You can see that smile when they asked him if there has been talk about a spinoff.... A capt Pike series, you know there has been talk. Scrap section 31 and do a Pike Series, he has 10 years left before he gets stuck in that chair.

The irony is that the big stink many fanboys made about 'canon' is now making a Pike/Spock spin off almost impossible. I don't get the big deal about canon anyway. People act like they OWN the show because they recall every tidbit from various series and films. So Spock's sister was never mentioned in TOS, TOS was not a 24/7 chronicle of Spock's life. It wasn't Big Brother Enterprise' Why can't the fans 'assume' Spock mentioned it to Kirk during their down time when they were not discussing anything important? I think that is entirely plausible. How many or your current workmates do not know about your entire family?
A Pike/Spock series would mean neither Pike or Spock could be killed, seriously hurt, lost, put in danger or permanently altered in any appreciable way. ( same with number 1 if she is included) So, what will we have battles that mean nothing; drama that is no longer dramatic; plots that will have huge holes when we already know nothing serious will happen to some characters.....all because we have some fans want to dictate their wishes to the professionals. The show is FICTION not a HISTORICAL document. What ever happened to " a willing suspension of disbelief" Broad strokes yes, but allow the creative staff to add layers, add complexities that perhaps were NOT there before...make things better!
We can all admit how much better Captain Mount's Pike is compared to his TOS pilot's version. That's not the actors' doing or fault. Full credit to Mount, but DSC's Pike came off as good, heroic, considerate, in command , noble etc etc BECAUSE he was well written and directed. He was placed in situations that allowed him able to show these characteristics. I like Captain Kirk as much as the next fan but Kirk was NEVER given the opportunity to display the range Mount's Pike was! My point is that when something is done again after 50 plus years, you would expect there to be lots of improvement. Insisting rigidly on strict canon is VERY short sighted imho.
