One of my all time top 10 favorite songs of the Everly's. I always wanted them to release these as a single... it would have been a huge top 10 hit for them! They both sounded so great & Phil's voice just soared into the stratosphere.... I think they only sang it a couple of times at their concerts.... it was a killer on Phil's vocal cords! Thanks so much for posting! It is so wonderful that a whole new generation will hear this outstanding, brilliant song!
I have been playing this track on my radio show in Tasmania Australia for years now and every time I play it I get someone ringing up to see if they can buy the CD. I have the CD and Album and it is one of my favourite tracks. if only commercial radio had got behind it and maybe if it was released as a single it would have been a huge hit.
I used to play this song on radio station WLBQ-AM, Morgantown, KY. It always moved me. Now, I am going to play it with my band on stage. Don't know if I can do this song justice, but it deserves to have me do my best with it.
I used that verse "May You Always Drive a Cadillac may you always drink Champagne"for the Toast at my best friends wedding back in 1986..I was the Best Man...
Yes, I agree. When they were in Shenandoah for their Homecoming Concert, I took photos of them in a Cadillac convertible in the parade, and several more while we toured the town looking at old memories.
Jerry spies. I was at Shenandoah and have several pictures of them in the Cadillac, too. I got a few of them onstage, too, before the weather moved in.
I asked Phil why they never performed this live or made a video of it. He said it was too long. I have a photo of him and Donald in a Cadillac that I included in my book of their homecoming concert.
Written by Larry Raspberry. The lyrics were incredible. Sounds like it came from a personal experience of his. The EB's performance was exceptional, especially Phil's harmony.
They both are ultra hot on this song ! So strong and wild yet the harmonies are still so tight and so Everly-ish !! Those jerks today have to listen to this to know what a (two, in Everly case lol} real rocker is !!
hi darrenjray, the last lines , that is don. the harmony in the song of course is phil. i read somewehere that don sang the song without phil, and later phil came to the studio and joined his part, but i dont know if that is true.
If you search out the Everly Brother's complete song catalog you will find many unheard of before great hits. Fantastic music that was made but never fully appreciated or played at the time of its release. I hope others find the vast amount of music that the Everly Brothers created and the appreciation by others of their music grows.
Ahhhh yes, been there, done that. I wasn't what she wanted out of life, she wanted money and fame. she found it in this guy, but he blew his fortune on hookers, booze and gambling, until he lost it all. She came crying back to me, but by that time I was married. She hinted strongly we should get back together, but I said no, even though she still had a place in my heart. So be careful what you want out of life, what you wish for and to those you hurt on the way up, because things have a way of coming back, to bite you in the ass. I sent her this song and to my surprise, she agreed with it. The last time I saw her, she held me close, cried and told me how sorry she was......oh Well!!
Does anybody REALLY know who it is singing the last two lines? It's the high harmony line but to my ears it sounds like Don. In fact, the harmony in the rest of the song also sounds like Don to me!
Always drive a McLaren, Audi RS8, Lamgorghini, Ferrari or Bentley would be more to my taste. Come to think of it a Porsche 918, Bugatti or LaFerrari FXX K works fine as well.

This should have been their biggest ever hit - it's the outstanding track of their entire Mercury output.
Nice song of the Everly Brothers!
So beautiful, I had to cry at the last.

Rest in Peace, Phil.
I just love this song so much.
It's from the 1985 'Born Yesterday' album
love this song!!!!!!!!!!
Are those the same chords used on I Am Australian?
Larry Raspberry wrote this amazing anthem . A great lyric and melody and feel. Check out Larry's other intense work with his band The HighSteppers
Really pleasant song.
Fantastic sentiments!!!
T J Colatrella. The guy sitting down playing the guitar during the bridge is Phil Donnelly.
The Bard coined the word: Futurity. This is It.
most impressive
Thank u Peter for this, yet another mystery song I haven't heard b4. Is it on an album?
It's on their Born Yesterday album (1985)

You are correct. All 3 post reunion albums were recorded this way. Shots together were for publicity. @@peterlisten

Who's on guitar Albert Lee or James Burton some super playing on here..
TJ Colatrella I believe it's Albert.
I think Phil Donnelly is in there, too.
The magic harmony is still there, but sadly lost in the modern reverb production.
hi jerry, too long of course.
but a video maybe nevertheless??
was possible?
peter
I'll bet Finn and the boys on Glee could sing it to Rachel.
