A 440 three quarter ton crew cab. Sweet. My great uncle had a crew cab dually 75 with buckets seats, no back seats and a 360. I like these old school dodge trucks. 😊
That's a real nice truck for its age. The engine sounds really healthy too. I just love the blurble of a stock 440. Yep she's a driver. Hell that rear end could whine for years with no problem. Keep up the good work!
Engine looks so familiar my friend bought a 1977 Dodge W100 440 new. For lack of changing oil he threw a rod through the block at 63k miles. I got a killer deal on it and replaced the 440 with a 68 383 I rebuilt,
I had a 75 Club cab 200 with the 440 to haul dirt bike stuff and pull a travel trailer. Fantastic truck; hauled all the stuff up the Grapevine grade at 65. Of course, you couldn't talk below a scream because the Thermoquad was in full flush mode - Ba-WAAAAA!
We had to run with the heater on when pulling 10K# up a grade in ours to keep it cool.......that didn't really keep it cool either. Sounded AWESOME THOUGH.
Who swaps in a stock Cummins? I LOVE 440s but a slightly built Cummins will out-torque one all day long. NOT saying this truck NEEDS a Cummins.......does need 4wd though......mostly for looks....it would actually be an INFERIOR daily driver where it lives, as a 4x4 BUT it would look WAY better.
Ive got a 78 D200 single cab, adventurer, looks just like that one. It's a 400, auto. I really enjoy driving it! I did your re curve trick to the distributor so I could get a little more initial timing. It's better but it still doesn't like much over 10° initial. Thanks for another great video!
Nice! Generally speaking, I wouldn’t get excited with the extra advance in a truck. When you’re hauling weight, the worry of detonation is a lot more present. Thanks!
Haven't read all comments but years ago when I rebuilt my chargers 440 the AVS accelerator check valve/needle was stuck from setting dry for a year or so. Even a bad plunger should spray enough to pedal it to life. But stuck needle stopped all flow.
Hello from Australia. Nice watching you fool around like you have no idea what you are doing. However we know you totally aware of every move you make and the expected result.. interesting and entertaining as always....
Was supposed drive that way when this was for sale. Trip got postponed till after turkey day. Don’t think I’m ready for school bus life. Still love it though.
She's a very THICC girl, but honestly I'd take her home if I could. A big block tin grill crew cab with the "fancy toolbox" is one of my bucket list items (right after fixing up my Demon). Not quite a crew cab, but my Gramps had an old 73 club cab that was his "farm and firewood" truck. Grams made his junk it when the hole in the floorboard got too big. Miss that truck, he never seemed to have any real problems with it, that 318 just chugged along
I'm all for leaving the 440 in that truck! With some mods! I drive an 02 Cummins and love it,but I miss my old 440s! You're 440 is a boutique anchor. Build it back to the 67 to 69 Chrysler new Yorker specks and you will have a truck!
Actually the ‘73 version swapped in this truck, despite a lower compression ratio than the late 60s version, is still rated for a respectable 275 HP net. I think it will do the job well.
Love those old trucks. I going to ask for some advice on a 3.6 pentastar. you told me to look for coolent under intake when I was looking for my Jeep Rubicon. Well I found it. Not much but I'm ordering the new oil cooler. I think I should get the Dorman and will order it tomorrow. but I also found look a like oil coolers online for $55-80 (pice is to good to me) I just want you to tell a old guy to buy Dorman and that money well spent. Thank you for all your hard work.
Great video. That's a really cool truck especially with the 440. Defimitely my favorite generation of Dodge trucks. I'd almost bet this was some kind of forest service of some kind of fleet truck back in the day.
Definitely not the typical forest service colors, but yeah, they bought a lot of them. I’m not sure what fleet or government agency would go for the adventurer package with the extra dress up stuff though.
In 1980 I went to my local Doge dealer and came this close to buying a 1977 black on black extended cab 1/2 ton loaded with every conceivable option plus a 440 with 18000 miles on her. It wouldn't start it had some problem which drained the battery. I walked away from her. It was the nicest Dodge truck I've ever seen.
Love that truck. Good color combo. Needs a '93 interior though. never cared for the pre 1981 style dash. And of course, a Cummins and lockup automatic. If only I had the necessary $100,000 to spend to have one built.
I started the video thinking maybe we'd be watching another ramp truck build!! On a fun note, many years ago, I worked on one like this with a very strange noise in it. Customer called and tried to make the sound over the phone. The smart ass that I am, I asked her to repeat it over and over.. lol.. Anyway, she dropped the truck off to me over the weekend. Monday morning I took the truck for a very chilly ride and the truck made zero noise that I could hear. I even drove it a few times as I needed to pick up some parts from the local Pontiac dealer, and still no noise.. A little after noon I received a call from my customer. She had just woken up, ( B-shift at Kodak ), and asked what the noise was. I told her I couldn't get it to make any odd noises. So she came later that afternoon and picked up the truck. Shortly after, she returned and asked me if I needed hearing aides. I got in the passenger seat and off we went.. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. I heard it plain as day. It was literally water sloshing back and forth when getting on the gas or brakes.. You see, it was winter in Rochester, NY. and the water in the roof was frozen when I drove it and once the sun was on it, well, water!!!!! Now I don't remember if that was a Dodge or a Ford, but I do know it was a camper special and rott box....
