For some reason ppl keep saying things like “well they are animals.” Ok. That still has nothing to do w/my point. Honestly I think it's great what he's trying to do with solitary confinement. I also understand the issues people have with it. It's a very fine line both ways. But it does make sense to try to give people hope and rehabilitation. I know what isolation does to my mental health so I can't imagine if I was someone that struggled with aggression and anger by using violence and having someone lock me up in solitary confinement with those type of thoughts and not having any kind of Hope or help. Some nonviolent crimes: robbery, burglary, vehicle theft, fraud, vandalism, arson, theft, DUI, to name a few. Should all those go free because they didn't assault or kill somebody? What would our society be then?
They DO! Only the most violent who cannot be managed in a room with others go to solitary confinement. I taught at Florida State Prison, which was all solitary because they are the worst and most violent in the state, and also at Union Correctional Inst., the non-violent who had jobs and worked on the prison farms and played basketball and came to class (29 male inmates and me). They are always separated by levels of behavior. The guys in solitary have to be. They are so out of control that they attack other inmates and staff. Some of the correctional officers shouldn’t be wearing those uniforms, when I was 19 years old I was arrested for a suspended license on a cracked windshield which had it replaced. But the court clerk never removed it from the system. I was arrested during holiday weekend. I was told by the corrections officer to pick up my mattress and blankets to place on the bunk outside the cells. The officer said that I was too slow so he going to teach me a lesson by locking me up in a solitary cell for the whole four days. What made me hates the court even more was, during an arraignment I showed the judge the receipt and she asked me why am I I’m her court wasting her time. I was still in handcuffs and in Orange jail suit. I was so upset I told the female judge perhaps I enjoy watching her humiliating me. I said I wrongly jailed thrown in a solitary confinement for four days and she’s asked me what am I doing in her court room. So I told her this is how you get people in the systems a vicious cycle that drives people to go out and do bad things because of the corrupt government. Yeah but it can be an effective tool for preventing violence in the first place. I don’t think it should be as common as it is, but for the people who act like animals, give them the animalistic punishment. Lock em up in a cage alone. I don’t think any animals should be treated that way just to let anyone know but people that act like wild animals should be
We need more people like this man, to help society instead of destroying it.

Some nonviolent crimes: robbery, burglary, vehicle theft, fraud, vandalism, arson, theft, DUI, to name a few. Should all those go free because they didn't assault or kill somebody? What would our society be then?
Kathy Young
No. They should go to a different jail that doesn't require 23 hours of solitary confinement a day. Hell, no one should go through that.
Often this is temporary and they can work their way back to regular prison. Some are always violent and will kill anybody they can. Emphasis everywhere is on rehab.
Why is the video titled “MOST VIOLENT INMATES” when they literally said 57% are in there for non violent offenses 🤡
They were put in the box because they fought in the prison.
That just means that all the most violent ones are there at that prison and the rest of the country’s violent inmates are put in other prisons

I’m 50 years old now and I’m still upset and bitter about the experienced I went through. I enlisted in the US Army served 12 years with honorable discharges. Owning several businesses because I promised myself to never let another human being ruin my life again because I didn’t know the laws or the money to hire an attorney.
They sent Korey Wise there when he was only 16 years 😭💔💔 , he had to grow up there too , damnn he didn't deserve it

Korey Wise didn't deserve none of this but our President thought they should be on death row! For nothing this is pitiful.
You should read the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It really puts this world in perspective and how disgusting and cruel this world is. Its honestly the best book I have ever read. A lot of stories about this same thing happening to other kids. My mother was a juvenile counselor in Los Angeles and she would come home crying all the time knowing what was happening to kids as young as 7!!!

What most of the people in these comments dont understand is that Rikers is a primarily a holding jail pending trial.
