Dear Karine, I admire the compassionate presentation you gave about Billie. I stumbled upon her music while living in NYC. Later on, I met jazz musicians who said she sang like her voice was one of the instruments. I would listen to her music, and then cry myself. There was a profound pain that was being expressed. I spoke to a jazz vocalist who said Billie disclosed to her that Billie comtemplated suicide. The hateful health care system was a total disgrace. How could someone like Billie, in those days get medical or mental health care? She might have started drinking alcohol as a pre-teen or a teen to cope with the sexual assault and childhood neglect. I watched another video on the mafia and the narrator said the man Billie was with at the end of her life was a small time hood of the NY mafia. That explains the lack of a conscience. That video wasn't about Billie but about NY and Chicago mobsters. That narrator said mobsters at that time controlled the night clubs, restaurants and hotels since they had the money to finance these establishments. More often than not entertainers unfortunaletly became romantically involved with them.
