  • I've been using them for a few weeks and am not so happy overall. I was expecting something more. Then again, they're really cheap.
    Pros.
    - They're loud
    - Price
    - They stand steadily (due to weight)
    Cons.
    - The bass isn't as deep as I expected
    - They peak easily (way too easily)
    - They're really heavy to handle
    - The bass is a little boomy (it sound's like there's a high peak at around 100hz which is really annoying)
    Overall:
    Really good for the price, but nowhere near perfect.
    Track is Omnia ft. Ira - The Fusion (original mix). No copyright infringement intended.

    I have the VQ1500D. I think that those 2 versions are very similar...when I first hooked it up, it was like there is something wrong... when I took the volume to 11 or 12 o'clock it started to clip. But now, after 2 weeks of "tuning", I am very satisfied with it. I have all the faders on the mixer on 0db, gains are around 11 o'clock, and the mixer db meter never surpass the green loghts. It sound really good, plenty of bass, with the volume on the woofer set to around 2 o'clock.
    I think that you just need to put some time to set the gains and faders correctly and than the sound will be very good.For the price I think is a very very good deal.

    That sound like a good plan to me. Those are supposed to have the same class D technology that the INuke power amplifiers have, and in my opinion the iNuke is a great power amp. So I'm hoping that the powered speakers are just as good if not better.

    yes it is 30 ft by 30 ft and i am only planning to get one and see from there, i don't want to spend a huge amount of money, i just want something to get something that would be "dance club loud" in my small basement, and then for extremely occasional outdoor use at my parent's house for big pool parties, ( i realize it won't really be sufficient for that, but it should get the job done alright), so i went with one 18, couldn't justify spending more for such light use, thanks for your input

    They play well as long as you don't have to crank them up to the top. I'm no professional DJ neither but I'm working on it :)
    Anyway, yes, you can really feel them (are the dimensions ft.? If so these subs will do fine) but you need to have an EQ to get a smooth sound out of them. But as I said they're the best for the price. I used them in a big warehouse (25*15*25m W*H*D) and they were too small for that but at my home I nearly broke my dinner plate set.

    That would undoubtably have made a difference, but imo I'm sure the difference wouldn't have convinced me they're much better than what I heard. Let's put it this way: the new HIFI system I bought sounded good way before I calibrated it. Afterwards it sounded better, but I would have been satisfied with it as it was too.

    Hi.. may I ask if what's the impedance of the woofer driver.

  • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
    @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  11 років тому

    They do seem powerful indeed, never hear one but should probably one day. Shame they're so expensive (well, quality costs). What I'll do is wait for the final specs of the IQ series to come out (including the price) and then make my decision.

  • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
    @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  11 років тому

    I hope the same. I'd gladly pay a little more to get more, but the price of brand speakers scare me away. Once they come out, if they're reasonably priced (as I assume) and have good specs ill defo get a pair to be tested. Both the subs and the fullrange speakers (because I don't like the JBLs I'm currently using..).

    Unfortunately not, these subs only support line level inputs. I don't see much point running a powered signal to these anyway, since you can plug virtually anything from mobilephones to pads and any kinds of mixers to these with adapters, such as 3,5mm stereo -> xlr. or monoplug -> xlr.

    with cement floor, cinder block walls and your standard basement ceiling,
    the cheap pa speakers are good enough for music, actually sound pretty decent in my opinion, but i am a car audio enthusiast which is a completely different beast i know, but i want a sub that you could really feel, while still sounding pretty alright at least when the volume's down.
    these would be used to play a little bit of everything, rock, pop, and heavy techno.
    for punchy rather than natural would you recommend?

  • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
    @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  11 років тому

    And another thing, in a basement proper placement and EQ is a must, otherwise you will get some really crappy sound. Work around with them for a while and I'm pretty sure you and your guests will be amazed. Whether to go with the 15's or 18's, I can't give an good answer to that. The 18's will move much more air (the 15's are ~47,1 square inch while 18's ~56,5 square inch (The calculation 2*π*r, r being radius)) but usually smaller ones punch a little more precisely.

    Hello, great review, i was really hoping these would be great based on the one other review i've seen with them, i was actually looking at the 18 inch version, but but i'd like to get your input if you'd be so kind about the 1500d
    i wouldn't consider myself a DJ, more so through a bunch of parties and premae a playlist, i curently have a pair of 2 ways with 15 inch woofers of a brand i'm ashamed to mention, but i want more bass, the environment is a 30x30 basement,

    If you are looking for something more powerful you should look at some yorkville active subs like LS801p's. I've rented a pair of those and they were powerful. I used them for medium size gig 200-250ppl and they were more than enough.

    Yeah I'm aware of that, from all the reviews I read of them I got the feeling like this is something out of this world but I was naive. They do perform really well for their price but problem is I was looking for something way more powerful. I don't have space to store more than two subs, and on the other hand carrying a whole bunch around is a pain so I'm still looking for buying two, but next time something much more powerful. And I agree, many high end ones are total crap.

    There is really nothing in this pricerange that comes even near these. One good thing to think about is: if you really NEED to turn the knob all the way, the sub is too small for you. Get a bigger one. These are really loud, and if sq isn't so important (don't get me wrong, they sound just fine) most small/medium indoor gigs are suitable for these. If the main intention is to drop stuff off the walls and annoy the sh*t out of neighbours, these are the way to go. Bar none.

  • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee

  • @SoundSelector
    @SoundSelector 9 років тому

    I have the 1800D-PRO paired with 2XB115D's.
    I cant decide if I want the signal from sub to speakers should be filtered (~100hz) or unfiltered.
    How you hook up your speakers?

    • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
      @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  9 років тому

      I'd definitely run them through the crossover, simply because this way you avoid possible phase issues (when multiple sound sources producing same frequency airwaves interfere in a way that produces muted spots). More on the issue: www.soundandvision.com/content/setting-subwoofer-phase-easy-way

    • @SoundSelector
      @SoundSelector 9 років тому

      okay got it, good read, but isn't this the reason why subs have phase switches on them?
      Anyhow I have on filtered output over a month now, did some fine tuning over the EQ of the speaker (boosted the lows and a bit the highs)
      level of testing ~11:00 now I m experimenting with the sub. High cut isa pain in the ass to figure out!

    • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
      @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  9 років тому +1

      SoundSelector Indeed, however, as noted in the article: "Even if you can get them in phase at 80 Hz, they might not be at 100 Hz." Due to the nature of sound/airwaves, even the slightest distance and/or cone size difference will cause phase issues. That said, it is really up to you which way you want to go. You may get some really impressive 80hz responce, for instance, if all speakers are in phase at that frequency. Combined with a separate crossover, you could cut out anything below 70hz from the main speakers and 100hz from the sub, ultimately getting a really loud mid-base responce but not too much phase issues if properly set. Assuming that is what you are looking for. If your sub is powerful enough, the easiest way is to go with the built in filter and not worry about phase issues. Again, it's all dependant on what you are seeking to achieve.

    You can not overdrive the speaker and expect them to sound good. Cranking them to the top is an amateur move . It says a lot that you did not blow them given your lack of knowledge of Speakers in general.

    • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
      @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  9 років тому

      If you noticed, I didn't "crank them to the top". I had the volume set on all inputs to a 0 db balance, not peaking the input signal, and the volume knob on the sub set at 10 - 11 o' clock, way below the 0 point. To me this is either bad design, or overexagerated power claims.

    I guess you set your expectations too high. After all it is a behringer product. I own a pair of b1500d and the sound is pretty good better than some high end active subs that I have rented in the past. And it is all about what application you use them for if you are using them for small halls and bars it perfect anything bigger and you will need more than a couple.

Do you maybe have any experiences with any?

    i have this sub for 90 day! when i buy it it's ok, but now it rattle a lot! but I always use about 80% of the power! if use the 50%/60 will not have problems, but if you increase the volume continuos...(2:20) this box is weak for the power generated...why pay for 1000w and use 600w... will buy now the Fame 18A and sell mine

    • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
      @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  9 років тому

      I doubt it actually produces 1000w rms. There is a variety of ways to measure RMS power, which makes it an extremely inaccurate method for measuring power. Same applies for dB/m. The best is to believe your ears. In the case of this sub, I believe the problems lie in a underrated amplifier (this causes the cutoffs at the bass peaks when you turn it louder) and a poorly designed box. I don't know for the quality of the speaker element itself so I can't comment on that. Still, it's not bad for the price. It's seriously cheap. It just didn't quite cut it for me.

    are very light for the power ... I bet playing in 80% of the sound power sounds like shit and this box is already falling apart
    in a forum, I saw that one user b1800D tested the model and the real power is 650w rms and the maximum 118SPL db
    I go to the Fame SUB-18AX 800Rms solid box and sound good! and can still take two speakers 2x200w

    Ha, I see we're having a Behringer bashing party here. Yeah yeah, everyone agrees they aren't 2,000 speakers. While you were at it, why didn't you hook up the speakers and do a sample sound test instead of just talking about them?
    I am a lifelong musician and have owned the top of the line gear. I've been buying the Euro gear for about 7 years now. Three previous Behringer p.a. systems I sold are still cranking out in bars and churches.
    Get two pair of Behringer B215D's and two of these subs and you'll be able to fill a gymnasium. I have a good ear for music and I was able to get pristine excellent sound out of my systems using a good board.
    You should get rid of these and go ahead and save 3,000-4,000 and get your monster system. In the meantime, I'll just keep working with my Behringer system, then sell them down the road or donate them where they'll live another five-six years or more cranking out solid bottom end and sizzling highs.

    • @SuomiFinlandPerkelee
      @SuomiFinlandPerkelee  9 років тому

      Let's put it this way: if you want to know/hear/feel what a PA sub sounds like, shouldn't you listen to that specific sub? Well how is it possible for you to hear it listening through a sound clip from your home stereo or headphones? That will only tell you what your headphones sound like and if the sub was recorded with a quality mic or not. Therefore I don't include sound samples of subwoofers on my reviews.
      And no, I personally have nothing against behringer gear. Please see my review of the Behringer Xenyx mixer, for instance. The sole purpose of this review was to inform people who lived in the dream world - as I admittedly did - that a 400€ sub could outperform that of a quality, twice as expensive sub with similar specs. That does not by any means say this is a bad sub. It only says "If you are looking for a high performance sub that perform as a quality 1000€ sub would, you will have to pay around that 1000€", Which should come as no surprise to anyone.
