Great to see a list that is more personal and appropriate for me. I feel if I did a top ten list half the games most people woudn't be aware of. Your rating of quest for the lost pixel has me very intrigued and I definitely agree with your high rating of Hexplore It series as well. I still yet to play with Klik's Madness but without that the game is still top notch.
That's a list of some awesome games. I have not played all of them but most. My most favorite true solo games are Rogue Dungeon and Iron Helm with Iron Chest. I like these smaller crawler-like games very much. Even when we go for vacation I always have them with me. One disagreement ;-), I don't like Quest for the lost pixel, at least so far. Played two sessions and found it pretty boring. And it was so extremely expensive to send it to Germany. That hurts a bit
Just bought Dungeon Degenerates, waiting for a character expansion in the mail before I start my first campaign. Still waiting for the game that comes along and beats KDM for me
I've finally been getting into board games (not solo, though)! Just bought HeroQuest the other day, had an awesome time playing with my friend. He enjoyed being the GM, for once! Definitely want to play some solo board/card games, thank you for this list!
@TheDungeonDive The free app does a pretty bang-up job at running the game for you these days. It's come a long way since release and covers all the expansions.
@thedungeondive I missed the crowd funding for the new Secrets of the Lost Tomb (and it does not get released until 2026!) Is the OG base game enough if I can find it used?
Great list! Love your original perspective on the tabletop gaming world! What about KDM? I remember it was on par with Dungeon Degenerates as your favorite "Adventure Game", but I could be wrong or maybe it was a long time ago... Do you still enjoy it though? If so, exited for the (FINALLY!) coming of the Gambler Chest! Thanks a lot for your channel and your work!
(1) You mentioned Rogue on Netscape. Rogue is a lot older than that. I played Rogue (version 3.6) for hours and hours in Unix, in 1981-3. Unix came with a software package that made it possible to treat a CRT screen (80 lines of 24 characters) as a graphic canvas, with any character at any location. Rogue was very playable remotely, using a modem at 1200 bits per second. -toby
@Daniel, I agree that they should keep Secrets of the Lost Tomb mostly the same but there are plenty of errata they can address, some font issues in area that at least for me made it difficult to read text and the player boards. They already said the art will be updated. I hope they keep the same cartoon/animation theme but it could use some updating especially the monsters and some of the tiles could use contrast changes. I will be saving up my money for a new copy. Happy to archive the old copy.
Touch of evil is a forever game for me. Its just so good on so many levels. I definitely need to get dungeon degenerates again. I love the art and theme but for some reason i just couldn't get into the rulebook. But much like hexplore it i think a second chance is well warranted

