Korey's statement at 3:05 should have told everyone what they needed to know. That is proof of coercion to me. This story is insane. What happened to them is horrible to say the least. God bless these men and their families.

I'm black myself and I'm saddened by this but to have 20/20 in hindsight is easy. Unless you have done time I'm sure you have seen stories of a crime being committed and thinkin like oh this person needs to go away forever especially if you just see a story that says someone admitted they did it, I hear that shit all time but I'm just saying as much of bs this is , it's hard to judge someone going thru something when you know exactly how it played out

She doesn't remember what happened. So i think she's relying on the police and the prosecutors to fill in the gaps. She said they treated her with dignity and respect etc... so I dont think she wants to believe they could be terrible

She doesn't know what happened. I can't take her feelings seriouly because she was told more than one person did it for 20 years and she saw those boys as the ones that did it.. she just wants to hold on to that, even though its a lie.

Agree 100, corey saying in the tape that the detective was in his face arguing at him yelling at him and hitting him and not one of them including the judge said ok lets stop this something is wrong here. This kid is being abused by law enforcement to correct his first statement. They interview him a second time and all of these so adults allowed this mess to go forward. The kid is telling this lady the officer is beating him she never said anything. Damn.

Take some time and do some research and study the facts of the case and not what you learned from watching a fabricated Netflix movie. Those 5 boys were absolutely 100% guilty.. they still are guilty and it is an absolute disgrace that they are running to every camera they can find to make money off of what they did that night. I've actually worked to help free young black and brown who have been wrongfully incarcerated.. @Robert Mack Trisha Meili lost 80% of her blood yet none of the exonerated 5 had any blood on them. The timeline didn't match up for them to be in that area. The actual rapist had committed rapes before and after the Central Park jogger without any accomplices. DNA points to Matias Reyes and only Matias Reyes.
I don't blame Donald Trump, a private citizen at the time, but I absolutely blame the judicial system. We all need to learn and grow from this.

    • @rng414
      @rng414 5 років тому +10

@Robert Mack They should only be considered guilty if there is no reasonable doubt, and in this case there is plenty reasonable doubt that they committed any crimes. If they had touched or kicked the victim there would have been blood on them. The ground was saturated with blood. Head wounds bleed a lot. And based on the timeline of the other crimes there's no way that group would have been near the crime scene at the time of the attack.
If you listen to the exonerated 5's confessions they had so many details wrong.
When the actual perpetrator confessed he was able to give information that even the police didn't know at that time. His confession made sense with the evidence, whereas the exonerated 5's confessions did not.
None of the other victims from that night identified the exonerated 5 as their attackers. They may witnessed the other attacks in central park, but there is no evidence that they committed any crimes.

Robert Mack Those boys never seen that woman before. The rape occurred in a different section of Central Park far away from where the 30+ kids were hanging out. I don’t know any 5 men who don’t know one another, who would get together with other unknown random guys and just rape a random woman or commit any crime. Those boys had never met each other before they were arrested. Yusuf & Korey were the only 2 who knew one another. They were 14-15 yr olds doin what kids do at that age. U sound like a racist sayin they should have been home. I see white boys hanging out all the time at night, up to no good, doin dirt. So miss me with that BS Robert. Those 5 boys had nothing to do with the rape or neither did they beat up bikers or joggers. They just happen to be in the park while all that shit was goin on. Those prosecutors & dirty cops need to serve a long time in prison now.

When they said people didnt believe false confessions were a thing, i have a problem with that. Since the beginning of time insane/mentally ill people have confessed to many things they didnt do. Like Jon Bonnet Ramsey case. There was atleast 2 confessions that i remember hearing about if not more at the time and over the years. All false. And since the beginning of time kids and teens have told stories, bragged, exaggerated the truth. So even though this was before the days of law & order and constant court tv the parents, the cops, the media, and the jurors should of had reasonable doubt. I find it so hard to believe that this case went through so many people and no one in power took a stand and said this is wrong. There is so much blame to go around.

How was it not addressed, when Korey stated in the tape..."when the detective came at me hitting me and yelling"... it's like the lawyers, jurors, prosecutors, judge and the whole world just over looked the truth when it was stated??? Korey tells the story in his so called confession!. No evidence, no DNA, RNA from unknown person, inconsistencies in the tapes, the prosecution case add up to innocent. The defenses case of coercion with Korey stating he was beat, with the interviewer not inquiring adds up to their telling the truth! My God you'd have to be a moron to come to any other conclusion.. Not Guity, and arrest all who were involved in the prosecution and charge them with of their crimes.

