    I love this incarnation of the Dragon. Did I enjoy fighting Grigori more? Yes, but this guy his principles his character the more willingness to tell us the truth of things despite our different roles because he believed our will to be great enough to find out the truth. What is your purpose here, Arisen? If you sought to live you had naught but run and hide yourself away. But then, tell me, child of man... what does it mean to live in truth? To wage war against the passing days? To pray to the unseen for a few breaths more? To raise grand cities from stone, and spawn new life in turn? Mankind has done this, yes, and more. But is the tapestry you weave truly of your own design?
    Their kind is easy to fathom, they go on living from simple fear of death. But not mankind. Some welcome the end with arms outstretched, while others come to face death incarnate, arms in hand. I ask again, what is your purpose here Arisen?
    One path to your survival, lies in my defeat. Still my heart, and you stay the coming end. Another path before you... is to offer up that which you hold most dear. Abandon all delusions of control.
    For the price of a single life, I shall leave this land in peace. As my "vanquisher", the duchy would bow to you. Wealth and power are sweet anodyne for heartache. You'll not gainsay my terms are more than generous. If it matters aught, the man who rules this land now won that honor through just such a bargain.
    The decision is yours, Arisen. Now... choose!

    while I think dd1 grigori was better he was more personal to the arisen I do like the vibe of the dd2 dragon who I will call greg while grigori seems to be a happy cog in the cycle thinking of it as a grand task and special right. while greg seems kind of just going through the motions he knows he is a cog he even agrees the cycle sucks on the ride to the final battle. grigori is a dragon who loves his job while greg just kinda does his job.

    • @TheMidWave
      @TheMidWave 2 місяці тому +14

      greg was damn near trying to help you sabotage his job, he's the voice that tells you to embrace death and kill yourself to see the truth in the starting cutscene. If he could have offed himself he would have, he showed up to work with gasoline and matches and the player was an hour late so he had to hide it from his boss.

    • @ananousous
      @ananousous 2 місяці тому +5

    • @TheStraightestWhitest
      @TheStraightestWhitest 2 місяці тому +7

      Well they also serve different roles. Grigori is a classic dragon, one who serves the Seneschal. He is supposed to test you, physically and mentally. So him getting into your head, making you doubt yourself, trying to crush your resolve, is a part of his job just the same as physically fighting you is.
      Greg is different. He's in an unhealthy cycle perpetuated by The Watcher rather than the Seneschal. The reason he does what he does is not to test your will to see if you can replace the current Seneschal, but simply because The Watcher believes cycle = good, and needs every cog of the machine to play its part lest his unnaturally made reality comes undone. He says this aloud in the ending. The Dragon doing battle with the Arisen was a part of the cycle, so it's a part of the one The Watcher made, even if it is no longer necessary. It's a part of the story, so it has to be there. When you think about it, this means that there's no rhyme or reason to Greg's actions anymore, and he seems to be aware of it. All he has is ''We need to play our parts'', or as he puts it: ''We must fullfill our charges. I as the dragon, and thou as the Arisen.'' Because if they do not, the world, and possibly that entire universe, unravels. So instead of constantly testing the Arisen, he instead appears to be making an effort into trying to get them to break it all down. He's hoping that our will is great enough to break through the pre-ordained methods of The Watcher. He's planting the seed in our heads that we can do it, that we should try. He seems tired of it. But as Rothain discovered, nothing truly has free will in The Watcher's cycle. Everything is pre-ordained. That's why the Arisen is built different. His willpower was too great for even The Watcher and his cycle.

    • @Diggge
      @Diggge 2 місяці тому +6

      @TheStraightestWhitest To add context onto this, the reason why it's The Watcher and not the seneschal is because the current seneschal (Rothais) found out that The Watcher existed (he's like the seneschals supervisor) and basically quit his job lol. Because the seneschal wasn't doing his job anymore (this includes making the next dragon) and continuing the cycle the Watcher stepped in. It could very well be that Greg has been doing the same boring job endlessly for who knows how long lol

      For him you were just another Arisen to defeat for a God who was content to keep his power for himself.
      But… all of this you are unaware of it the first time, only getting clues.
      To you, « Royce » is the final adversary, the fulfillment of your quest. -and basically the stereotypical final boss of most heroic fantasy adventure stories.-
      And the music keep that in mind. Having a more traditional orchestral feeling that is in itself EXTREMELY good. -pretty sur this theme will be dissected in the future.-
      It isn’t Grigori theme because it isn’t Grigori you are facing. The fight might be the same, but the underlying plot is completely different.

      As someone who doesn't like the OST in 2 as much as the first game, you are wrong. This is a great track.

      Because this guy isn't the real enemy.
      Also, it's literally better.

      @@TheStraightestWhitest yeah the real enemy is the brine (you learn this in the true end of DD2 and eventually defeat the brine for good at the cost of you and your main pawns lives *and no they wont be returning to the rift they truly die alongside you never to return to rift just obliterated like you are*)
      both you and your pawn are essentially erased from the world completely but with your true deaths the brine is defeated and the cycle broken permanently.

    Y'know, for a game called Dragon's Dogma 2, there's very little dragon or dogma. You don't feel this dragon's presence on the same way you did with Grigori.
    With DD:DA you had people worrying that they'd be charred, you opener with seeing your home town attacked, and you had a whole dragon cult. When Grigori shows up, it's already been mentioned that the cult is making some sort of play. Meanwhile with the new dragon, he just kinda gets summoned...
    Either way, this dragon i do like, just wish we had more of Mr. Dragon Dogma
