      Just because a new mom bounces back to her pre-pregnancy body does not mean that she had plastic surgery. I weighed 110 pounds (I'm 5 ft 6 inches tall) before I got pregnant with both of my babies. I gained 60+ pounds with each one. Never once did my doctor question the amount of weight that I gained because I was underweight before. Literally by my 6 week check-up I was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes (size 4). I did not diet and I did not exercise. It was all based on my genes. I also bottle fed my first and breastfeed my second. It helped that most of my weight gain was excess amniotic fluid but obviously not all of it. My first son weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces. My second son weighed 9 and a half pounds. 😳😳😳

    Really no-one can stop a rich person from doing whatever they like with their own body or life. But they should be transparent about it and collectively we should talk about it because there are too many ignorant and young people who can totally be misguided with this concept of made-up beauty standards. Too many young people develop mental health issues in connection with people standardising certain looks. There is no diversity in all this. People just keep replicating standard lips, nose , teeth, cheekbones and so on.

    Idk…like I don’t judge anyone for wanting the work done, but I think as a society we need to examine why we want to look like this. Clearly no one is born looking like the celebrities and models or very few ever are.
    In middle school I read a series of books call Uglies, Pretties, and Specials. It’s always stuck with me and it’s basically about a society where plastic surgery is a right of passage. When you turn, idk 16 I think? You get to go under the knife for the first time and you get perfectly chiseled and shaped. You go back whenever you want to add crazy accessories or whatever you want. If you’re still “ugly” you’re a second class citizen.
    I know it’s fantasy, but there are definitely some parallels to modern society.
    You do you…but I think we need to stop making this so desirable.

    • @EssentialBlue
      @EssentialBlue 2 роки тому +13

      Thank you for your comment. I see the parallels.
      In highschool we were made to write a discussion about a newspaper article about how xy % girls get their boobs done after graduation and why we think it is good or bad. (defintively a 2-digit number)
      Lots of my school collegues wrote only positive stuff about it. I didn't and got a bad mark :D
      I believe that young people when they don't have a deep psychological or medical probleme should be made to wait with this stuff until they stop being hormonal teenagers. (also then they might have to pay themselves instead of their wealthy parents)
      This ideal comes from the perfect looking role model celebs are without telling a) that they did cosmetic surgery b) that it might have hurt and permanently damaged them (f.e. their teeth)

    • @blazingapparition2687
      @blazingapparition2687 2 роки тому +11

      Honestly, in an ideal world people would just be happy with how they look from birth but it's unfortunately not how it is. I think that's just part of human nature to feel this way, we're flawed beings and not always logical lol I dont think celebrities make plastic surgery desirable specifically, its just easy for us to see the before and afters with them. People would likely still want to make these changes with themselves either way. If you're unhappy with your teeth (like me) or your nose or whatever it is, I don't see any problem with a person deciding for themselves to have surgery to change these things. Especially if it makes them happier in the long run. We're here for an awfully long time on this earth, may as well be happy in the body you're in! Unhappiness and body shaming (to one's self) can be debilitating to a person.
      I'm also not meaning over the top crazy stuff that you see with the 'walking Ken doll' etc. I just mean small surgeries to make you feel happier and even healthier in some instances.

Take it from someone who was denied them as a teen and has ended up with agonising teeth issues caused by my screwed up crossbite (basically some parts of my mouth overbite and other parts underbite), shifting teeth, breaking them because of uneven alignment, teeth shifting (sideways, forward, backwards, you name it) because of the messed up bite. There were so many beautiful smiles in this video: With thinner lips and slightly crooked teeth, a bump in the nose here and there - and it all added so much personality to their faces. They seemed like actual, fun people who I could've been at school with. And afterwards they turned into these unrelatable 'perfect' sculptures. No human normally looks like this and I think it's a shame that society gets more and more divided into the "rich and beautiful", who have the money to conform themselves to unachievable body/beauty goals, and the regular folk who don't, but constantly have to look at photoshopped pictures of surgically altered bodies and are being told that that's beautiful.
      It leaves people feeling like their natural bodies aren't good enough and it's sad.
      Plastic surgery should only be considered for cases where a person's chances of living a healthy, happy, confident life are signifiantly impacted by their looks. A society that obsesses over beauty and perfection to sell products will make its inhabitants sick and miserable.

