Awesome list Mark! So many nostalgic cars that don't get mentioned enough in other rare/underated JDM cars videos. Great to see the GTiR, Soarer 1ggte and legnum get a mention for once. Ps, re your fwd that should be rwd video. Try get behind the wheel of a manual mivec fto gpx or version r (with good tyres) some time, and hit a winding mountain road at 8+k redline. You'll be glad its fwd. Gran tourimo was the reason I've owned 2 FTOs but the game doesn't do that little 1 tonne fwd v6 the justice it deserves.

I believe the Toyota Starlet is pretty underrated too. They are pretty unheard of in the states. The thing I love about them is the insane amount of engine swaps you can put in the Starlet. They’re still pretty cheap to this day if I’m not wrong.

fto fan here! had no idea your first JDM experience was with an fto, i can say for sure it's deserving of the underrated title. from what i've seen, it's still being imported to the US and UK (the latter is significantly more enthused by it) and is pretty cheap despite it being so rare! the history behind it is interesting, it originated from a coupe version of the galant.
Yeah it’s the most random car but I loved it in gran Turismo 4 and made me branch out from strictly American back then
When i first got in to jdm cars i decided to look through all jdm cars, including concept cars, and i was mind blown by how many cars that are left in dust and forgotten, absolute shame. We gotta appreciate more of these cars they're so cool.

One I would recommend looking at is the Mazda MX-3 mostly since I love the looks and it had passive rear wheel steering. I would also add the Nissan Pulsar NX it is the most 80’s looking car I think I have ever seen.

The Z20 is dope, and it's a true JDM too. There was a lot of excitement in the Japanese Press when it was released in 1986.
Haven't watched a Mark vid in awhile and it was awesome as usual. Another underated car from Nissan is the Nissan Pulsar VZR N-1 Nissans answer to the Civic type R that gets no love. And the Pulsar GTIR was actually AWD.

A sc300 or a clean is300 my recommendation. I have a is300 that i recently manual swapped. They’re light fun cars with some convenience. Sc300 have better style and a better ge motor than the is300. An sc300 has really interesting stuff. In any case, find one with a good service record, if not, ask a lot of questions.
Depends on budget tbh, IS300s are better imo but they’re also more pricey

Kind of curious for your opinion- on a 10k budget what would be a good 80s to early 90s jdm car to daily? I love the boxy and straight edge look of jdm cars from around then and was wondering which would be the best for reliability and to daily while not being too expensive and not a total fart box

An alternate to the Legnum is the Diamante wagon. Very nice. Clean. It's what America got. Very underrated
Question or statement, I feel that the terminator spoilers used on those black civics in the fast 1 and the body kits would also look hella sick almost the same on a classic Nissan 200sx 2dr manual, not the 240sx, the Nissan version of a civic the 200sx, you could also do best 2 seater JDMs from the late 70s to late 90s that would be sweet.

Ive been subbed to you since before 10k, but i wanted to say that it may be the right move to transition away from top 10 videos. A potential avenue would be to create car commentary content (in a similar way to alex martini and drew peacock) I love your channel mark, but I think that it would be wise to diversify your content especially since its easy to run out of ideas for top 10s . I've driven a few Soarers (Z10 and Z20) - they were meant to be luxury cars so they have massive steering wheels, very little feedback, the suspension is soft, and they feel high-riding - typical of similar 80s cars like the R31 and 190E. All of this could be sorted with some bracing and sportier suspension, but the A70 would be a better car overall for sports driving (and drifting), especially given the shorter wheelbase.

I’m trying to get an underrated jdm car to mod to the bone, but there’s this tune shop right by my house who has like 10 r34s 10r33s and some 35s and other jdms, they had a classic rolls Royce the other day, and if you pass by the shop looks like it’s barely hanging on by a thread lmao, I’ll end up buying one from them Fosho

All the cars from fast and furious franciese from worst to best ( I only really like the first 3 movies, the rx7, eclipse grn, supra, integra, s2000, skyline) and the best was that long intro to 2fast 2 furious where Brian is racing and winning and modding his skyline he bought all junked out, it's hella inspiring for a JDM junkie down and out like me. I was a 93 delsol royal blue wit custom Intake and racing muff, 2 12s in trunk but cant fit nothing else. You could do best classic JDMs to add aluminum spoilers to (single, or double deckers) and best JDMs for fiberglass spoilers ( like the big upside down U on the Crx, sits a little higher than the roof lol)

And Toyota Celica gts (7th gen) is also underrated too...even in original 2zz engine from Japan. People are starting to look for 2zz Celica instead of V-tec, which has gone crazy in price.

MX6, FTO, Legnum, Cosmo... unfortunately had their decent share of problems IRL, despite how cool they seem on paper.
If you knew anyone who owned or had these cars in your country, youd know why theyre not underrated at all, and mostly forgotten for fair reasons.

I disagree that the GT-Four is underrated in the JDM world. They’re very well-known in Europe and the like. The 3S-GTE again is a very well known platform and has fairly healthy aftermarket support. Possibly because of the laws you have in the states they are less well known there or it’s just that the USA is very late to the party in the JDM scene thus being slept on.
I don’t know everything but I reeeeeaaalllyy don’t think the 1st Nissan is called the Nissan “Stay J” …… mark I never heard anyone say it like that. I’m pretty sure it’s “stay gia” but what do I know

Without the Celica there wouldn't be a JDM seen in the US in the first place and 2 clearly you have never even driven one or you would understand that they are super underrated. You want a cheap RWD hatch get a second or third gen Celica want a fun canyon car get any of them and a straight line missile get the last gen. You don't get to talk about the GT 4.
