I love discussing my old books with ChatGPT, esp to learn historical context and discover connections between books and events

That was any good use case I was going to discuss - AI conversation. Marketing and asking for elevator pitches for a bookseller is also fun.

Good looking out Adam. I am a collector, not a dealer, but I didn't even think of AI along these terms. Thanks for the video it will prove a great resource for rare and scarce book dealers and collectors.

🐘ChatGPT is fascinating to me. I have my own thoughts about AI but I won't bore you with them. I would really enjoy the book you are giving away. Today I followed you on UA-cam and TikTok and I am going to share one of your videos on my Instagram page 💚💜 These hearts should leave little doubt as to who I am.

Very informative, Adam. I’ll have to give it a try. As a collector I often times don’t even know what I have sitting on my shelf because of various reasons: can’t read Latin, Greek, etc… and google spits out sometimes nonsensical gibberish. This will help me understand what book I have other than it just being old and pretty. Thank you!

Great video! I've been experimenting with this new feature, too, and I've been just as impressed. One example: I uploaded the image of a woodcut from a 1486/7 Koberger bible (with commentaries of Nicholas de Lyra). Not only did it interpret the woodcut correctly, but, without asking, it also translated the Latin text beneath after successfully reading the ornate gothic type (and filling in all the abbreviations, too). Unbelievable.

I had asked it about an old text and received the answer which I was very happy about. When I went back to look at it I noticed someone must be flagging ancient religious texts as violating community guidelines. It was very concerning. It had flagged its own historically accurate response.

Awesome video! Glad to see you uploading again! Adam, i have a really interesting complete sample book from the 1900's. It portrays the amazing Madison Square Theatre; I understand this theater had a significant theatrical influence. It also includes other very interesting companies all located in Broadway, New York. I was hoping you can help determine the rarity and value of this sample book, if it even is one. Thank you for time and intriguing videos!

I think I'm going to give ChatGPT a try and see if it can maybe help me track down a book I've been attempting to locate for close to decade now. It's one of those frustrating cases where neither the title nor the author is known and all I have is a vague recollection of some of its contents. Awesome to see you back making videos again, and with such an interesting topic too :D

Welcome back!!! I enjoyed the video and have been watching your videos since I spotted you on an early episode of Pawn Stars. The technological implications of ChatGPT are both intriguing and a bit alarming. I do think that technology will play a large role in the bookselling trade going forward. But remember, several libraries jumped ship when digital readers first debuted, converting their collections to digital...and look how that worked out!! Keep up the good work.

Very interesting. I've used GPT3.5 a bit, but haven't used 4 very much (and did not know this feature was introduced). I'm curious how it would do if you provide it a page from a manuscript or ledger. Since in this case it only had a single written name I could see it having issues, but if it had a whole page of handwriting from one person, I would think it could recognize the writing pattern fairly well and discern what is written much more accurately than an average person.
I would be curious to see if you gave it a page from that Georgian manuscript you posted a short on the other day and asked it for an English translation if it would be able to give you anything meaningful.

I tried that and it did a decent job. Some gibberish but it got its basic content

Very impressive. I have heard they are ramping up for GPT5 next year. It will be interesting to see how much more powerful it becomes. I'll probably try this out on a judge's ledger from the early 1800s I have that I have been too lazy/busy to try and transcribe myself.@@RareBookBuyer

Yes that is important to remember. As an interpreter and translator by profession I see people putting text thru computer generated translation tools and publishing it without a human editor. Big mistake, as yes, they are improving but they are not completely accurate.
