What a car! I'm planning to clean it up and take some great pictures to post for sale. There are a few minor repairs it needs, like a broken front left air strut, new tires and new brakes. Overall, the engine is in perfect condition, and I estimate its value to be around $4,000 to $9,000. I'm considering asking for $5,000 or even $7,000. However, I took it to the Mercedes dealer for advice, and...

Ah, you're from the Bay Area too! I like the East Bay. Anyway, people in general don't take as good of care of their cars as they should. I'm glad you mentioned the bird poop. I do a walkaround of my cars every day to make sure there is no bird poop on them. If I spot any, it's coming off immediately. In fact, I even keep a quick spot cleaning kit in my trunk so that if I'm out and about, I can clean off any bird droppings that happen. One of my cars is a Mazda 3 in soul crystal metallic red and that color is so amazing, I baby the paint on that car to the extreme. I make sure to keep my cars waxed because those UV rays are harsh. In terms of other general maintenance, far too many people fail on that too. I'm meticulous on maintenance. Another thing is that most people don't do their research on cars before buying them. They just buy what looks pretty or whatever they think looks fashionable, or they just walk onto the dealership lot and buy whatever the first car the salesman pushes. I spent a couple months researching cars before deciding on the two Mazda 3s we purchased.

I don't give a crap what my cars look like. Is it mechanically sound, is it safe, is it comfortable, and does the A/C work. Those are my priorities. I think I washed my 22 year old truck 2 years ago, and that was because I got a free car wash card from work. Clear coat is almost all gone, bumps, dings and scrapes all over, some surface rust in spots (I do need to sand that and spray some primer on it), but would hop in and drive across country any time, even with 220,000 miles on it.

A beauty. ABS light: one or more of your 4x speed sensors. $20 sensor. Worst case, ABS pump or/and Module, which is/are less than $800. Suspension: Too many variables, but from the looks of yours, it could be: 1: Leak in the air line between the valve block and strut, or the strut itself is faulty. Looks like your compressor is working since other struts are up and your suspension was set on High when you recorded this video. Strusts are not too expensive and worth replacing to experience the super comfot of W221. Btw, if you love MB, get the DAS diagnosis laptop.

As mentioned, you can't get parts for them, almost impossible, I've seen ONE in the junkyard and it was a total wreck. Mind could use a new fender. btw, let me add the great thing about these cars is the hatch completely opens, so you can fit a full 4ft wide sheet into the back. Can't do that with many smaller cars or even the dodge magnum.

My friend's family has one that they use for commuting and errands, it's a great little car for them. Will get them basically anywhere they need, without the fuel and maintenance costs. Saves them a ton of money. I feel like many people get tripped up in range figures without being realistic about their needs. Similar to people buying trucks or SUVs because they "might" one day need to haul something or carry seven people, but it sits empty 364 days out of the year, just costing them more with no benefit. In the case of electric, larger battery requires more resources to make, producing more emissions in the process, and increases the weight of the car while decreasing its efficiency, when 99% of the time that extra range is unused. 70 miles is more than enough for most people's daily commutes and grocery runs, I'd imagine.

Yeah I also don’t understand why people get so hung up on range. For many people most trips are around their neighbourhood, so 70 miles range would be plenty. It would be more than enough for me…. We’ve considered reducing to a one car family, but a cheap Leaf would be a better option

Am I telling everyone to get 70 mile range hatchbacks? No. Get the car that suits your needs. I'm just correctly stating, because I see it all the time, people going out and buying cars that are more than they'd ever need or use because of "what if" situations. Be realistic is all. If you're gonna need a truck one day a year, just drop $20 at the home depot to rent one instead of having to deal with a worse vehicle year round and being saddled with debt.

@@guys_garage 2013 LEAF new achieved 96 miles of range. Unless you had $80-120k for a Tesla Model S (171-223 mile range at the time, depending on battery size, with a rare 100-mile version available at launch), the next real choice for a pure EV was a LEAF, with the Chevy Volt as an in-between option ($40,000, 40-mile EV range, 300 mile gas+electric range). The 62-mile range Mitsubishi I-MiEV was the cheapest option but was rare, and I found that range surprisingly useful with the I-MiEV being my only car for 4 years. I added a Bolt EV to my fleet to make my longer trips faster by not having to stop and charge as much. The Bolt was the first of the 2nd generation EVs, which increased range by 200-400% over the 1st generation. There were other EVs available such as the BMW i3 (released in 2014) and Ford Focus Electric (2012), but the LEAF led the pack, even outselling Tesla at times until the 2nd-gen EVs landed. As long as the batteries didn't get cooked, the LEAF holds up quite well. I know a few people who still daily drive them.
