they were announcing that Goblins had won the Legacy Classic. I has presumed they had just given up on commentating this game, because they couldn't take Brickey's deck seriously. I now realize that wasn't the case at all. So Cendric/Patrick (if you even bother reading these comments, lol)... gentlemen, I sincerely apologize. I completely misjudged the situation and intent of your comments.
