Hope you enjoy the deep dive! There's a slight edit at 2:26 because of a copyright issue with the music video for The Zone, all I said there was that the song was a direct message to the audience about The Weeknd's intentions to become a mainstream artist, but, otherwise, the rest of the video's intact. Let me know what you think, what your favourite Weeknd album is, and what you'd like to see next.
For me my favorite album is his starboy album. As for what I would like to see next is anything related to Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley ,Glass Animals, NASCAR and or John Wayne yet truth is you could make a video about paint drying and I'm sure it would be good fun like your first three videos once again tyvm for what you do love from Milwaukee WI USA
it is always fun looking in to the tin foil hat claims as it can add a different spin to any story..... I watched a video around 4 years ago that claimed that The Weeknd is Justin Bieber in makeup. That would make him the master of reinvention I guess ☺
Musically, yes. Video wise, pretty solid tbh. This is coming from someone who doesn't like The Weeknd at all. If you don't think he's mid musically, it's your life, your opinion, good for you.
He doesn’t die he just gets heavily injured from the accident, which ties it into after hours cause he ends a song saying something about seeing bright lights after crashes his car which is an ambulance
Great video! One critique I have that most people always get wrong. It’s not “bad plastic surgery”, it’s actually the effect of continuous plastic surgery over long periods of time. Which I believe is another analogy to the endless quest for ultimate vanity in not only Hollywood but western culture as a whole .
I think it’s obvious that Abel always wanted to kill off this character. I’m guessing he figured that at some point in his life, he will move on from this persona that reflected a darker version of his experiences in early adulthood. But now that he’s basically made it, he’s fine with letting the character rest easy. Whether The Weeknd receives a good or bad Ending in the afterlife is something we”ll have to see.
17:00 he shot himself and started smiling might suggest he's been trying to kill him after his performance many times but every time it fails, which explains him smiling after pulling the trigger and confetti coming out of the pistol instead of bullet that means he can't escape from his fate
this video is absolutely incredible. Even as a die-hard The Weeknd fan there was plenty of new information for me. I try to get my friends in touch with Abel and his music before the new Album comes out and I`ll definetely show them this video! Such a great summary of his discography and the story behind it. Awesome work mate!
This video is so well made and your explanation is amazing. I’m a massive fan of the weeknd so watching these videos never offers me anything I don’t know, but your perspective and passion is so intriguing, I love it !
This is the best explanation I’ve seen so far you nailed it👌🏾. Thought he tells his story in a very artistic and captivating way. He still a prisoner of his choices, trapped in a cycle he can’t escape. I like how you didn’t chop it up to fan theory’s nor sugar coat it. Yes it beautiful to witness , but you can tell his soul is hurting regardless
I never comment on videos, but you really deserve more. The work is incredible, the story telling, voice over, editing. Everything is top notch. Can't wait for the new album
Who is the narrator of this video? I had followed a few of The Weeknd reviewers who gave interesting and meaningful interpretations of the music itself based on their musical profession and some of the analogy of his journey. I had learnt from each of them. So far, the narrator of this video nailed it uniquely and found the closest true interpretation of the recent rebirth and the end of the Weekend (at least end of The Weekend for now). Yes, that maternal image is from Artist Afework Tekle’s art work. I enjoyed this video, your observation, and knowledgeable analysis. Thank you!
wow amazing video, very well put together with all the references in there. im always excited for new weeknd albums but this is gonna hit different because its his last album as "the weeknd" character. just hoping it wont repeated the same 80s synthwave thing that he's been doing his last 2 albums. i need him to reinvent himself MUSICALLY while keeping the dark r&b and pop nature, kinda like how he blended those in bbtm except he had no vocal reverb back then as he does in the after hours era
This was a really well made video, and i liked how you went into detail with each album or character and some things, even tho I'm a huge fan i had no idea of some of the theories talked about.
Loved the michael Jackson video, then I saw you made a Weeknd for my favorite artist, the artist that got me into music. Keep making videos like these, so captivating
I'm OLDER woman who just discovered Weeknd ( yeah for real ). Dancing in the flames song n official video blew me away! Can't stop listening. Wow I sure have let life slip away in some areas like music. Won't happen again, this artist is AMAZING🔥
8:59 I think the cars being different DOES make a big difference. The one he crashed in with "The Hills" was regular while the one in "Tell Your Friends" was luxury. That makes me think The Hills happened first where he meets the devil to discuss the deal, the devil proves how he can deliver in "Cant Feel My Face", then Weeknd double crosses & kills him in "Tell Your Friends" while driving away in a Bentley with newfound fame...and essentially trying to outrun the devil, explaining his red crucifix weapon in "Starboy". But, devil can't die, and caught up to him in the After Hours album (i.e. cameo in "Heartless").
It has always felt to me that the music videos tell a similar but very much not the same story as the music. For example, Gasoline in the song depicts a still alive weeknd closing in on their death with apathy. Also, After Hours contains notes of remorse over his life that are drowned in Las Vegas' sins that isn't there in the videos. This makes me less interested in the videos but this video has made me intrigued to dive into the next album's videos.
I enjoyed this video so much, this video is gonna blow up soon. Will you be covering this again when “Hurry Up Tomorrow” releases and the Trilogy is finally complete?
Glad you enjoyed it, I’ll definitely look into that, some of you guys are also interested in the film references in The Weeknd’s lyrics & music videos idea too so I might make something covering it all
Now that this video brought this side of him to my attention here's a fun fact he did one of the theme songs for wrestlemania 40 last year yet they really only used the instrumental and turned his vocals way down and when I did a lyric search I see why his vocals were turned down because it's all about embracing a overdose death like what how is that relatable to wrestlemania and some how he made the wrestlemania theme song for the last 5 years in a row now
Thanks, haha it’s funny you say that because I do a lot of corporate editing professionally - and I actually did a whole employee training video series earlier this year - so I think some of that might have bled into this video while I experimented
I had a question, Did weeknd knew he was going to make a story for The Weeknd from Day 1?? like every music videos from initial stages, did Abel knew he was going to make some kind of story??
According to several interviews he’s given, my guess is probably not, he’s said that his albums are born from his current life circumstances and are, to some degree, semi-autobiographical, even if some things are metaphorical or exaggerated. There was a clip from his Kiss Land: Road To Release documentary I included where he states that these stories and the characters in them are loosely based on people he knows, relationships and so on. This final trilogy, though, I think was planned well in advance story-wise
The Daft Punk part is really good in this video, it gives a lot of memories about those two Funny robots, let's all wish that we will keep them in our hearts and remember their very cool sketchy electronic music.
He's forever tatted on me. WICKED GAMES on my lower side. He's phenomenal. ❤seen him in Orlando here in Florida. He is never insecure about his appearance. Those who've been w Abel since Trilogy know.
Hope you enjoy the deep dive!

All his music videos in order can be a mini series. I’d love to watch that.
