    I'm Marcel Moyse's Great Granddaughter. I had met him many times as a child but it wasn't until his death that I found out how inspiring he was. His music is amazing and I deeply regret not spending more time with him. For those of you who knew him personally, thank you.

      Hi Kate, Some of us out here are old enough to have had M. Moyse as a coach. We would travel up to Brattleboro--unforgettable--he was a great artist and inspiration.

      Hallo, I saw your great grandfather one day when I stayed in a hotel in his birthplace St. Amour. I heard flute playing in one of the rooms. The hotelkeeper told me that a professeur born in St. Amour came every year with some students to teach them.
      After supper they stood outside the hotel and chatted, and one of his students told me details. At that time, must have been at the end of the seventies, Marcel Moyse was not able to play the flute himself anymore, according to the student. As I play the flute myself I will never forget that encounter. (Gerhart W. from Munich where the modern traverso flute was invented by Theobald Böhm almost 200 years ago)

      For me and many Korean students, Marcel Moyse is a great teacher with his book "Sonorite" which is like the "Bible of flute practicising. "

    Good to be reminded of his playing. Went to his class - twice - so many years ago, when he was already very very old. this is such beautiful playing. Noting the vibrato actually pretty perfect, especially for its time. Intonation gorgeous and nuances superb.

    The master flute teacher of that century. Wish I'd played when he asked me. What a winning smile he had.

    Marcel Moyse was foundling. He had never known his father and mother.
    It's perharps for that his music is so wonderful.

    - The Moyse family were my neighbors back in the '50s. My mother told me that Marcel Moyse was considered to be the greatest flautist ever.. Apparently, eight deaf people disagree.

    @PinKpAndAs1 I think it may be a Cuesnon . I have seen a few of these in Dublin and they had the extended left hand keys. One of Moyse's pupils, Andre Prieur who played in Dublin may have played one.

    I've read that Moyse played a Louis Lot flute, or, later, a Powell body with his Lot head joint, presumably because the Lot body was at A-435. However, the closeup about a third of the way through is marked Cuesnon, so who knows.

      Moyse played a Lebret flute for his Doppler recording and later the Couesnon that he helped design.

      An old recording always is. The flutes were crafted with better materials. The older the flute the best tone and deeper it sounds. Im a flutist too.

    Robert Aitken said that? wow, I just went to his masterclass lesson last month, he said we young players should get our fingers as fast as we can while we can, and then refine later. Becoz when we are older we cannot get faster.

    Can anyone tell me if there was ' short' B flat device on the Couesnon flutes?

    • @rustydog1236
      @rustydog1236 7 років тому +1

      Lisnageeragh as far as I know, he always played a c FOOT, plateau model flute in a base metal.

      Not on the model that he played, which was a customized Monopole.
