Yes, I agree with everyone else - before you start a new project, change the needle, fill up three or four bobbins and clean the machine and oil. I love this demonstration. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤👍from Somerset UK
It is looking great! I can't wait to see how you put it together. You could pull your bobbin thread up like you do on tbe longarm or when FMQ and you won't get nests.
Take a light spray of sizing on the backing fabric. Place the batting on your pressing surface first and then your backing fabric and press. The sizing really helps hold your sandwich together. Only do 4-5 blocks at a time
I always check my bobbin and wind one if needed. I then make sure that I have enough thread. I usually don’t have a third check. Your blocks are looking great.
This looks like so much fun to make and love that it is already quilted when you finish. You are such a good teacher. I think I will try and make this project with some of my millions of scraps. Thank you so much for your generous tutorial.
Great video with tips about making the quilt as you go scrappy blocks. Trimming threads, measuring the quarter inch, and fabric random selection. This type of project causes a lot of lint under bobbin. Should start with new needle and cleaning first. But I don't always do it. 😊
Change your needle, wind several bobbins, clean dust from machine and I typically have to straighten up the area around my machine because I tend to get a little messy laying things around.😊
Back in the early 1980's, many of us tried to follow the directions (in a magazine) for making a Log Cabin Quilt using this method. I have never forgotten the look on my friend's face when she showed me the quilt on her little girl's bed. Her mother had made the quilt; but, she did not catch enough of the fabric in most of the seams to hold it all together. The top of the quilt was coming apart on the bed. I never knew what become of that quilt. As for the one I was making, I took it apart; and, I made my quilt the traditional way (which is the hard way).
Thank you for this quilt along and video. I will try to join along. I have a lot of projects I’m trying to finish but doing this type of block has been on my list to do;)
Love it! If you always seem to struggle with seams that are too large, and blocks, that are too small, you could start with a 5 " square for the center, instead of a 4.5" square. That way, you should always end up with a large enough block to trim down to 12", and not have batting showing around any of the edges. su
Super easy, love easy❤ 3 things.. hmm ok for me #1 clean my machine, #2 pick your thread and fill at least 3 bobbins, #3 determine if a new needle is needed.
I can see how easy it is to use strips when quilting as you go. Could you also use this method when using other cuts of fabric other than strips (ie half square triangles, etc)?
Im thinking scrappy sll the way. Start with same size center then sdd scrap strips around till each square finished. Cut ends to fit. So much less measuring. So much less time.
Before starting a project, start with a new needle, full bobbin and clean the machine. Haven’t done a QAYG project before and may give this a try. A question on the first strip added-why wouldn’t this be precut to 4 1/2” to match the square? Thank you for your videos.
Can you make your videos savable? I have to go back so many times to make any block and I love to save them in my library for fast retrieval. Thank you!
Three things to do before a new project - Clean out the lint, change the needle, fill the bobbin. Quick question - would it work to cut the strips to the correct length before sewing them down?
Why can't you just just measure the length of each strip as you add it instead of trimming them as you've stitched. You know the first strip is 4.5 x 2.5., then measure your next length needed after you iron it.
1 clean our machine
2 replace needle
3 oil your machine
Love this block so simple thank you Sherry. From a beautiful day 30c down under.❤
💯

Now why didn’t I think of that? 🤦🏼♀️😅
This method looks fun. I'm going to get going on this quilt. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hope you enjoy it!
Your light is really reflecting on your fabric.😊
I really tried to fix that 🤦🏼♀️ I am not a professional videographer, I just play one on UA-cam 🤣
Some days thread just add to the joy of making things. This is very easy to follow ❤

Great tip!
Good job, Sheri! This is a pretty block! I have not made a quilt as you go quilt, but I want to try it. I like the big blocks!
Please do!
I think I'll try this, it looks fun and easy.
I always check my bobbin and wind one if needed. I then make sure that I have enough thread. I usually don’t have a third check. Your blocks are looking great.
And clean machine
Great tutorial for quilt as you go to use up your scraps, like working with scraps
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Sheri! Looks like a relaxing sew.

You can do it!
Before each new project I clean/dust out the bobbin case area, use a new full bobbin, and change the needle 😊
💯
New needle,wind bobbins, clean machine😊

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the tips!
I used a nearly new flannel sheet, no fear with ironing.

