A problem I've had with this rollout is the fact that we've heard so much from the album already (around 10 or 11 songs), including the singles. And unless the album is going to be super long, we've heard maybe most of the album already instead of leaving it to the release. In comparison with Dawn FM, we only heard Take my breath before release, and with After Hours, we heard Heartless, Blinding Lights, After Hours and Scared to live (on snl).
Super valid take. It's a part of what makes the Sao Paulo performance so confusing to me...on one hand, I got all the chills from hearing these amazing records on such a beautiful moment, yet I feel like I ate half the meal before dinner knowing I got 8 more courses coming. Or like I saw a trailer that showed most of the movie.
I'm still thinking that this album could be split into 2 parts kind of like Justin Timberlake's 20/20 experience or he does the deluxe thing that has enough tracks it could end up being an entire album in itself
The deluxe thing is likely but not too sure about splitting the album into two parts as that would complicate the idea of it being a “trilogy”. I know you & I would get it, but it just wouldn’t be as clean having 4 different album covers to signify a “trilogy”. Would be cool tho!
@PiosPlace yh, you would kinda expect the album to be around 15 tracks, but if it's gonna be super long, like a 30-track album that could be really interesting. And that could be possible considering The Weeknd is doing that show at the Rose Bowl stadium and it would be slightly underwhelming if he's going out of his way to do a stadium release show if the album is only an hour long. But now knowing the release date, we don't have long to wait.
After hours has something that you can’t always account for with just the music which is the climate/time and place. Like you said with the pandemic, it was like a magnifying glass for him since no one was doing anything at the time and everyone was cooped up. It was the fringe event that led to him getting into the goat conversation.
@@Thee_Sandwichh101 definitely. makes me think of wrestling and how, regardless of how captivating the scripted plot points are, that tiny ounce of realness that gets injected is always going to be the x-factor in whether something gets taken to that next level.

"Nothing is ever random" but this time it feels random. The São Paulo show, although one of his best live performances as you said, feels random in terms of timing. Why schedule a One Night Only concert - with a whole new new stage design (you know how I feel about it), new songs, new outfit, only to do it again in Australia with the old tour setlist (kinda)? It's confusing? Same thing with the Open Hearts mv, being behind a huge hugeee paywall makes it feel super super capitalistic. I could go on and on but lemme stop. Still I have so much faith in Abel 🫶🏽 I know he's going to do justice and give The Weeknd character a great sendoff. 10000% agree :) always amazing to hear from you! I definitely believe in Abel - the man hasn't let me down for the 10 years I've been a fan (ok...maybe once, but I'll pin the blame on Tedros Tedros lol). I just know when that trailer for the film drops, all will be forgiven. And I hadn't really kept up with the Australia performances, was it really the AH Till Dawn tour setlist?
@@PiosPlace Yes it was indeed the AH Till Dawn tour setlist! Soooo confusing? Ps: Love love the Eletric Dusk poster. Leon Thomas is MY guy, I'm obsessseeeed 💛
Huh…interesting. Part of me wants to not think too much into it but it is fascinating that he’d regress back to the old setlist, with a few of the HUT songs. Makes me wonder why he’s so intent on performing so much - maybe because he knows this will be the last time he performs in these locations as The Weeknd, but also because he won’t be performing in these places for a considerable amount of time? I think July was way too soon and the facts that he dropped the video for Open Hearts (in my opinion the best single) on Apple Vision Pro AND WE CANT EVEN LISTEN TO ON ANY PLATFORM…but hey what do I know I’m just a fan.
@@kitchenboy4221 the timing of that São Paulo performance highkey eats me up at night - like why did he do it that soon? Same with Open Hearts not being officially released :/ But I’ll be willing to forgive it come January when the HUT film trailer drops🤞🤞
Exactly his KOTF for a reason. January is odd. I have a feeling something went horribly wrong with apple or the film which delayed the album ultimately. The hype has died, but I know the album will be worth it.
you’re definitely onto something re: a major delay, especially considering it’s coming with a film. I feel like they’re taking their sweet time on it for a reason. And the music truly has not disappointed at all so the album will surely be worth the wait!
