From teen heartthrob to sought-after songwriter, Teddy Geiger confronts her truth

- In his first year of being nominated, singer Shawn Mendes' song "In My Blood" is up for Song of the Year in the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It's also the first Grammy nomination for one of his co-writers, former teen-pop-star-turned-producer Teddy Geiger. Geiger has worked with a number of big names, but Mendes remains one of her closest collaborators. Vladimir Duthiers spoke to Geiger about her journey ahead of the Grammy Awards.

Whoever struggles to see beyond her being able to be herself and having the courage to come out is what is wrong the world. Everybody should be allowed to be who they are with no hate or judgement. JK K we were taught that men and women are different aka not the same. So, people can disagree that opinions about Geiger being a woman. Like being feminine doesn’t necessarily make one a woman, you see what I’m saying?

Thank you Molly for such an uplifting reply. I am not sure whether there is any point in arguing with those that seek to tear everybody down. This woman is living her life as she chooses to live it. She is doing nobody else any harm and has brought light, music and happiness to millions of us. Who are we to decide whether she is allowed to be herself. Only she can decide that.

It’s so strange that this wasn’t talked about more. Teddy was my heartthrob in middle school. It’s been eye opening to realize I fell for a glimpse of a fake person. Just the way she carries herself now seems so much more confident and pure. ❤️

It’s not that it’s “gone” per se, but when you’re in a highly stressful environment, your symptoms can be aggressively worse. (In her case, it was living with her assigned birth gender). They can drastically improve when the stress decreases, which for her, would be coming out
She didn’t say her OCD went away, she said her tendencies, which likely means her worst symptoms. She probably has some behavioral compulsions that still exist, but they’re probably nowhere near as ugly as what she used to deal with

I always loved Teddy's music but wondered what happened, bc I never heard more music. Then i found out about her transition and was so happy for her.
Such a talent that was being hidden when it deserves to in the light. I have no clue what it feels like to go through her journey, but that it finally led to honest happiness for her is so wonderful.
A career well deserving of all the honor possible. Truly love her work.

I was always affected by Teddy as a musician. I think she is even more attractive a person now, then she was back in the early 2000's, because now you see such joy in everything she does. I was crushing on her in 2006 and am still crushing on her now. What a beautiful person 😍

I'm so happy that Teddy is back in the light, I've missed her and her music. "These Walls" is one of my favorite songs from when I was growing up. I'm SO happy that she still does music and has been supported and loved through her transition, as EVERYONE does!

She had an old (pre-transition) song called You Stole My Heart that was my absolute jam as a child, imagine my surprise when i see her being out and thriving, she's radiating.
For You I Will was my jam back in the day. Had no idea she was also behind so many of my more recent favourites and had no idea she was trans until today. So glad she's doing well. If she's happy, I'm happy.

Just goes to show you never know what a person is going through, or what a person is thinking or feeling. I just started watching Schitt's Creek and through an internet blackhole (clicking on the actor that plays Stevie), stumbled upon Teddy Geiger (which I was not expecting). Like, "hmm I recognize that name. I'm pretty sure he was like on MTV when I was 12, 13"..."wait whoa Teddy Geiger came out as transgender?" Was not expecting that. Watching this video was extremely eye-opening and moving and gave me the background amd insight to make sense of it. It's just pretty bewildering to watch the music video of "For You I Will (Confidence)" which stars Kristen Cavallari lmfbo. Like wow. Never could have guessed. But I'm happy she is living authentically. She has an incredible story.

I don't know how I did not know that Teddy is now a gorgeous woman. I am so incredibly proud of her for LIVING in her TRUTH and I love her even for me.
