I really, really appreciate all the hard work you put into this restoration. That was so sstisfying to watch and well worth it for the end result. Being from the 70's generation, I really loved that vintage 70's look and feel. I love the choice of color. This Jeep would match my vintage Kreo desk lamp. I would be proud to have this Jeep on display. Awesome restoration job! Thanks for sharing!

@@RestoreandRepair You are most welcome. I have been having a rough time lately and this video took my mind off of things if not for a brief period of time. I will definitely be on the lookout for more videos. I have often considered trying to do some restorations of old metal toy vehicles similar ro these but I do not have the equipment or the know how to do so. You make it look easier than it probably really is in reality. Thanks again for all the time and effort making these videos. This video resulted in me subscribing to your channel! I love restoration videos like these!

This one bring tears to my eyes. I used to have back in the days. It was Magenta colored with slightly different Tonka body decal and a white plastic removable top. I play with it. Even sit on it. It was battered and i think i broke it really bad. I'm 48 years old now and i really wish i still have and keep it. It's really hard to find one nowadays.

I have a soft spot for old Tonka trucks. My older brother would always let me play with his when we were kids. About a year ago my mother-in-law gifted me my husband's and my brother-in-law's old Tonka dump truck and back hoe. They're very rusty, but they've been played with and loved pretty hard.

Best advice I can give for taking down rust (restored quite a few rusty barn find tools). 1. Rust converter soak (I use evaporust) 2. Paint remover for the big paint (I use navy jelly paint remover) 3. Sand blast. By the time it gets to the blasting cabinet, it takes little to no effort to clean.

I had one of these when I was three and we moved to Johannesburg, SA. I was playing with it in the driveway and one of my dad's friends came over to the house. He was a real bastard. He aimed for my jeep and ran over it with his car. I distinctly remember watching him looking right at it and then crushing it.

For those who were mentioning less destructive ways to remove rivets--the exact Dremel bits you're looking for are called "Diamond Point" bits. Specifically the #7105 Diamond Wheel Point. You can get an official Dremel one for about ten bucks, or get a whole set with different shapes from Harbor Freight.

Hi Annette, its great seeing you again and I hope you have been well. The last few trucks I have purchased off Ebay. Usually if I find a super rusty one I try to make sure I get it. Whats cool is sometimes I get a back story on the toy and why its in such bad condition. I am going to try to throw that into the videos from now on if I can. lol yeah the sanding was A LOT >< I don't think I have spent that much time sanding on a car ever. I am really happy you liked the color. I was so happy to hear that you thought it went well with the 70's decals because that is the one reason I got the color. I couldn't find a color that fit well with the decals until I stumbled on the hot rod orange. Ohhh yeah, the interior on the original piece was very brittle and was cracking in my hands. You gotta use a more precise accessory bit to remove those rivets.Too much unnecessary damage to the surrounding metal.

Yes. Tungsten carbide burrs work great for this.

You gotta get it use appropriate tools. You were digging into and indenting into the original surface of the metal trying to take cut off the rivets. Use a drill next time
