The voice you bring to a performance is often dictated by the style of music you're performing. Your vocal technique makes all the difference in achieving your stylistic goals. In this video, Jeannie Gagné demonstrates some best practices for when to sing legato or staccato, and when to use (or not use) vibrato.

Haha, that was fantastic. Her whole vibe is kind of "meh, whatever bro", but she's very good at explaining. I think it would be fun to take one of her classes.
Agreed and she doesn't need to change !
lmao I love it
LOL I was just thinking the EXACT same thing!!! haha
Right?
I love your demonstration, you not only a good coach but an excellent singer as well... God bless you, I'm here to stay on your channel.
Thank you!
2:43 you betta get down with that BOSSA NOVA
Her voice is so beautiful. Why is she not famous?
Builders Craft Junior because she is a vocal coach not a singer
Some people find it more meaningful to give others the means to become great than pursuing greatness themselves.
Well... Why is Vivian Bueno not famous? What a wonderful voice: ua-cam.com/video/Kl8JdQJWTGA/v-deo.html

Lol this is so effortlessly impressive. Honestly unbelievable
it's so good to see voice genie here!
No wonder people who comes from berklee are so damn good..... The teachers are awesome..... Totally awesome...
Thank you! :)
Great lesson. I play guitar and have never sung, but the singers I've worked with hate being told how to do vibrato. I think guitar vibrato is the same as voice. I've noticed as singers get older their vibrato gets wider and more erratic. You get it with rock singers and crooners. Your explanation of holding the note and bringing the vibrato in at the end is perfect. I'll show them this video when I try to explain next time.
her vocal control is SCARY GOOD
Brilliant explanation, thank you.
All 3 things I wanted to know explained at once and with such clarity. Thank you Miss!
wow this was really interesting. i love how you just arent expecting her wide vibrato to sound that good but it really did
She's so talented omg
I used to blame my voice and all it was because I was super flat with no technique w tightness and now I am finding my voice through my identity.
You are the only one that came straight to the point.
I can't believe I wasted so much time trying to learn from others.
She has a great voice..loved every moment🤗
Thank you dear... It's beautiful! You've rejuvenated my energy
You're a very good teacher. I love how you sing what you're teaching, the lyrics to your made up songs are the explanations.
What a wonderful music lesson.
It was interesting, easy to understand, and had great demonstrations.
It makes me think that she must be a great class or one on one instructor and makes me feel a bit envious of the people talented enough to hire her skills.
I absolutely loved this video
Wow, how informative. I love that you go to the point of the matter, and demonstrate specific techniques.
Thanks a whole lot.
This was so much funn!!!
This is fantastic!
Great lesson Jeannie, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
She sounds soooooo good.
Just wow!🙏❤️
perfect voice
i haven't touched a singing lesson in years after taking choir in high school, where my choir instructor was talented and experienced but very, very unkind. you have such a wonderful energy about you, it's the first time i've genuinely enjoyed hearing someone talk about singing techniques in a long time. explained very clearly, simply, and with beautiful sounding examples. thank you for this, it helps me remember how much i enjoyed singing.
Thank you!

Thanks for watching!
Happy new year 🥰😍💖
I really liked! she’s amazing teaching and so talented!
I just found and I subscribed to this channel! 🤩
Thanks for subbing!
Your channel is so interesting
ahhhh if my science teacher could sing she would sound like that hahaha really she's awesome
Love from india
I have an issue with too much legato and I really just sound like I’m whining the whole time
Exactly know what your talking about.
Yesssssss
This is so helpful
It just occurred to me how amazing it would be to have a voice like hers and not be obligated to preserve it for recording or touring. You could just bust out some incredible notes on your commute, or while you cook breakfast. It's like being a wild horse in a field instead of a racing horse on a track!
I’m here for school don’t ask me why I don’t know either I’m in science why should I know the difference between legato and staccato BUUTT THIS WAS DAMNN HELPFUL!!
Ur voice is amazing..
HER VOICE IS AMAZING is more correct than awful texting slang
@Peter Wood-Jenkins Let then say what they want to say
@@imadeyoureadthis7823 😂😂
@2:03 Ouu aye 🔥🔥🔥🔥
👏👏👏
I came here because someone described Radiohead's Thom Yorke as using indulgent legato. And now I know what that means.
If you’re interested in a lot of good sounding really skilled vibrato, middle eastern music is based on it. Reply if you want some beautiful sounding recommendations. I’m here investigating why we use it so much and why you don’t.
that pop song burn! lol
Your beauty surpasses Lina Cavalieri.
Pretty lady who knows a lot and has very good lungs!!!
Thanks for your strong and wonderful heart. Can we communicate? Oliblish12@gmail.com
Hi Haa nice miss
but good singing voice
was that Natural Vibrato ? Mine is very fast If I relax and hardy push it gets wider but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hard for me any tips ?
"if you have no vibrato, you have tightness in your vocals".
Translation: If you have no vibrato, you just suck.
😅
Very Helpful
Thank You Ma'am
Translation -> I want to see the world in black.
No it can be practiced and gained its a muscle that control air flow is all
well not really, you can always practice to release that tightness in your vocals first and then be able to attempt the vibrato style. it could also refer to a serious case of tightness in vocals which might require medical attention also.
Can you tell what is falsetto, and others like this?
What's the difference between "vibrato" and "tremolo"? Thanks ☺️
So, is verbrato coming from your throat or somewhere in your diaphragm that you just suddenly learn how to use? It's like sometimes I just happen to do it but I can't do it willingly, if that makes sense.
How do you do vibrato
Is she is the one who teach as vocal genie channel ??
Do you have a video on holding a note.I sing lead in Barbershop. We have to hold some very long notes at times as well as singing long phrases.Im ok up to 12,15 seconds but then I run out of breath.
If you are watching this in 2022+, just remember to practice 40 hours a day!
You better sing! Just Whistle in staccato then!
I want to get better at this vocal technique 0:24
What is vibrato
It's gonna be straight, may be short! 🤣
But what is my voice doing when...I don't know how to explain it....the melody moves alot, but it's not in tune...or with the song in any way at all??
VIBRATO IS SO HARD FOR MEEEE.
0:52 i legit wanted to search for the song till she said she's making it up, lol.
Mariah Carey uses so many classical techniques and her singing
Thomas Dickson says Staccato (not Legato), low bass and non-rhythmic music may help sleep!

I can't do vibrato. Help me!
Holy damn she aint care but still loved it.
I think. Vibrato
has to do with genetics. Of course you can learn it but many people are naturally born with it
Taylor Swift has no vibrato. I'm a Swftie for 13 years. I think shes the only singer without no vibrato.
Babes she does, I'm a swiftie
"Legato is a long held note," of course that's not correct. And why not actually define vibrato as a half-step-down relaxation from the main pitch, moving back up, in cycles of roughly 5 per second. Mystifying stuff from yet another great teacher short on specifics, sorry just sayin' .
we get it , you know everything youre an expert on everything
@@michaelm9519 they didn't say that. They were correcting her so people don't get confused and use the wrong thing.
is there any candy in here mouth ? haha ~~~~~cute
She's like singing ain't shit