    I was one of the first patients in the US to get a porcelain veneer. In fact a company rep did the procedure, so my dentist could learn the procedure. I had this chipped tooth so I've had it veneered 3-4 times over the years. My neighboring teeth (one of which was "bruised" when I fell and chipped the other tooth) started to discolor. After years of pestering from my dentist I got four teeth veneered - both front teeth and their mates on either side. I'm really glad I had it done and am really pleased with the results. My teeth were fairly white before so I didn't get the "electric white" type that don't look natural in color at all, but maybe a shade lighter. I would tell others that unless your teeth have been seriously neglected don't get it done. If they're discolored, crooked or chipped or missing then do veneers. Otherwise, leave them alone - and get a natural color! Nobody knew I had it done - including my siblings - and I got very few remarks on them. Sometimes people say things like, "You must have just from a dental cleaning - your teeth are really white!" As far as the Kardashians I think each one gets the exact same look as their other sisters. You can't tell one from the other now. They all looked great before but now they look like they have masks on.

    You should check out the book series Uglies. I read it in middle/high school and I really liked it! It takes place in the future where everyone gets major cosmetic surgery when they turn 16 to make them a “Pretty”, because their ideology is that making everyone attractive eliminates a lot of social and economic issues. It tackles a lot of issues like body image, social pressure, willful ignorance and corruption in places of power. It’s been a while since I read it but it’s surprisingly mature and well-written for a YA series

      Same thing goes for noses really! I mean I do understand how one might feel uncomfortable with a very big nose - and really, if the only way to feel better for you is to go under plastic surgery, then I won't judge it. But I think it's sad when everyone just wants to have this small straight nose, while noses are actually something that makes your face really unique. Like I would never say big noses are generally ugly, because some people would just look weird with small noses - or what's often the case; they'd lose their uniqueness. I really came to appreciate all the different types of noses because they add so much character to a face, while right now society's trend is to tell people their noses should be small and cute - and that should be judged in my opinion.

    Amazing what a lot of money, access to the best trainers, dieticians, chefs, cosmetic surgeons, professional makeup, and not being too drained by the daily grind to spend all that time and money on exercising and eating right can do.
    I agree with others, the problem isn't getting plastic surgery it's when they deny having work done. Media and companies already do so much with photoshop, editing, and carefully curating what images are used that creates impossible and unhealthy ideals, denying or lying about what work you've had done just adds to that. No one is obligated to share everything they've had done but it would be nice if celebrities and influencers at least admitted they've had work done even if they prefer to keep what between themselves and their plastic surgeons.

This isn't attainable for ME without a diet that's ridiculously restrictive and a trainer hired by Marvel! Once I'm done with this show, I'm not training like this ever again! I'm not eating like this forever!" It was so refreshing to hear someone say point blank that their body was absolutely not just 'healthy' or 'toned' and wasn't maintained by smoothies and jogging, but was actually being actively and _expensively_ sculpted by a team of people for a very short term goal.

      Yes I used to think that too, but the majority have undeniably had surgeries - some even so subtle that they could be played off as makeup usage. • @izstrella
      @izstrella 2 роки тому +1

      By assuming they are "just using makeup or lost weight" the sentiment ends up being that we are assuming "the best" of them, when surgery itself shouldn't be regarded any differently. We don't consciously do it (I mean, most people don't I hope, haha), but I would be lying if saying it's just makeup didn't feel like making an "excuse" for a celebrity to shield them from the 'HORRENDOUS TRUTH' that is plastic surgery. It feels right because we're intending to treat the celebrity with kindness, but in actuality it ends up furthering the stigma against plastic surgery, when it's simply a more expensive form of self-expression and, for some, covering up insecurities.

    "when i get layed in my coffin i dont want to be perfectly preserved. I want to die wheelchair bound, to show that i used my legs to till they gave out. I want to have a mouth full of gums, to show that i ate everything my heart desired. I want my hands to be knotted and worn, to show that that are in fact the greatest tools a person is ever given. I dont want to die perfectly preserved, i want my body to show that it was used, that it was appretiated, that it was the body of a person who lived a good long and happy life. A body that i didnt take, not one part of it, for granted.

