When i got this game 10 years ago on christmas i thought it was lame at first then it was amazing once i started playing and looked on the back cover lol.
I have so much nostalgia for this game, I started playing when I was like 6 and Jesus Christ it was hard, that’s probably where I get my love for dark souls
@@cleveram226 I'm the exact same! Been trying to remember what this game was called and had to type fantasy game where you start on a beach and go into a cave to find it 😆 I've actually spent years trying to figure this out! The game was hard I got pretty far in first few levels but would get lost and the creatures gave me intense anxiety as a child
HOLY SHIT HE'S PLAYING IT This was my very first Fromsoft game I played back in the day on PS2. It's not great, but the music is FANTASTIC. The theme when you arrive at the village is incredible.
Weird Gothic meets Dark cloud vibes from this one. Great music. It's crazy how far games have come in 19 years. There are times where I have a hard time discerning reality from fiction these days.
Personally I didn't like this as much as KF4. That game was a masterpiece in my mind. KF4 was one of those games where you replay every year. Oh... I haven't played it in six months... I wanna play it again!
I'm just glad they fixed the control scheme for this game. Back on the Ps2 if you happened to have a third party controller, the game would refuse to let you use the analog sticks, making you use a secondary control scheme that sucks.
I think this might be my first time realizing that i owned a fromsoft game when i was a kid,and this was the first one ive had,but i never played, but i did however try it and it was amazing
I've been searching for this game for so many years now! I played only a little bit a long time ago and the only thing I remember was the epic soundtrack. Never even knew it was a FromSoft game!
Yes! I've wanted you to play this game since I started watching your streams like 6 years ago or something. It's such a Hidden Gem I really hope you enjoy playing it.
1:33:35 That's basically Guts vs Mozgus when Mozgus transforms into his Apostle form. I also think that Fromsoft got inspiration for Manus from this guy (Manus doesn't have wings but he has those growths from his head that look like wings and of course he's has those ink-like dark textures because of the abyss).
Came here after watching Dark Cloud and your chat is telling you to try Dark Cloud lol. got there 2 years later. Hooked on this game once you started combining rings.
The visuals of the game and the monster design with the unsettling music I think was scary for most of us as kids 😆 I couldn't work up the courage to keep going 😀
My sister and I were just talking about our childhood and we brought this game up. I loved this game and she would watch me play it. I had no idea it was a Fromsoft game though, back then I didn't care about game developers (I was in like elementary school)
I remember playing a cracked version of this on my cousin’s chipped PS2. I quickly became frustrated with the melee combat in first person and so swapped it out for Jak and Daxter at the first opportunity I got.
Guy goes to island. That's definitely a sort of spiritual successor to King's Field. This has a great soundtrack. The first one when you get in the cave reminds me of Symphony of the Night.
Very much enjoyed, proper Nostalgia trip. Played this when I was 12, my first non Final Fantasy RPG. Loved the ring crafting system, first time I'd really seen much like it before, with so much freedom. It's been years now, so hardly spoilers...but gems are split into attack/defence types (water earth and light are defensive/ Fire, wind and dark are attack). Gems put on right determine if the ring is attack based or defence based. Gems on the left is the type aka fire wind earth water light dark. Attribute rings are created much more randomly, and you can make the same ring a multitude of different ways. Also going for rings of all gems one type can make some very powerful ones (especially if they are attack gems i.e fire wind dark). Lol also, much as I wish it were different, don't waste too much time looking for hidden secrets...there are legitimately only a few worth your time, and they aren't that hidden (aka the bonus dungeon at the start you almost walked into... forgot it is locked until after you beat the end boss, otherwise that would have been a "lesson learned" lol 😆. The best you'll find is additional magic rings, which although useful towards the start, once your about half way through they start becoming pretty meaningless, unless your a completionist looking to get every ring...and even then there are later mobs which you can farm them from. Don't forget this was a PS2 release game from 2000...bonus content wasn't even much of a thing back then lol Also...you can wake that dragon up...you just need a higher level spell with more range...and it goes ballistic and kills you unless you run out of thr area lol 😜
So glad I found this! I had this game as a kid but something was wrong with my disk so I never got past a couple hours of gameplay before it would crash. Can’t wait to see what I never got to.
9:23 and 9:26 okay those sounds are definitely the sounds that the Snake Men from Dark Souls 1 make when they hiss at you (also when they do that crazy jump attack). Fromsoft re-using content since day 1, lol.
What are the odds that this video was posted on the superbowl and I am for the first time watching it ON The superbowl two years later by pure luck. 🤣🤣🤣 I absolutely love this game and the music in it.
2:41:44 Powerful undead mage after a dragon? Basically a Dragon Priest from Skyrim (of course I know this came out way before Skyrim but I couldn't help but mention that). Edit: They're more like Liches from Oblivion (because iirc they can't be damaged by normal weapons). Liches were op in Oblivion though because even with a weapon that could damage them (silver weapons, daedric weapons, or enchanted weapons) they were tanky and pretty resistant to most kinds of magic.
Oh, man. I absolutely love this game and the Kings Field games, but I know I'm relatively alone because critics panned this game. Super happy to see someone like Lobos playing it! Also BRING KINGS FIELD TO PS4 SONY YOU COWARDS.
From the compatibility list on the PS4 dev wiki it looks like King's Field IV at least doesn't work properly with Sony's PS2 emulator so it wouldn't be as easy as just uploading it to the PSN store.

Kings field then shadow tower and then this as far as I know. But I like this way more than shadow tower so we can always pretend this was before it anyways 🤣
Is the camera movement mapped to the right analog stick in this PS4 version? The camera on the triggers is the only thing keeping me from playing these old Fromsoft games.
Literally the reason I dislike this game to this day. I only had a bunch of hand-me-down third party controllers after my stepsister ruined the one the Ps2 came with, and it didn't let you use the control scheme with camera movement on the analog stick with a third party controller.
@@TotallyCluelessGamer As Jerry Batsford said, the PS4 version let's you use analog camera control, and it works very well. I also went ahead and created a custom button mapping in the accessibility options of my PS4 so that weapon and spell attacks are mapped to L1 and R1 instead of Triangle and Square, so you can move the camera as you attack.