Haha! I think we’ve all seen some like that 😂
I am making my first scrap quilt this year. Yours is the one! Can’t wait to start. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for being there
Wonderful!
Well you should check bobbin but I use it up. I don’t want low bobbins hanging around. I’m not sure yet but this is way I did my potato chip quilt.
I don’t like low bobbins around either
Hi. I’m a new subscriber. I am planning on joining this quilt along. You explain everything very well. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for subbing! I hope you enjoy the quilt along!
I clean my bobbin case, change my needle and wind more bobbins.
💯
Thank you for this quilt along and video. I will try to join along. I have a lot of projects I’m trying to finish but doing this type of block has been on my list to do;)
Oh I hope you can fit it in!
Change the needle, house keeping of the bobbin case, thread enough bobbins to possibly complete the project.
💯

Yes! It is a very versatile block
Love your videos and tutorials
Glad you like them!

New needle, clean out bobbin case, and wind some bobbins to help you save time.❤
💯
Clean and oil the machine, change the needle, and fill some bobbins are three things I like to do before starting a new project!
💯
Looking forward to learning how to join the blocks!
Great video - thanks Sheri!!!!
You are so welcome!
Going yo be a fun project. Thanks!
Great video, thanks sis!
❤️
You are a great teacher. Thank you!
Thank you! 😊
Very nice! Love using up scraps.
Me too!
For the beginning “knotting” stitch, you can set your stitch length to 0 and take a few stitches in place.
Great tip!
Great instructions ty Sheri
I can see how easy it is to use strips when quilting as you go. Could you also use this method when using other cuts of fabric other than strips (ie half square triangles, etc)?
I don’t see why not, as long as they’ll fit the previous strip or block
New bobbin, new needle, and clean the bobbin area.
💯
Im thinking scrappy sll the way. Start with same size center then sdd scrap strips around till each square finished. Cut ends to fit. So much less measuring. So much less time.
When you fold over your fabric to cut, slide your scissors in the fold and you will get a straight cut.
I always get a curve when I do that 🫤

💯 You can precut all the strips if you desire. It will just take a bit more time
Can you make your videos savable? I have to go back so many times to make any block and I love to save them in my library for fast retrieval. Thank you!
The save button is on the same line as the thumbs up
3 things I do are clean my machine, change the needle and make sure I have my bobbins prepared.
💯
Clean Machine,Change Needle, Wind Bobbins, Oil if needed and test to get oil out of sewing area
💯
Three things I do
Clean my machine
Run some bobbins so I don’t need to stop
Check my 1/4 in stitch
And change needle
Clean machine, change needle and wind some bobbins before you start a new project
💯
Change needle, clean machine, and wind bobbins. QUESTION- is the 4 1/2” x 12” for the back? Thank you!
💯 The 4 1/2 is folded in half and used on the top
Three things to do before a new project - Clean out the lint, change the needle, fill the bobbin. Quick question - would it work to cut the strips to the correct length before sewing them down?
💯 you can! I didn’t just to make things very simple as I pulled strips from the bin.
Completely love that ruler that you’re using. I have tried to find another but it seems they are sold out. Have you found where to buy more ?
I haven’t tried to find more
Get bobbins prepped, change needle and check settings on machine
And clean it
Clean and oil, fill several bobbins, change your needle.
💯
Clean out bobbin area, change needle, and fill bobbins
💯
Fill your boo in, new needle and clean lint out of boo in area
💯
Love your shirt! Did you make it?
No, it was from a FB ad, came from Italy, took forever and ended up being polyester. Not great quality but it is soft and comfortable.
Are we trimming finished block to 12”?
Yes
What kind of sewing table are you using?
Laverne from Arrow
Change needle. Clean your machine and oil if required check bobbin
💯
Clean oil and change the needle.
clean out the bobbin area, new needle, full bobbin
💯
Clean it, new needle and have bobbins ready.
💯
Clean machine, change needle and make a lot of bobbins.
💯
Clean it. Change the needle and oil it if it requires you to oil it.
And fill a new bobbin or two
I guess the third thing is to pull your thread to the back before sewing
That’s a good one 😄
Clean your machine, wind a couple of bobbins, and change your needle.😂😂😂😂
💯
Put a pin where you want to stop
Clean your machine, wind bobbins, change the needle
💯
Why can't you just just measure the length of each strip as you add it instead of trimming them as you've stitched. You know the first strip is 4.5 x 2.5., then measure your next length needed after you iron it.
You can, it just adds the step of measuring when it’s not necessary.
A new needle and check your bobbin. Don’t know the third thing
And clean machine
Clean your machine, new needle and fill 3 bobbbins
💯
I would say you should always wind some bobbins 🧵 🤣 Change your needle and check your tension before you start sewing.
And clean your machine
