It's true he should not have told his son to lie, but notice he told him to lie AFTER talking to the police. The police might have lied to the father and told the father that his son could go home if he admitted to it. It is possible that the father may have been so terrified for his son that he told him to lie, thinking it would get him out of there and get him a plea deal or some kind of lighter sentence.
@@sparrowsknow8491 two things: 1. Trump (just like Farstein), never backtracked or apologized. Even in 2016, when asked, he continued to insist that he wasn't in the wrong and that he still thinks the 5 boys were guilty in some way. 2. More importantly: Trump's story is quite different from the, say, white women who were say out there picketing calling for justice or something. THAT is understandable. Trump spent an exorbitant amount of money taking out full page ads calling for these boys to be hanged...and this is important: WEEKS BEFORE THE TRIAL. The first of Trumps ads happened only 2 weeks after the arrest, long before the boys were on trial or actually convicted. Not to mention the case was always fairly flimsy, something you MUST take care to note when calling for death penalty. You can take back sending someone to prison, you CANNOT take back a death. EVEN if you believe that Trump was in the right to publicly call for execution of criminals (let's not go into a debate about the ethics of capital punishment): the fact of the matter is, he did so LONG before anyone had any right to "be sure of the boys' criminality", in any way. And even AFTER they were exonerated, decades after - he continues to double down on this and insist that he did nothing wrong, he won't apologize to these 5 men, and that he still believes they are guilty somehow (a position shared by Farstein, to this day, who still insists that nothing wrong was ever done).
Tj H there is still compelling evidence against them. They brought up “not raping the woman” before the police had even found her. Why would they say that? The closing statements of the prosecution said that they knew there were other people involved in the actual rape that they weren’t able to find. Reyes was that person(s). The boys were not actually convicted of raping, but that they were complicit because they held her down and assaulted her. There’s still more to the story.
Episode 4 that focused on Korey was so tough to watch. He went through so much and still made it out with his life. May God continue to bless all 5 of them 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I cried so much watching his part. Can’t believe he literally had no support from his family, and his mom barely called or visited and he still made it through. What a strong character.
You see the pain on these gentlemen's face. No amount of 💰 can erase the pain they've endured. Their story must be told over, and over again. Otherwise there's no justice. It's JUST- US...
Whats sad is that their story has a redeeming quality to it. There are a lot of the same instances that happened in america like the scottsboro boys, or black wall street, where a lot of innocent young black men lost their life. And countless others that you wont hear unless you visit a local african American Museum. I did and took my son to one in texas, too many stories where they just killed anyone black, because of an alleged rape or even just a cat call. SMH.

I remember the first time I was selected to be a juror on a civil case (not criminal) and I took my role seriously. When we finally had to sit down as a jury to discuss the case...I was the only one that sided with the person that brought the suit on...I remember one of the jurors said to everyone he was ready to go home so we should just agree on a side so he could leave....at that point I realize the legal system was broken...if this was a civil case...I can only imagine a criminal case being handled by inpatient jurors who just want to get on with their lives without considering the damage they may inflict with a bad judgment. Great mini series Netflix!!!!!!! Emmy award bound!!!!
Walter Castillo I completely understand you. I sat on a criminal trial and we all felt that the defendant was guilty but the evidence wasn't there to support it. There was one juror there who didn't even want to examine the evidence. She just kept saying I feel like he's guilty. We finally got her to listen to the evidence and she came around. We found the man not guilty based on the evidence. We found out after the trial that just about every bit of information that we said was missing was information that was not admissable. If we had it we would have convicted. I don't feel bad about that because I rather free an guilty person when all the pieces aren't there versus jailing an innocent person just because I fee like they did it and not based on evidence.