I think people forget that Trisha has no memory of her attack and she was left with horrific injuries. She has stated that the detectives/police were very helpful and respectful towards her. She has an unconscious bias towards police being an upper middle class white woman. I'm sure it's also difficult for her, having to rely on police to tell her how she was assaulted, and in their eyes by these 5 kids. But to then also have that proven false and be told that it wasn't them but 1 kid who has done this to others and killed a woman. That's a lot of trauma to work through and maybe she doesn't want to believe it.

Why must there be dna? Lots of crimes are solved with unidentified or no dna. They were convicted because they admitted to many illegal acts, others incriminated them, and they incriminated each other. There were dozens of witnesses with a lot of ramifications and nuanced information that was damaging to their case. Some of it is stunning, even after coming to know who Matias Reyes was. There is nothing simple about this case, despite many who pretend otherwise.

Man, the way this withholds the info about the serial rapist and murderer confessing to this crime makes it seem as if they did it. That they took part in it.
I had to Google it to find that out after watching this.
A serial rapist and murderer already doing life in prison confessed to it.
The only semen found in her and on her clothes was matched to him.
These kids obviously had nothing to do with it, but check out how they were all coerced into confessing to something egregious that, it turns out, they didn't do.
When I saw those confession tapes I was pretty convinced they had taken part in it. But after hearing about the rapist confessing and his DNA matching it's pretty obvious they didn't have anything to do with it at all.

The West Memphis Three case has a lot of similarities to this. The police had no physical evidence, the confession of a guy with a low IQ whose statements did not match what happened and changed a number of times and the police were totally leading him the whole time! Sadly, they spent half of their lives in prison and only got out by taking an Alford plea which of course they didn't want to do. You know you didn't do it but you can't get justice so you do what you have to do to get out. If you get stubborn and dishonest police, judges and people in the community you are guilty if they say you are all evidence to the contrary. Which is disgusting because their job is to catch criminals and put them away. The community should want the right person/persons to be caught for justice and so they know they are not in danger from that person/persons. That gives a false sense of safety and "justice" and ruins the lives of innocent kids. It's sickening that we have people who work in law enforcement who are racist, sexist, classist etc. that do not care about actually solving a crime and getting the actual perpetrator! They just want to pin it on someone and young kids are much easier to do that to. They are not actually doing their job well and if it was the performance of other working people we'd be fired. If they are not doing their job and trying to coerce confessions then they are not fir for that job and should be fired!! They are NEVER held accountable for their actions.

Corey's youth was ripped away from him his enduring things grown men should not endure. Why did they interview her? Thier all part of the problem. The officer's, the prosecuter's, the judge and juror's. The media didn't want the truth they wanted to crucify poor minority children because they are dispensible in thier eyes. If those types of confession's were solicited from young white men without representation, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. I still can't believe this tragedy took place, such horrible i justice. No amount of money can replace what they lost. It just blows my mind.

The victim shouldn't have been able to testify or show her pictures. That had no significance to if they did it or not. And Korey wasn't even an original suspect of the crime on the list of names from the kids in the park! They also weren't even aware that some woman was beaten and raped in the park that night. And has it ever occurred to you that maybe there were more kids in the park than the ones mugging people??? Just like Matias Reyes was in the park... He wasn't a part of a group of teens. He was just in the park picking out his next victim, just like he had done two nights prior! Not everyone in the park was a mugging teenager. The five were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But if they recovered semen-DNA in a rape case and it didn't match any of the accused then shouldn't that have been a clue that these kids were making a false confessions? They shouldn't have even brought them to trail and keep investigating. Couldn't they see that the guy kept adding and changing his story when they give him clues about the details of the assault?

Honestly i dont feel bad for the jogger. She kinda deserved it 🚶. She isnt even Acknowledging their innocence. DISGUSTING! Plus she knew that they were coerced. The jogger was even coerced they told her what to say smh its DISGUSTING that we have ppl like that, that can live happy lives on this world knowing the truth 😤

She didn't deserve to be raped, beaten, and left for dead. Sure, her inability to realize what truly happened to her is a bit frustrated from our perspective. But what happened to her was horrendous! We can't overlook her trauma because those men were wrongfully convicted. This case had MANY victims!
