    I don't have any connectivity in my vehicle. I prefer it that way. I drive in silence too. You should try it, it makes you far more of an attentive driver.

      I like the radio on, I’m currently editing an autopilot review video and I had to film it with the radio off…felt so weird to me after many years of always having it on 😬

    I never continued with premium connectivity. The google traffic visualisation was probably the most useful aspect of it, but fundamentally it doesn't offer anything that google maps on your phone offers already.
    At the end of the day I bought a Tesla because "it's a great car, with great running costs". I want to do "car things" with it. Premium connectivity doesn't fit into that ethos.
    Now, if instead of the car connecting to your phone hotspot, the car itself could become a wifi hotspot, then the value proposition of premium connectivity changes completely. Because then you could potentially ditch your home broadband subscription completely, given that Tesla has an unlimited data connectivity. Sadly the car doesn't work like that, so fundamentally the premium connection option isn't worth it.
    With most purchases comes the question: "where's the value proposition?" Does it help me survive, save me money, make me money, help me become happier, satiate my curiousity etc.....

      I’ve not turned it back on for exactly that, if I want to see where the traffic is I just turn on Waze. And with a good data package on my phone it really doesn’t bother me either

    They way I view it is as a percentage of the cost of the car. If this was a much cheaper car £10 a month would be more significant.
    If you're paying £400 to £600 a month for the car, £10 is nothing really and worth paying to avoid having to open different apps, hotspoting etc.

    For a 50k car to not allow basic mapping features with a hotspot is really not good enough

    Wouldnt Waze (or Tesla with connectivity) route round a bad jam? So it wont do that without premium connectivty? Thats not good.

    • @thercsev
      @thercsev  Рік тому

      It will route round bad congestion without premium connectivity, however, it will not show you on the map where the congestion is using coloured roads like Waze does

      @@thercsev I think Id be paying for it given theres no apple car play. EIther that or check on my phone theres no hold ups and if there were have my phone mounted so i could see it using an app on the phone but thats very shonky for a £40k+ car.

    I dont really think its particularly cheeky from Tesla. £10 a month doesnt seem unreasonable given that an unlimited data package for a phone costs more than that plus Tesla has to pay Google a fee for thr satellite maps data and traffic visualisation - im sure there is a healthy profit margin in the £10 but given that these days the Tesla's as so kuch cheaper than competitor vehicles, i wont hold that against them given that the hotspot option is viable for those who prefer not to pay. (Looking at a refreshed model 3 long range when it vomes to the UK, £39,990 seems like a steal, although i insurance costs seem mad)

    • @thercsev
      @thercsev  Рік тому +1

      True, but I’m sure Tesla can negotiate a cheaper tariff for its data…plus it would be Tesla selling the traffic data to google collected from its cars.
      Insurance is pretty high on them and I’m planning to do a video on that soon

    • @TrickyTree84

      What is cheeky, if I hotspot then I use no data, but I can't have basic features other cars have. Just let me use google maps

    • @BH-tp3pm

      Considering Tesla have Starlink, and you’ve just dropped 50k odd for a car, it should absolutely be a free service.
      Furthermore - literally ALL other new cars have android auto or Apple car play to use phone features on the car. Tesla have not used this. Forcing us to this type of service.

    I'm not sure if it's cheeky to ask for the money. I can't believe it's so much more expensive in the UK. In the US as far as I know it's $99 per year. I believe Elon wants to put a financial disincentive for every service his company provides that has an ongoing cost to the company. Over time he will likely try to pull more and more things that we can safely think of as externalized costs into included costs or whatever so we don't do moral hazard type economic damage to his company. I believe it's actually a pretty wise strategy. To me the more valid line of complaint is if you believe the quality of one of his cars is not up to the standard you expect for the amount you have paid for it. The issue with this is that this line of thought may lead to him eventually charging excessively for ongoing service, and may eventually set up an incentive structure like at the other big OEMs, where they are incentivized to have parts in their cars that will break, providing a revenue stream for their repair facilities, which is essentially a form of planned obsolescence... which I truly hate.
    I like that you pointed out the actual amount you had to earn in order to get 400 pounds of cash. I believe very few people realize this, very nice point.

    • @thercsev

      It’s a bit frustrating when it used to be included in the older generation. It’s the subscription life we live now, allowing big corporations with multi billion dollar turnover to keep digging away at our pay checks to appease shareholders….i mean deliver better quality of course 🤨

      @@thercsev yeah i am paying lots of money to google and affiliates now and all their services used to be free to me. I pay more to google than i do for my other bills, and it seems like twice a year they send me a brand new bill for something i used to get for free.

    In the US it's 99$ a year. not a lot a yeah cheaper than Netflix a month. What those cheeky mean in for you lol when you say a little cheeky. hope I'm spelling it ok. Me living in California I do need the live traffic as it as walls changes day by day. I do have it my wife will use the browser when we are driving. Maybe the hotspot is a better option but if you can afford it why not. $10 dollars won't break your pocket. Starbucks will lol

    • @thercsev

      I have said it’s a bit cheeky based on I have 3 maps on my phone; Google, Apple & Wave. All of which give traffic updates free of charge. All of my previous cars had live traffic included.
      I guess when it’s the most expensive car I’ve had it’s cheeky that I have to continue to pay more ongoing
