The Albion Principe - Most Powerful Cutting Sword?

- Here is my review of the "Konami code of swords", the longsword that delivers the easiest, most impressive cuts of anything I've tried so far (as of April 2020). This thing is a beast.
Water bottles, tatami mats, particle board, thick tree branches...nothing is safe. :)

The Most Powerful Cutting Sword is the Sword that can cut through Plot Armor
Which is all of them, you just need to find the author.
Chainer brilliant retort sir
Isn't the sword often the plot hole though? Lightsabers are the most obvious. Okay you can block another lightsaber you might cut through a sword but I don't know you want molten metal thrown at you. Also deflect a blaster bolt... They aren't fast, a bullet however would probably melt a little bit going through the lightsaber, but again molten metal now going over the speed of sound.
Does illustrate how good us humans are at killing though. Reality if we meet aliens is that we will be dominate in war unless they are k2 and up. Because war never changes, however it totally does only the human harm is similar sick, sad, and true.
@@BlackHeart1216 at this point I'd say the author's own printed work would be a more appropriate weapon

Everyone "Curved blades are the best cutters"
Albion "is that so?"
To be fair, the Albion is using an entirely revolutionary (but surprisingly simple) principle to allow for it to surpass curved blades at cutting.
Revolutionary in that you don't sacrifice stabbing ability.
@@TechnoMinarchist What would that be?
NOOOOO!!!! MY KATANA IS THE BEST CUTTER WITH CURVE BLADE DESIGNED FOR BEST CUTTING PERFORMANCE AND finesse
haha albion principe go woosh-woosh
Curved blades are best cutters, Because they will help in getting proper alignment for a cut. With a straight blade you have to smaller angle to achieve a proper cut. With a static object does not matter as much if you know how to maintain proper edge alignment, but does not mean a curved blade is not better for cutting.
My pen is a better cutter

Blazing Steel yeah your right man
metalfaust19 I recently got my zt sword so I’m all set for now
@@SanicSez what ZT model did you get?
Regarding your repairs to the sword, Even a skilled blade smith probably couldn’t have done better. Reheating and forging means you need to re-polish which takes off a lot more material than you’d think. And since the blade is so thin to begin with you’d end up with a super thin blade as well as losing material around the edges to keep the angle consistent. (I’m a blade smith and I’ve tried it before)
@@brandonbarnwell5916 as a bladesmith myself I have doubts that that would work I'm not saying that it couldn't but I've done a lot of work with steel obviously and whenever steel is cool or especially in his climate *cold* steel tends to need a slight bit of overcorrection to regain its original shape, basically imagine if you have a steel wire that's bent into the shape of a u, if you were to simply bend the metal straight it would still retain a bit of its curve once You released pressure off of it, so to make it stay straight and true even after pressure is relieved you have to slightly over correct the bend.
Why is it called a “scent-stopper” pommel? Does the name imply that I’m supposed to throw it really hard at my opponent’s nose, which would make them lose their sense of smell?

Your enthusiasm is really apparent! I rarely see you give such glowing and unambiguously positive reviews.
Last time I was this early, pommels had never been used to end foes rightly
Lol
Truly the darkest of times, Knight times.
The first person to realize that pommels can be unthreaded and thrown: "I am become death. The destroyer of worlds."
You are getting this wrong. Swords were designed around throwable pommels, not the other way around. Before there was the blade, there was the pommel.

*"There can be **_Only One"_*
So would this be at the top of the list for a immortal?
Considering that you'll be doing single dueling but will need decapitation strokes.
I'm glad Highlander is still the standard of practicality we judge swords to this day.
And yup, seems like a top notch choice. Two handed, great cutting, great agility. The only thing that makes it not that good is the lack of conceability, although immortals seems to have mastered the way of hiding long swords in seemingly normal cloth so maybe not.
The width of the blade isn't an issue from a "stay stuck" perspective as they mostly battle duels. If the blade stay stuck in an immortal, they're not going put much of a fight afterward anyway.
@@Contevent Is this actually suitable sword for blocking?
@@modisp blocking what?
@@modisp It's wide enough so it looks like it Can take a few hit. It's agile enough to intercept a blade, but beyond that I don't know.
The technical issues to blocking are beyond my compétence.

even thulsa doom died by steel!
I love Albion swords. I’d have two or three by now but college is a bit more important currently. Great video and I’m excited to watch the future ones!
Skall i have a question. Since we know that historically swords have different edge profiles along the same blade, is there any evidence that one side of a double edged sword is blunter so that it would be more suitable for encountering harder materials? So the sword would have a "sharp" side, for lightly armored opponents, and a "Dull" side for when the blade was expected to encounter mail or plates.
I highly doubt it, simply because it's basically impossible to consistently keep track of which side is which in the middle of combat.
@@Skallagrim I was going to respond with the same. You'd quickly lose track of which edge is which.
You could probably paint each edge but shouldn't be looking at your blade in combat.
@@Skallagrim How well would that kind of sword perform if it were to exist?
Let's just say that you can keep track which side is which, either by painting it or have some indicator on the grip so you can feel the side.
@@Efra_EMX well, even if it's dull an edge wouldn't do any good against mail or plate anyway. People had other weapons more suitable to deal with such kind of targets. Sword was far from being the only weapon a knight or even a foot soldier would carry into battle. The need to counter armor was a big deal at the time, that's why maces, polearms, spears and pointy edges were so common.
A sword with a dull edge would be less efficient than these weapons, adding to the fact that keeping track of which edge is which is downright impossible in a battle as Skallagrim said, I think it would perform very poorly.
That was essentially the idea behind the double headed axe: One sharp side for felling trees & the other for chopping out roots after they'd been exposed as soil is an excellent medium for blunting a sharp edge. But I've never heard of it being applied to swords.
I don't know why but I found it really funny in the beginning when you started reviewing the sword and the weather started to worsen. Great review, Skal, and beautiful sword!
The Principe is my top pick for an unbelievable cutting sword for soft targets. Extra leverage with the longer grip, and scentstopper pommel, and the same absurdly fantastic type 18c blade as the alexandria.
The only gripe I have with the principe is just the decorative mid piece. Wish it was not there.
@@myco9253 I kinda like it, remindsm e of castillion swords.

question for gamers here: who thinks the Principe looks awfully similar to the Great Sword on Mount and Blade Warband?
If only the blade was a little bit thicker, and maybe tiny bit slimer in width, it would look exactly the same!
"That's a nice head you have on yer shouldahs!"
Pretty sure M&B sword based off this one. But longer
Got to love how with each strike during the video examples there's this music for a half second, I know it was just taken from the completed cutting video itself, but I want to believe that the sword itself also plays music when it's in "battle", or being used, but cuts off when no longer needed. With it being such an effective weapon, "battle" only lasts a half second, so it can only play music for a very sparse amount of time.
Did Skall encountered health issues or just getting middle age?