@@DeadDodgeGarage Honestly, you are far better off with a full crew cab and at least an 18' bed. The only real issues this length causes is parking and getting parked. The parking part you have to figure out, but the use of additional cable and pulleys makes getting dead dodges a lot easier to get onto the bed.. The big thing is the long distance ride.. It is far superior to a short wheelbase and/or too much weight to the back side of the axle. Hell, in the short few years I have been watching your channel, I have seen you make some LONGGG drives hauling!!!!!
A proud and noble beast - and that 440 is just bonus. Tom's loss. 🙂 BTW, the 440 in my '68 does the same thing if it sits more than a few days - the fuel evaporates right out of the carburetor, which means lots of cranking to fill things back up. In 1974 i worked for a RV sales and pulling rvs from northern Indiana to west central Indiana with a 73 dualy chevy with a 454. Another dealer that i ran with a lot, had a 71 dualy dodge. that chevy wouldn't come close to that dodge until we saw a gas station! Thevy pulling a 30ft trailer would make 12 to 13 mph and the dodge would make about 8 on a good day!
Wow. The 454 powered 80s square body dually work truck I drove for years got about 9 MPG always, loaded or otherwise. The late 90s truck that replaced it, with the fancy EFI equipped 454… 11? Something like that.
I had a very hard time watching this episode....the cats would not quit playing with my phone. Lol. Awesome truck. In the dark the wheels look painted to match. I like that.
Traildusters. Horribly crusty and diseased Traildusters… have you seen my Ramcharger and Trailduster videos? They were quite popular. People love those trucks.
We had a Dodge crew cab at the NAVCOMTRANSFAC (Navy communications transmitter facility in English) I was stationed at in Spain in the 80s. A complete stripper model painted refrigerator white. It dwarfed everything on the road 😂.
It’s got a 440, no need for an engine swap. A low cost rebuild will get you 500 ftlbs of torque. It would be a horrible thing if you tore it apart for an engine swap instead of keeping that 440.
Well, on the plus side it's got a SHINY cap on the brake master and looks like a rebuilt carb from during my lifetime! Although, I'm over 60 now. She still looks like a saver though, hopefully...
Looks like Dodge engineers failed there Crew cab modification, that thing's got a lot of rust in it. Which really sucks. Looking forward to seeing all the progress on this truck. That is the same era as mine. Yaa
They are long and so is my mega cab but i think these are longer. Some carb work and its a runner for all seasons. What a big ox though. Parking would be fun. Dont even think about parallel parking 😂. I will be interested on the dana rebuild or fix. You may want to check so see if the yoke nut backed off. Its a thing. Not sure why but quiet under load but let off and they whine. No idea why they do that it makes no sense. Nice truck none the less. Should get a whopping 10mpg down hill with a tail wind 😂
10MPG sounds optimistic. Haha. Mega cabs were all short beds so this should be similar or slightly longer. It’s longer than my ‘03. I will definitely check the pinion nut.
I have a '74 440 forged crank truck motor, stock. It and the divorced NP 205 and 435 4 speed were in a '75 W-300. 4:88 Dana 60 and 70. I've often wondered if it came that way, or was swapped in. The truck is gone, the drivetrain is in my '75 Ramcharger. One other thing weird about that truck is that the rear leaf spring eyes had MUCH larger bolt in them Those are in my '91.5 Cummins W-250 now.
That tachometer looks ridiculous mounted above the dash. On my '78 power wagon I installed a Sun tach on the right of the instrument cluster by removing the right "flap" and cut a circle, inserted the tach and with a piece of foam and a hose clamp to hold it in place it ended up looking stock.
I want it! My grandpa had a green one he bought from some forestry company it was green on green on green can't remember what was under the hood think it was a 318 thing was a dog but great memories going fishing in it off Manitoulin Island with him and my cousins.
US Forest Service had a ton of Dodge trucks, crew cabs and single cabs alike. I’ve owned a very nice, rust free ‘84 short bed in the mint green color from them. Incidentally, the vast majority were two wheel drive.
Hopefully soon energy & fuel cost come back down . I'm in KC and kinda high gas so Oregon/ Washington area gas I can't imagine. Ur newer car makes more sense
Man, I was going to drop my spare 440 into that brown high top van that was sitting around here forever. Just never quite got to it and then it finally sold.
Never was a big fan of the crew cab trucks. Not even the newer ones. Never owned one, don't think I ever will. Love the standard cab short bed truck. We are not a big family, thus the reason. Have seen an early 90's shortbed with a Cummings.
I don’t ever want a single cab again. I dislike the one I have. There is absolutely zero usable storage space for trips - and it’s even worse when you don’t have a regular bed.