hepwo91222 they were all forced to make up their stories and confess to a crime they did NOT commit! there’s a reason why ALL of their stories conflicted with each other. there’s a reason why none of their DNA was found at the crime scene. come on now, you really believe a group of 14-16 year olds who never got into trouble with the law before and did not know each other (except for Korey and Yussef) banded together to beat and rape a woman?
Denise it i think it was more of a wrong place wrong time situation. Race could’ve played a role in this case, but I don’t think that was the main reason. only three times? Kudos because my emotions went from sad, angry to betrayed, and it wasn't even an experience I been through. IMAGINE what these guys endured.
Well some the reason is they could not afford bail or refused to plead guilty to a crime they didn't commit. No such thing as Justice when we have for profit prisons. Too much incentive for greedy soulless creatures. I am saddened that I am just learning how much is made by prison labor.
And that’s why Korey served so long because he had an opportunity to meet about his case a few times while he was locked up, eventually he began not even showing up because they wanted him to confess and he wouldn’t do that. He stayed true to who he was. :(
mike kelly At the time in 1989 Donald said the death penalty should come back in the five boys should get it for raping the jogger ,watch the movie 🙏🏽pace & love my brother
@mike kelly neither were all the investigators, police officers, prosecutors, lawyers, the jury, journalists, all the press and TV, as well as all the other who were in some way involved in this malicious prosecution of innocent boys and all other people who believed they were guilty at the time.....so what is your point?? I don't like Trump at all, but he was just one of many who fell for lies from media madness. I think the police officers, investigators and the jury is to blame and should held responsible and called out much more than Trump
The news piece does not need to mention Trump. If they had then every Trumo supported would be on defense saying that the story was not accurate and that it was bias ect/ fake news. That would make it political. Its not about Trump. Its about these men being innocent and that is all needs to be said. That in and of itsself makes Donald Trump look like the (blank) person that he is. You fill in the blank with whatever you see fit. On a personal note, its completely possible that he might have even been involved with these guys being convicted. If he could pay Russia to help him be elected then it would be nothing to pay Authories to convict 5 black boys of rape all so that he can look good and sell more property. Some might ask how would that help him? Easy, Well if you are trying to attract and sell NY property to rich people from all over the World, you dont't want them to see your city as dangerous with a gang of rapist running free. So wouldnt it be simple to colaborate with authirites to frame someone with the crime to give the appreance that the crime is solved and allowing you to keep selling properties? Not far fetched at all. People come up with illaborate schemes everyday especially when their money or the thought of loosing it ( or not making it) is involved.
@@NatJac-gg3mv I agree. It is not about him. It about these remarkable men and everything they went through because of corrupted system, so their experience would never been forgotten and it would never happened again (sorry my English is not so good)
The sad truth is, if the real killer didn't come forward these boys would have died in prison. This is so upsetting and frustrating and says a lot about our justice system.
Chris B try to think outside the box. The DNA and fingerprints didn’t match any of the boys. Also the timeline doesn’t fit. When it comes to serial offenders they rarely targeted people outside their race. When a woman is raped the authorities have to assume possibility of the unsub being the same race as them. Serial killers and rapists like the Baton Rouge killer, Gary Heidnik, and the Milwaukee cannibal don’t follow the unusual pattern for example but like I said it’s more rare then you think. The BSU should have had gone over what the delusional prosecutor and detectives missed. That being the way Trish Meli’s attack was very opportunistic and was done in a very brutal manner without any hesitation. That indicates it was done by a offender with at least a little bit of experience. Reyes had a little practice before Meli which made it easier to attack her. None of the Central Park five had a criminal background meaning they wouldn’t have been capable of handling that crime because it would be too hard for any of them to do it in a comfortable and non-hesitant behavior. If the BSU created a profile they would tell the country that they don’t fit it.

Never forget the role Donald Trump played. Keep that in mind when you go to vote next time.
Trump wanted to hang 5 rapists; he's earned my vote
@@reek4062 he wanted to hang five innocent boys who were wrongly convicted of rape
Deborah Bakare how did he know they were wrongly convicted ? Did he prosecute them? No, he believed they were just like the rest of the country did.
@@sparrowsknow8491 two things:

Exactly!
What do you expect? Corporate funded media at its finest.
Even the father thought he did it
I didn't see this yet and the fact that they left out that OBVIOUS part of the story tells you all you need to know about how this story was whitewashed to protect that POS in the white house. Shameful!!!!!
@@helene420 how is it white washed
This show in Netflix made me cry at least 3 times, can't believe this really happened to these guys. Till today we still have innocent people locked up for no reason
only three times? Kudos because my emotions went from sad, angry to betrayed, and it wasn't even an experience I been through. IMAGINE what these guys endured.
I couldn't watch it. I tried, but couldn't make it pass the first episode.
Joseph in the Bible was wrongly accused.
They will receive their punishment in the afterlife 🙏🏾
Marianne Herland anyone who was involved with their prosecution included donald trump.
This destroyed a father son relationship.
kelly Goodman NO THE WEAK COWARDLY FATHER DID THAT ON HIS OWN. HE THREW HIS SON UNDER THE BUS. His son was more mature and had more courage
@W Towns ???
@W Towns Stop it, he gave up on his own son....sILly WaBbit😵.
Nah it was destroyed before that..no father that loved his child would do their kid that way..he had no unconditional love smh!
@W Towns Exactly reminds me of what they did too George Stinny and his parents were treated the same way his father was treated.
Donald Trump isn't mentioned. come on cbs
mike kelly At the time in 1989 Donald said the death penalty should come back in the five boys should get it for raping the jogger ,watch the movie 🙏🏽pace & love my brother
I think the police officers, investigators and the jury is to blame and should held responsible and called out much more than Trump
mike kelly donald trump put 85,000 towards these boys to get death penalty, he’s absolutely disgusting.

Lynn Taylor Justice and America are competing ideals.
Yeah but there is no justice, just us

Ohh God...I cried my eyes out when watching this movie. Life is really a mystery... nobody knows his tomorrow...
The sad truth is, if the real killer didn't come forward these boys would have died in prison. This is so upsetting and frustrating and says a lot about our justice system.
Not our justice system, but their system, we had no part in putting this system together
Korey was the only 1 still in prison for that when the guy confessed.
They had to blame someone..anyone. all the detectives, lawyers & prosecutors should be called out by name. They boys were robbed of their lives.
the boys robbed their own lives by raping her
@@reek4062 Yeah those rapists shouldn't have got released.
@@chrisb7528 they're in heaven now
Reek My guy why are you so obsessed???
