- I'm going to introduce to you a top-of-the-line sport luxury vehicle that tries to do everything (and gets most of it right!). This 2001 Mercedes-Benz CL500 is a sight (and sound) to behold. There are more buttons in this thing than is on Air Force One. Then I'm going to get in this car and drive it. Join me!
My CL500 will be coming out of it's winter hibernation in a couple of months and I can't wait to drive it again. It provides a moderately sporty drive with some driver engagement but the emphasise is definitely on luxury and a super smooth ride. The ABC suspension is fundamental to the ride quality of this car so please ignore all those UA-camrs who tout ABC replacement with coilers. They are idiots! One point of contention with your review. The CL500 is not a small car, it is enormous and you need to think ahead about where you are going and parking.
Beautiful sporty car. Timeless design.
I love these. You did miss some of it's best features though. The suspension can't be beat even from a brand new car today. In sport mode there is Zero body roll. The doors and trunk have a soft close feature. You were slamming the doors. You just let the door touch the body of the car and they close the rest of the way by themselves. The glass in it is infrared blocking which keeps the heat out of the car. Side glass has 3 layers, 2 glass 1 plastic to minimize sound. and on and on. I realize this was posted a year ago but had to mention the soft close dooors and the best suspension put in a car to this day. (As long as it doesn't have issues. If it does you can plan on spending some bucks on it) I have one in the garage. Love it.
That’s amazing. I didn’t even realize it’s not really well documented online either.
I’d love a pillarless coupe, especially a CL. I might have been scared off of the airmatic suspension from spending countless hours watching Alex from LSC fight to get his working! They’re lovely when they’re working right though.
Great car. Great review. Video much enjoyed, I am now buying one.
I have an 04 I’m inlove with this car 5.3 V8
Love this review. I have just picked one up thanks to your review it was great ❤❤
No way awesome!!!
@@guys_garage yes sir and love it so much ❤️👍👍
I had a 2000 from 2008 -> 2013, was a fabulous thing when working (lots of electrical gremlins), the double glazed windows stopped one tea leaf from getting in. Boot does open fully - prob a setting set somewhere or double push. One to you totally missed was the ABC suspension (had no issues with mine) - best & most scary feature of these cars & why they are so cheap today... Would love a CL55K at some point before prices got nuts to sit along my XKR X150 - can't have enough supercharged V8s :-)
full open anything is awesome
1:02 Bro really said "its a small car" when it is over 16 feet long (almost 5m) 💀
I had an 05 loved it
I had a CL500 nice car, but if I were to get a Benz from this era with the 500 engine again I'd get the CLK 500 or ditch the V8 and get the SL 350 and stay away from ABC and stick with coils and springs. No Air Matic or ABC Hydraulic suspension for me again thanks, nope..
would you consider abc delet with neomax coils abd vvk swaybar
Hi I have problem with airmatic onesife not going up so you think on sprint will be good coils how much this will cost me and the drive skills is the same
We're going to hear what the torque is like? I can't wait to hear how torque sounds...
Can you also tell me if there is a difference between the pre-facelift V12 and the turbo please?
I have an '01 CL600, a real ooker. But it overheats and won't pass inspection.
Great review buddy
Thank you
What does the little airbag button in center do?
hmm I’m not too sure
Hey man could you share the digital copy of that manual book you showed at 6:52
Good question I don’t have it though
The car designed to carry 4 people comfortably, not 5.
Good catch!
Good morning 😂
Morning!
Known as a Land Yacht...Mercedes made no money from this car, exotic materials to make it light cost too much...suspension was its achilles heel ..otherwise used the S500 engine which was reliable for the 5L model..very comfortable cruser...10yrs ahead of it's time when it came to the market...
10 years wow
Do you still have the car? You should check the cup holder. There's two and one it falls out dude
bummer i don’t have it
Want
CL stands for Coupe LIGHT not Luxury.... :)
That's exactly what I was going to say. It's made out of aluminum. I have a 2006 CL500.
@@sethgt1234 whats with the ABC?
Haha. The mileage is low because it was broken down all the time so the owner was afraid to drive it
Actually the cl500 wasn’t close to the cost of keeping the 600 on the road. If you abc then this will be an issue tandem pump replacement .
"small car". This thing is 5 meters long lol
It could carry 4 people This car, back in 2000 was THE shit. Almost as luxurious and comfortable as a RR, but more dynamic and young. One day she'll be mine. Mercedes "Designo" customization program allowed you to choose marble stone interior trim. You missed and misoperated many things....
Likable twit, didn't cover everything but entertaining none the less
Its a money pit.
It’s not sporty
They are pretty darn sporty to drive!
Its a V8 rear wheel coupe. Borderline muscle luxury if you ask me.
Had to stop the video after a couple mins watching because of the amount of things you said wrong about the car… just triggering.
I'm getting better every time I do these videos. I'm not perfect. Let me know which details and i'll make the edit!
Worst Mercedes ever made. Nice looking but the suspension is the worst for everyday driver
WRONG, Engines start at 3.7 ltrs
We didn't get that engine in the U.S. market until 2006, and it wasn't in the CL, but the w220 S 350 which the U.S. only got for 2006.
@@jonathang6522 In Europe the entry level engine was the 5 litre V8 producing around 306bhp. This demonstrates the target market for the Cl.