It seems a lot of people are fond of a double album. It seems to me that the only way for that to work would be 2 different endings. One where the cycle of pain continues, and one where it is ended. I think this is plausible, as Timeless and Sao Paulo have such a different vibe from Dancing In The Flames. As to if I want a double album, Id say I wouldnt mind. I think that it might make for a rough listening experience, but if done well it could be great. We shall see in a little over a month when Hurry Up Tomorrow releases (unless its delayed like a couple other certain artists keep doing).
Correct. It’s not a bad rollout because he’s making us wait. After all, that is the entire premise of the album judging from the title. Plus I love the anticipation, especially considering this is the final Weeknd album. Nor am I saying is it a “bad rollout”, as others may boldly proclaim; however, it is a flawed rollout because it’s felt a little muddled since the release of Dancing in the Flames. I’m sure we’ll be singing a different tune once we hit January but, up until the album title was announced, the momentum was kinda dead in the water. Also I don’t think Abel would ever base an album drop date on what awards he could win.
@ You can blame him but yes the label would control something in this matter when a November/December drop would be pointless. I went to the São Paulo show expecting that to the be the release….crazy to think that was in September. I would not be surprised if Timeless, Take me back to LA and São Paulo don’t make it on the album
It feels like there was something that happened that delayed the roll out… aside from me thinking that Abel wants us to literally feel the desperation of Hurry Up Tomorrow. There had to be some delay of some sort maybe related to the movie. But regardless, no matter when Abel decides to step on the gas, the hype will be right back where it started. There are a lot of new XOs that this might be their first or second roll out and they’re the vocal minority in the criticism. But we trust Abel. Thanks for this video Pio and HURRY TF UP TOMORROW!!!!!
I’d definitely say it’s the weakest roll out, the music videos and the songs themselves just don’t seem to have as big of impact as the past two albums.
my problem with this rollout is for Abel usually being so thoughtful on the branding and theme, it just seems like he didnt put as much effort into the theme as he did with after hours or dawn fm. Like it's honestly pointless when it comes to the acc music but him re-using the red theme was disappointing especially because the orange it seemed to be when it was leading up was way better. I could honestly write a whole legit essay on why hurry up tomorrows rollout kinda disappointed me but im still excited for this album as abel is my fav artist
Orange would’ve been a great color - the promo pics leading up to São Paulo performance using orange made it feel so grand. And if you’re ever feeling bored, feel free to leave that essay (or even the sparknotes to it) in the comments. Would love to read it!
It was good at first and then it started to kill the vibe. I get it that we must wait for tomorrow and we must feel like it should Hurry Up. We are the character and it will make the roll out engaging. But, maybe it can be a mistake, especially when people' s interest dies. Mine did because I was like too much wait. The long pauses killed my interest. So, yeah, I am not soo excited. Hopefully, he is doing something in December and Early January. I want to cheer for him. But the long breaks makes it hard for me to cheer for him. Especially, when great albums like GNX and Chromakopia dropped with great roll outs. So, I feel disappointed because it is weak in comparison to other great roll outs this year. I still hope that he fixes it. Hoping too see something soon. That's it.
I’d argue having “squabble up” open the “Not Like Us” music video and that Harper’s Bazaar interview with SZA could technically count as rolling out GNX, but I get what you mean.
It just really messes with me that this rollout hasn't been one befitting of an album of this magnitude. Like, seriously. This is THE last album of Abel's under the Weeknd moniker. You would think it'd be built as a farewell of sorts, and it's not. It's very disappointing.

@PiosPlace Music artists usually go to South America when they can't be big anywhere else. Those south american will stan anything that's been on TV.
