DIRT CHEAP Subaru gets a mechanical refresh | PROJECT 4X4ESTER EP1

I've gotten my old Foz back, but it's not exactly how I remember it. After being battered around for a couple of years with almost no maintenance, the repair bill has it destined for the scrapyard with a conservative estimate of nearly $6000.
$6000 is the mechanic's price anyway, and I know I can get it done for a lot cheaper myself if I set aside some time for it. But that's just to get it driveable again - what I actually want is a tough, trail-ready daily that looks and sounds the part too. So here's the challenge: Get the Foz fixed up, tidied up and modified for off-roading - and do it all for less than the repair estimate.