People have commented on it too, because not only does pretty teeth give confidence - and confidence is sexy - but it also just, brightens your face. I'm sure you've had many dental professionals chime in on their opinions. I've been a dental assistant for over 40 years and have seen a lot, I can tell you! Cosmetic dental work is fantastic. However, people don't know that veneers can pop off, break and you can't bite with your front teeth any more. The reason is all the force you exert on them. Also, once you work on a tooth, such as crowns or veneers, they have to be replaced. Everytime they are replaced you lose more tooth structure, resulting in weakness of the remaining tooth.
    So, think it over carefully and do research on qualified Dentists. Look for board certified Cosmetic professionals. It's not a one time thing and you're done. I've worked for Dentists who never ever inform their patients about the fact that the work needs to be redone years down the road. Also, be very aware of clinics over selling you on frivolous items. Don't get me started on teeth bleaching lol!

    Dunno… My story and my path has lead me in the body positive direction so I’m all about embracing your flaws rather then ‘fixing’ them. I’m not against plastic surgery and I think if you know who you are and you think it will help you prosper and grow.. go for it. The problem for me is when people do it just for the validation from the world. There are some privileges in being beautiful but true happiness comes from feeling comfortable in your body and it is much harder to accomplish then a few cuts :)
    You have to be whole inside to even make a decision to change your body so, in my opinion, you should really know who you are first and then, if something is really bothering you, change it.
    Also, I’ve find a comment from dr. Ramani interesting: she said that we are living in the time of narcissism and ‘picture perfect’ life. Narcissists don’t have a personality, they are just trying to be perfect in front of the world …and there is only ‘one type of perfect’ and that is why all the people are starting to look very similar. Scary thought… that we are all ending up looking the same in the times when, supposedly, we celebrate differences the most.

      It's crazy scary that we are being marketed paying a fortune and working ourselves miserable to get surgery, make-up, diets and exercise plans just to look all the same. Instead of having a variety of human beauty. And instead of being content in our unique selves and looking like our parents, grand-parents and our own children.
      Even if I felt a little better after having some surgery, I would feel horrible if I had a child that looked like me and it felt ugly because not even I looked like myself anymore. It's heart-breaking that children grow up in a world focussed on perfection and beauty, because it will inevatably hurt them in some way. I'd rather my child have my big nose and large front teeth and feel looking like me than feeling like an ugly duckling around swans.

    You honestly don’t see a problem with this?!?! That’s insane! And then you wonder why women’s beauty standards are the way that they are. I thought the new trend was supposed to be embracing one’s own self, excepting of flaws (because we all have them), and loving yourself for who you are and what you look like. The Kardashians have set the new beauty standard, there are literal people out there that strive to look like those morons. It’s all so disgusting. Why can’t people except and love the person they are? Shouldn’t we be promoting that, to living outside the Kardashians cookie cutter beauty standard?!?!

      @@kayrenee404 Could not agree more 😊. I’ve seen quite a different UA-camr’s covering those topics. I wish people would wake up and realize that the issue(s) that they are trying to fix isn’t on the outside. Cosmetic surgery isn’t something to take lightly, it’s expensive, painful, and risky. I personally feel that if anyone wants cosmetic surgery that they would have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, followed by weekly therapy sessions. I mean they have literally dedicated an entire show to botched cosmetic surgeries. It’s all so crazy. And let’s be real here a pretty/handsome face only gets you so far, if you are a crappy person it totally ruins your looks. Just like an ok looking person can become really attractive if they have a great personality.

    I have 4 veneers and wasn't told about the fact that they would be filing my teeth down to spikes as part of the process. I took a break half way through the procedure and went to the bathroom. Like an idiot, I looked at what they had done so far. I had an anxiety attack and started sobbing uncontrollably... and they had to come get me out and back to the chair. I kept saying, "I want my teeth back!" I mean, they look great, but knowing that I'll always have to have them because I have nubbins underneath causes me stress.
