I was friends with Rod Beck in the early 2000's. He would be in the bullpen as a Red Sox reliever and was good friends with Wakefield, catching him as he warmed up. When he went home all black and blue, his wife knew what he did that day.
RIP Tim Wakefield 😔🥲🙏 You where my inspiration to teach myself the knuckleball. I was a catcher and my LL and JV said no to me on the mound. The varsity pitching coach was Wakefields former pitching teammate TJ Tucker. I was messing around and throwing knuckleballs back to the pitchers. Coach told me to throw a session when they were done. I threw and he was impressed, my fastball sat around 85,86tops, 75 mph slider, and my knuckleball around 65 he said i could be nasty if i learned how to mix speeds. He did use me that year which unfortunately would he my last. I was the catcher but come to the middle of the game id take the gear off and go to the mound. I did really well and learmed so much on the pitcher side just in this 6 months with coach tucker. Sadly i got hurt and missed my senior year and the opportunities beyond that. I wasnt fully healed until i was almost a sophomore in college. By then i had just lost it, the love of playing the game. Though, anytime i see a knuckleballer, either current or replays it gets my full attention. Im def. one of those baseball 'weirdos' that the 'circus' pitch fit me like a taylored glove.
Also with Hough, the Niekros and Wakefield they were versatile in starting/relieving Hough..61 saves P Niekro..29 saves J Niekro..16 saves Wakefield..22 svs
Should reconsider it with all the Tommy John surgeries going on. And pitch count doesn't matter. if they can even have a 4.50 ERA today, should be a must sign for any team
No Wilbur Wood who won 20 games back to back for the White Sox? No Hoyt Wilhelm? No Eddie Cicotte?
@@dangelo1369 not enough video footage
1:16 It's like he magically yanked the ball away from the batter.
@@lewislambert4590 wicked stuff!

Hoyt Wilhelm.
We wanted to put Hoyt Wilhelm in but it was too difficult to get adequate footage
@@BBUYTTV Fair enough. Good video. Thanks!
@@Varragos Thank you, we appreciate it. Keep an eye out for new content. We post twice a week. Have a great day!
Rip Tim Wakefield I learned to throw a knuckleball just from watching you pitch when I was a kid

Rest in peace Tim Wakefield ❤
Very sad, he was so young.
Dickey was missing a ligament in his arm. He would not have a career without the knuckleball
Also with Hough, the Niekros and Wakefield they were versatile in starting/relieving
Hough..61 saves
P Niekro..29 saves
J Niekro..16 saves
Wakefield..22 svs
I think the lack of stress on their arms helped to make them more versatile.
Dickey didn’t just “decide to throw the knuckleball”. He had to learn to throw it otherwise his career would have been over.
True enough, it was desperation time. Worked out pretty good for him!
@@BBUYTTVAnd he threw it near 80mph, for a knuckleballer that's extremely hard

@@tenfourproductionsllc knuckleballers can pitch forever!
Dude the knuckleball is just the coolest pitch. I’ve been trying to get my 10 year old to throw a good one
We agree. When you see someone in person throw it well, it is amazing. So tough to throw well though!
I don't understand how Hoyt Wilhelm isn't on that list.
@@jonmcclenahan8379 there wasn’t much good video footage available

Wilbur Wood and Charlie Hough are two of the all-time best
Where's Wilbur wood ?
Good question, we just felt the players profiled were more noteworthy. Hoyt Wilhelm was considered as well
Ayooo just found a new channel fr

Not valid - no Charlie Huff?
Charlie Huff is literally the first featured player in the video??
We give Charlie his due in the video, he just didn't make the cut for the thumbnail pic