I hadn't heard of most of these before today. I've been looking for a good solo game, so I will look into a few of these. If you haven't done so already, maybe you can do a video on the best affordable solo games. Several of the ones I have looked at range from $150 to $400+ with multiple expansions also costing $80 and up. I'm not going to pursue a board/ card game that costs more than a Triple-A Video game....
Board gaming can be a very expensive hobby, and can't really be compared at all to AAA video games because of economy of scale. It costs nothing to print and deliver a video game, where as a huge amount of the cost of a board game is in the physical components, and the shipping of the very big and heavy thing can be very expensive, especially for smaller publishers who don't get volume discount. They also sell a fraction of the numbers of a AAA video game, so the cost is higher. It can be, unfortunately, an expensive hobby, especially with the kinds of games I tend to cover which are indie and smaller titles that don't have the luxury of large scale production and distribution. AAA video game companies are also some of the most profitable companies in the world, and most of the games I cover are made by super small companies, sometimes only a single person, and so they don't get the benefit are large financial investments. So yeah, very hard to compare the two economically. However, I do have a whole playlist dedicated to smaller box games that pack a great thematic punch, and 99.9% of everything I cover here is from the solo perspective! ua-cam.com/play/PLKewgRd8Eir_888eCDZrnXxiFNough6Vr.html&si=H9DQPs3n-WsEJ5z5
@@TheDungeonDiveoh, I understand that they are quite different. I was referring more to my personal enjoyment of the game. The experience of a video game is usually worth $80-ish for me, particularly if it's a longer game. I can't imagine even the most enjoyable board game feeling like a good value (to me) at $400 unless I play it daily for a year or more. I will check out your other stuff, though, for sure. One of the games I am considering is One-Deck Dungeon, and I have heard that Fallout is pretty decent, though I have no idea how replayable it is.
I've played some table top games for many, many decades, so it's totally possible to get a ton of value out them. Most thematic board games cost about $100 these days, and that can provide 20-40 hours of first-time experiences for 1-4 people (how much would it cost for 1-4 people to go see 10-20 movies? A lot more than $100!), and then you can get into all the replay value of experiencing the same stuff with different combinations of players, characters, loot, encounters, set ups, etc. You also get amazing tangible things that can be held and admired, touched, pushed, flicked, etc. :) Also, most of these are being made by super small teams of people, and not some giant tech corporations. So there's a lot to be said about the value of table top games. Some people like One Deck Dungeon, I am not one of them. :) Most people don't really like the Fallout Game, but I like it. However, if you're looking a post-apocalyptic adventure game go straight to the best and get Fallen Land 2nd Edition, which just hit. Talk about replay value! It's like Skyrim meets Fallout on your table top. You could play that game every week for years and never, ever, ever see the same combination of encounters. It's insane. I have videos for Fallout and Fallen Land.
I am not. I just bought the expansion during the last sell. I don’t need another whole big box. I’ll just have a compete original game as my Sleeping Gods.
Interesting list, Machina Arcana is a beast, love the game. The art and atmosphere are great. What about Kingdom Death : Monster, This war of mine, Arkham Horror the card game, Etherfields or Robinson Crusoe? Ever played this games solo? Have fun ...
Just wondering where league of dungeoneers would be for you, I am looking into getting into LoD but would love your take on it with in your top 10 picks (where it would land)
Not sure, just not in my top 10. I have hours of super detailed coverage on the channel (an entire playlist), so I should provide enough info for you to make a good decision. ua-cam.com/play/PLKewgRd8Eir80bswKq-32TeEXsSArvrXY.html&si=xEaeQkr2lCQckBPH
@@TheDungeonDive ty for the reply😊 unthinking might jump into shadows of brimstone then😅 I ordered the all-in for the lost temple so that should set me up quite nicely. Just looking for a RPG experience in a “box” format without a GM/DM
I believe I just managed to get the all-in for the first KS of SOB for the original price back in 2014/15🤗 I’ll believe it when I pick it up this coming Sunday morning😊 any tips as to where to start?
I like this title page. I'm sure it's been done, but I would like to see the situation reversed, with the Dragon on a mount slaying a Knight (St George).
I do really want to get Quest for the Lost Pixel and Rogue Dungeon. I also am wanting Adventure Realms. I was going to get it during the crowd sale, but it ended earlier than the date posted so I didn’t get a chance to get it. I own Secrets of the Lost Tomb, but I have a feeling I won’t get it to the table with how complex the rules seem to be. Is Quest for the Lost Pixel worth the price point though for the base game? It’s $150 which I think is kind of steep. If it was half of that, I’d be all in. Also, could you recommend something similar to Quest for the Lost Pixel in digital form?
Surprised to see Sleeping Gods at #9! Did your group experience with it cause it to drop in your estimation, or were you just prioritizing games you can more easily pull out and play for this list?
Great list. SOTLT is one of my faves too. My stack of tiles and the encounter deck are insane if you have most of the expansions! I agree that it might lose its charm with better art and I probably wont back it coz it would cost me the earth to replace everything but I certainly would go for it if I was the creator. I watched ‘Solo Gamers Club’ play it recently. He made lots of mistakes and paid dearly. Most notably he never applied his outnumber bonus in fights! I wanted to help him but he’s turned comments off ☹.
@@TheDungeonDive Totally understandable. Never seen anyone being nasty to you but I can believe it. Its a shame us decent folk don’t have a badge we can flash or something…
As someone who loves this style (theme wise) of games but really can't stand fully random rogue like games and far prefers authored scenario content, I would love to hear some of your favorites in that style...
I do like Machina, but. It still Irks me somewhat that me as well as others put our money into this game to get the last expansion produced. Then at the last min at delivery our pledges were cancelled. Because we questioned the position taken on Tax changes. Not cool given we were all returning backers.
When I play it proper, I actually really like SoB with other people, so we can share all the work. Same as games like WHQ 95 and Darklight. It's too much for solo play with everything.
@@TheDungeonDive ahh that makes a lot of sense. I love the game as well but I stopped playing it solo because of the same reasons, I just play it with friends now.
@@TheDungeonDive ahhh, that explains it 😊 you brought me into D100 and I play a massive worldbuilder game with the adventurers companion implemented. So all my main quests on the map follow the campaign quests of book 3. massiv fun! I love it
It's really important to know that Rogue Dungeon isn't available on The Game Crafter, so there's absolutely no way to get it. As per their website, "The designer has designated this game as 'not for sale' at the present time." Pretty horrible, if you ask me. No reason was given as to why.

I am not. I just bought the expansion during the last sell. I don’t need another whole big box. I’ll just have a compete original game as my Sleeping Gods.
A great list, Daniel. I was surprised there was no Shadows of Brimstone.
When playing it proper, it's too much work for solo for me.
That's fair.
Oh man ! I’ll be in the US soon, I’ll definitely look for Rogue Dungeon
Just late pledge on KS. No need to be in the US.
@@TheDungeonDive thanks Daniel !, I misunderstood 😅
Interesting list, Machina Arcana is a beast, love the game. The art and atmosphere are great. What about Kingdom Death : Monster, This war of mine, Arkham Horror the card game, Etherfields or Robinson Crusoe? Ever played this games solo? Have fun ...
Yep! I like a few of those. I have extensive coverage of a few of them on the channel.

