Im binge watching your videos! There isnt alot of UA-camrs who are doing this i found someone channel called Holden it down she showed her journey from starting as a foster mom but then finally went to adoption thanks for your videos keep em coming!
I'm binge watching these too! I actually started my own channel to document my fostering journey... I'm at the very beginning stages of the fostering application process... I hope to share all that I know going through it in New York... I'd love for you to join me! Best wishes!
I'm currently with a private agency, and my spouse and I truly appreciate the support we received. However, your video solidified what I've been suspecting for a while now with regards to county FP's getting "first dibs" to kids under 5. Since we are no longer in need of the add'l handholding, we are now trying to get license through the county. It's unfortunate that county staff (in my city) aren't as attentive and organized as the agencies.
Yes it is definitely a different experience, and I’ve heard a lot of bad stories from some of my surrounding counties. We have been so lucky though that our social worker is an angel and she has been so good about being responsive and helps take care of whatever we need. Truly some counties are just better toward their foster families than others. I hope you all have a smooth transition and get a good social worker (because that is really what makes all the difference!)
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I are going through a private agency and I’ve been nervous wondering what we might be missing out on. And I’m a little sad it’s likelier we won’t be placed with younger children (I have 3 boys 4 and under and we didn’t want to go out of birth order) but the support makes me feel a lot better. We live in a county where the DSS is notorious for being unreliable and not supportive. So I appreciate all the information!
emfun13 there are definitely pros and cons to both! My husband and I are with DSS directly and we have considered switching to private to have the extra support. Buuut all of our placements have been 5 and under (with 3 of them being 2 and under) so definitely can get the babies through DSS (I also do live in a high opioid use area though so babies are common here due to the drug issues). But yes, there are for sure pros and cons to both! Thank you for fostering! ❤️
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I were interested in adopting through foster care and we are going through a private agency. We just had our very first opportunity to adopt twin girls who's parental rights had been terminated. We were told the girls would be placed in a temporary transitional home while we got to know them. I kept feeling like DCFS was dragging their feet in setting up meetings and allowing us to meet the girls after we'd been told everything had to move quickly. We finally had all of our visits with the girls and we told the girls we wanted to adopt them. Every time we were together one of the twins constantly asked were we going to adopt them, why did she have to keep going back to the foster mom's house? I told her yes, we want to adopt you and we asked if she wanted us to adopt her and she said yes. No one aside from our caseworker, including the foster mom of 2 months ever asked how the visits were going, how we felt, how we thought the girls felt, if we had any concerns..nothing. The day before we're all supposed to me and sign the adopt papers we get a call from our caseworker saying the foster mom wants to adopt the girls and the twins are split on who they want to live with. We were told they would let us know the next day what the outcome would be. We get a call the next day and are told that both girls want to stay with the foster mom. We know DCFS is not telling the truth. Every visits, the one twin made it clear numerous times that she wanted to be adopted by us. When we asked the other twin what she liked about being at the foster mom's house she would say she liked playing with the foster mom's 10 year old cousins...they live 3 hours away from the foster mom. How does someone who has had the girls for 2 months and is supposed to be a transitional home and preparing the girls for adoption get priority? They made this decision without any questions, interviews of us, no home visits...nothing. We just don't understand why or how they can allow us to create this bond with the intention of adopting and take it away without even a conversation. I really feel like there is a lot more to this and I think the system is corrupt!
Omg That is terrible! And I have heard this story (ones just like it anyway) many times. It’s more work and more money for the county to outsource to private agencies… so they try harrrrrrd to fill and prioritize their homes before sending kids to private! But keep going, it’s not about IF you will adopt, just a matter of WHEN ❤️
@@fromthefosters being fresh out of the IMPACT CLASSES and doing the digging we are doing.... if dcfs or cps doesn't want to play by the rules there is nothing we can do about it. We actually have a meeting with our lawyer this week. Even if the girls are not adopted by us dcfs/cps needs to be held accountable because they are not even following their own handbook.
I am currently going through the licensing process in South Carolina, with my husband and we've been told that as of now DSS only focuses on kinship placements and all other is through agencies. So for us we didn't have a choice other than choosing the agency we preferred. obviously this is probably just the state of SC but yeah.
I appreciate this video as you mention it's not impossible. I was licensed for 1 month with a private agency and received a 3 day old baby. Unfortunately, it turns out that agency is very unethical and the support is non existent. Please do your research (future resource parents) as some agencies are in it for the wrong reasons (not supporting bio reunification and will do whatever it takes to get that baby adopted out in order to get that bonus $). Yes there's a bonus for each adoption is placed. Please please research your agency before picking one.
Where I live the only state agency isn’t doing any adopt from foster care only, they are only taking on foster parents at the moment. Which I understand the dire need, but there’s also need for permanent homes. Also it seems that in my state Private Infant adoption is being pushed to the top. That’s all the agencies offer and then in some little corner of the website they have “adopt older kids through foster care!” Trying to start on the journey, but it has proven to be difficult even to find an agency to start with 😞 Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you so much for this info. I was wondering if the state is requiring foster parents to be vaccinated and/or the children? Plus your thoughts, if any.
Children in foster care are required to be vaccinated. In my state foster parents have to have some vaccinations but not all. I’m sure it varies state to state! But for the most part… children in foster care are required to be vaccinated!
Thank you for this video! I'm in NC and we are wanting to adopt a daughter. You spoke of pitbulls, we have 4... they love people but not other strange dogs. Now I'm concerned. Do you know of any private agencies that do allow them if you're solely adopting? We don't want to foster right now, but we are looking to adopt an older child, between 8-11. We have 3 sons (19, 14, and 12).
I would google the foster agencies in your area! They vary by county… most private agencies will cover a few counties in one region of the state. So I would start with finding which ones serve your county… and then start calling around and ask the question!
Private not for profit organizations means less reporting laws and more incentives for workers to take and sell more kids. With such incentives 76% of kids are taken away for reasons of neglect which under thier classifications can be just about anything but mostly people of low income are targeted, yes loving parents that even tho work hard don't have enough money or time to clean thier home all day and work and afford everything needed like individual bedrooms for each child. As well as any parent having a disability in most states is a legal reason they use to take children from their parents. Not to mention countless times social workers are caught lying and taking kids for absolutely no legal reason whatsoever. Kids are being taken from loving parents and abused in foster care and countless end up dead and or missing because these private companies get around reporting laws being under the private non profit or religious exemptions sector. This is how human trafficking in the foster system is disguised and left unnoticed. Over 100,000 missing kids from this system in the last few years and countless evidence coming out about the abuse these kids are experiencing through these private organizations. Christian and otherwise they're all corrupt!!!. You giving out information while obviously being naive about the organizations you're promoting is unknowingly promoting child trafficking. Please research the statistics and reasons for removal as well as the reports of abuse from the church organizations you're promoting! Until then the blood of every child taken from loving parents and abused and lost and unreported in these organizations is also on your hands. Wake up!!!

I wish they listed the STATE she's talking about because not all states are the same.
Yup! And I definitely mention in most of my videos that’s things will vary state to state and I can only speak from my experience
@@fromthefosters but i saw this one, and you didn't mention it in this response either.
@@Bluesidian my apologies. This was one of my earliest videos in my UA-cam journey. I definitely mention it more in my more recent videos. I am in NC
When you say a little more monthly stipends, are you saying a couple hundred a month or like 50 a month?

Can we be licensed with both the county and private
No. One of the other.