Wipers work wow who did you pay off for that to happen. Cant wait to spend all my monies on the 440 for the charger. I think 512 with the lightened crank and a flat tappet cam is the way to go rev a bit higher than roller cams for much less
In light of recent events with in top goverment policy could this the beginning of a rush to buy up 440s V10s and alike? Love that truck Dad had one the same color club cab small block 300K miles one rebuild.
I’d like to see a diagram explaining that. My understanding is that the air horn inlet should be connected to the vapor system. That sounded and acted like a large vacuum leak, and eliminating that connection completely solved the tuning issues on this engine. So… I won’t be putting it back.
You turn the right screw in🎶 You turn the right screw out 🎶 You turn the right screw in and check for the squirt🎶 You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s about 🎶 You turn the left screw in 🎶You turn left screw out 🎶 You turn the left screw in and you check for vacuum leaks🎶…
Just rub it in my face. I love crew cabs. But I have an '80 Clubcab Powerwagon. 360, 4 spd, and I believe the only options this came with are dual tanks and cargo lamp. Owned since 2002, believe Rancho lift, according to the shocks, but it has a school bus worth of rear leaf springs.
NONE of MY 440's ever squealed. But then all of them had dual belts, and NEW belts. Because ALL belts will give out eventually, so as soon as I get a vehicle, I ALWAYS change the belts and hoses.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I've owned 7 New Yorkers, 2 300's [both of those being 68 year models], 1 Coronet Custom, 1 Dodge Ramcharger, and still own one 413 powered Dodge motorhome. Never had belt squeal issues. Maybe I'm just better at this.
What the hell is with the squealing belts on mopars. I always thought it was my ineptitude with those engines. Any time it gets a bit damp, the belts squeal, learned to ignore the noise,,, but always questioned it.
Why didn’t I just have Jamie do this at Rocket like 6 months ago? Thing is mint now.
Ye snootheth, ye looseth. 🙂
Pretty much that. Lol.
The sound of an idling 440 is like an e major on a well seasoned dreadnought. Full, rich and just the right amount of punch.

Yeah that’s why I have that. Gas has already come down, like, 80 cents a gallon here. I have no complaints
This would be an 'ALMOST' Dead Dodge for Jamie's Garage
I need a damned crew cab so bad that it hurts. All I want is a clean cab lol.
Good luck… I’ve never seen one lol. They all have roof rust.
Cool truck, it must be dodgelandia up there sweet.
Something like that. Haha.
If some of that cab cancer could go into remission to go along with it's new DDG tune, it could be the subject of a new song :-)
The exhaust is now a work of art. Leave it hmm ?
Nvrmnd
YEEHAW! The Cowboy Limo is here!
I primed an old dodge truck carb with hair spray a waitress had , Adventurer ain't the word for it .
😅
Hold it… is that black underwear hanging from the shift lever? 😂😂😂😂
No it’s an old mask. Lol.
Always wanted a van or p u with a B/RB.😊
Man, I was going to drop my spare 440 into that brown high top van that was sitting around here forever. Just never quite got to it and then it finally sold.
Potential is staring us right in the face.
I like it!👍❤️
Never was a big fan of the crew cab trucks.
@DeadDodgeGarage I still watch your show every Sunday. Keep up the good work.
Wipers work wow who did you pay off for that to happen.
Cant wait to spend all my monies on the 440 for the charger. I think 512 with the lightened crank and a flat tappet cam is the way to go rev a bit higher than roller cams for much less
Don’t worry, it won’t be long now until the wiper linkage bushings fall apart
Good afternoon,,,,,,,,,, Yeee Yeee
In light of recent events with in top goverment policy could this the beginning of a rush to buy up 440s V10s and alike? Love that truck Dad had one the same color club cab small block 300K miles one rebuild.
It’s like no one noticed that gas already came way down at the end of October, beginning of November. Anyway, I digress
What you thought was an incorrect ‘vacuum leak’ between the air horn the choke, is actually supposed to be there.
I’d like to see a diagram explaining that. My understanding is that the air horn inlet should be connected to the vapor system. That sounded and acted like a large vacuum leak, and eliminating that connection completely solved the tuning issues on this engine. So… I won’t be putting it back.
You turn the right screw in🎶 You turn the right screw out 🎶 You turn the right screw in and check for the squirt🎶
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s about 🎶
You turn the left screw in 🎶You turn left screw out 🎶 You turn the left screw in and you check for vacuum leaks🎶…
I apologize profusely. Haha.
I think it would fit on the ramp truck, maybe have to squeeze it a tiny bit.
Noooo way… and way too heavy
NONE of MY 440's ever squealed.
But then all of them had dual belts, and NEW belts.
Because ALL belts will give out eventually, so as soon as I get a vehicle, I ALWAYS change the belts and hoses.
New belts, old belts, two belts, tight belts… I’m pretty sure I’ve never met a 440 that didn’t squeal.
Kinda bummed I didn't get to see those weird dance moves involved in the starting process lol.
I apologize profusely 😅
What the hell is with the squealing belts on mopars. I always thought it was my ineptitude with those engines.
Any time it gets a bit damp, the belts squeal, learned to ignore the noise,,, but always questioned it.
That’s just… part of it.