@@TheDungeonDive ty for the reply😊 unthinking might jump into shadows of brimstone then😅 I ordered the all-in for the lost temple so that should set me up quite nicely. Just looking for a RPG experience in a “box” format without a GM/DM
I believe I just managed to get the all-in for the first KS of SOB for the original price back in 2014/15🤗 I’ll believe it when I pick it up this coming Sunday morning😊 any tips as to where to start?
fantastic list ❤
Thanks! 😊
Adventure Realms Crowd Sale was moved to August 1st-7th
I thourougly enjoyed this. Completely agree on mini rouge, Iron helm and I backed the kickstarter for rogue dungeon :)
Dungeon Degenerates has a cool punk style I like, might buy that only to look at it lol
The best thing is that it’s not just a style. It’s a legit punk game made by people deep in the scene and art tradition.
@@TheDungeonDive badass! no wonder the art looks legit, all the art looks so damn cool, Im definitely going to get this.
I would put LoTR Lcg on this list. Absolutely love it solo.
I'm not a big fan of LCGs, but I know a lot of people like them, and it looks great for those who do! I don't like meta gaming, deck building.
what do you think of the FFG arkham horror series ? it is soloable witth 2 or 3 invesstigators
Love them all, except for the living card game. And yes.
which story or novel series would you like to see turned into a board game?
I've got a whole video on the subject.

Surprised to see Sleeping Gods at #9! Did your group experience with it cause it to drop in your estimation, or were you just prioritizing games you can more easily pull out and play for this list?
Nope. Still a brilliant game that I love. I just gravitate more towards smaller simpler games these days.
Enjoyed his playthroughs as well, really frustrating to have his comments turned off (really don’t know why people do that 🤷🏻♂️).

Because a lot of people are shitty and leave nasty comments. I think of turning mine off all the time. They cause a lot of stress and frustration.
Sleeping Gods.
Is your cap product placement? / your sponsor?
No. Lol. I have no sponsors. Just a bar my brother in law owned years ago and a hat I like. I always wear hats.
should I get secrets of the lost tomb 2edition or first in your opinion : )
I’d wait to see what the new version is gonna to offer.
@@TheDungeonDive Good advise !! Will do !
can you do a top 10 short stories :)
That would be covered on my book channel - www.youtube.com/@allfictionisfantasy
Would love to hear a short list of games that just didn’t make the list!
It would just be the other games in my top 50.
I do like Machina, but. It still Irks me somewhat that me as well as others put our money into this game to get the last expansion produced. Then at the last min at delivery our pledges were cancelled. Because we questioned the position taken on Tax changes. Not cool given we were all returning backers.
Usually play with 5 degenerates, but that's just me and my friends 😂 great list
I am not surprise to see Secrets of the lost Tomb, but I was also expecting : Warhammer Quest, D 100 dongeon, Shadows of Brimstone....
Subverting expectations!
I'm surprised you didn't include Shadows of Brimstone here! Awesome list nonetheless!
There are approximately 278 games I didn't include. :)
@@TheDungeonDive yeah of course, I just really thought SoB was among your top 10 easily, haha
I prefer Tin Helm.
It's great!
I thought D100 dungeon would be on your top 10 😃
I don’t consider it a board or card game.
I was also keeping a lookout for 4AD or D100. Makes sense now
@@TheDungeonDive ahhh, that explains it 😊 you brought me into D100 and I play a massive worldbuilder game with the adventurers companion implemented. So all my main quests on the map follow the campaign quests of book 3. massiv fun! I love it
GRACIAS & GRACIOUSLY GRACIOUS ‼️🧩♟🎲🫵🏻👍🏻
Interesting, too bad the games from top 5 can't be bought if you don't live in the US
#1 will be hitting crowdfunding in September of 2023, and should be available to everyone!
Nethack not Netscape. Netscape is the old web browser!!
Lol. Keeping track of my mistakes is a full time job, and it doesn’t pay a thing!
@@TheDungeonDive Doesn't pay? Then I quit! I guess I'll just watch and enjoy instead!
Give up while you still can. There isn’t enough time to catalog then all. ;)
It's really important to know that Rogue Dungeon isn't available on The Game Crafter, so there's absolutely no way to get it. As per their website, "The designer has designated this game as 'not for sale' at the present time." Pretty horrible, if you ask me. No reason was given as to why.
It’s in KS. Just had a successful crowd fund and you can pre-order the new version.
