I was going to say that, Warframe also added a couple of new enemies on yesterday’s update, crazy how a new faction was added just a few months ago and it is being expanded, seems like Bungie is the one being mismanaged as both Arrow Head and Digital Extremes are tiny studios compared to them. 🤦🏻♂️
Ngl, no new enemy faction is probably why I'm barely excited for TFS. A new enemy to fight thematically would be huge, I don't care if they might feel similar I just want something new thats not a reskin with a single gimmick.

As a vet of the first game, I can not stress how hard these assholes were. Unless you cheesed it with mechs and specific weapons, they were the hardest race by far. I am both excited and terrified to see these guys again because they'll make Malevelon Creek look like a kids' playground. We aren't ready for the squids
Illuminates were annoying at times, but the Cyborgs were absolutely the hardest faction at the highest difficulty. Once you got used to the flipped controls and started equipping stratagems like the personal dome shield backpack, the Illuminate's lethality was in line with the bugs. Cyborgs were just a chore to fight. Almost every war I participated in that Super Earth won, they were the last faction left on the war map... if they add those forsaken dogs to HD2, I might just lose it lol
@@bojkashapirax6283 I guess it was just down to playstyle. Cyborgs for me you can just overpower with mechs and heavy weapons. Sure they could one shot you and the Seige Mech was and still is a scary boss. (NOT looking forward to its return in HD2) But just pew pew them better than they pew pew you and you're golden. The squids on the other hand you always had to constantly be on the move because of their confusion attacks or lightning attacks or melee charges. but you also had to keep the pressure on most of them because of their sheilds. Otherwise you were wasting ammo. For me your team had to be on point most of the fight because once one of you died it was a domino effect. But My playstyle is of a caveman. Hit it hard before they hit you. Squids felt like you were playing DDR having to dip and dive half of their attacks so to me I was out of my element.

The squids (if they keep it the same as they did in the first game) is by far a different enemy that I bet most of the new helldivers aren't use to. Having to actually pay attention to the ground to dodge attacks. I mean they had to nerf the meteor showers because of that.
@blbprime11 Given the new combat system, if the Illuminate are at all similar in playstyle, they will be very difficult. Think the main reason I never really minded them was due to the 2D nature of HD1. Given 360 degree vision, you could always see what was going on during battle and account for control-flipping attacks before you were affected by them. The other advantage was how much easier it was to aim in general, allowing you to quickly adapt. Being in third person, aiming will be rough with flipping controls and reduced vision will mean you can be flipped without warning

The renders of the Illuminate feels... less technologic? It looks like after the defeat of the first game, they became space nomads, no longer the great civilization they once were. They feel like a religious sect like monks, with wraps on their limbs. I bet they still have powers, but its differences in design from the first game gave me that impression.
The illuminates in the first game are the scouts of their galactic empire. We never truly fought them at large. The illuminates we'll fight in HD2 might be another scout party.
Not just the Clanks but the bug front is pretty stable, too. It feels... Too easy.... J.O.E.L is 100% about to flip the script with the Illuminates opening a new front down South. (Edit) I mean I was half correct I guess lol
The dispatches coming with the latest Major order could be understood as indicating a massive automaton horde waiting just outside of the galaxy. Question is, what will happen first: Iluminates appearing, massive Automaton reinforcements, Terminids running out of control again (completely unrelated to the TCS, of course)...
@@christophvogel1080 I think a major content update for Bots will come first, like a major campaign against their push for Cyberstan. After we win that event, Illuminates might be next. The bug front is a fluke anyway, we just fight them for oil and not really in a real war with them.
One thing I'm surprised no one is talking about is the Cyborg faction from Helldivers 1. The Devs stated on release that these aren't the Automatons, and one of the voice lines from Service Technician Thomasson specifically references both the automatons and the cyborgs working in the mines :O
The Cyborgs got ensla- I mean, they are paying reparations after they were defeated during the Siege of Cyberstan at the end of the First Galactic War.
The illuminate are without a doubt coming! There’s been multiple times now while playing against the termini’s or automatons, I get shot by a blue streak or laser and turn to see my assailant with no one there. Super excited for this new enemy addition whenever it does happen!
@@DrassysWorldIf someone hits armor with an arc projectile then it bounces off and arcs over to the nearest target, and sometimes that is us, be careful with when and where you shoot.
The Illuminate definitely are only interested in getting revenge on Superearth, I imagine the bots would be fine farming the bugs, but the illuminate may purposefully mutate the bugs to make them even stronger, and arm the bots with better weaponry. The illuminate want us DEAD and nothing else. The bots want to free cyberstan and the cyborgs, the bugs are just fighting back because if they don't they'll keep getting farmed for their blood, the illuminate are just here to fuck us over for driving them out of the galaxy.

Literally everyone is looking past the biggest and most obvious answer to if the illuminate are coming or not. They literally are because one of the premium warbound packs is the armor set has a 95% resistance to arc damage. What gives arc damage? Illuminates

@@mariboustate4707The armour are most definitely intended for the illuminate. Literally no other enemy deals arc damage. In terms of game balance, it would make sense for them to implement enemies to deal arc damage to compliment the gear. Its not like its broken or op, since only one enemy faction dishes out arc damage, making the armour sets somewhat niche in use.
We haven't gotten acid or fire resistance, yet we already have arc resistance. I honestly believe they did so to both tease us(pun intended) and to have a deniability with how friendly fire some arc weapons are.
When the illuminate do come the cutting edge-warbond armor that provides 95% resistance damage to arc damage would be more useful now due to the fact that they use arc/electric based attacks.
Great as it would be features like that are hard to pull off and creates instability/glitches/performance issues. It requires a LOT of testing and tweaking. Right now the devs want to focus and keeping the game stable while adding content. Maybe in future.
They kinda feel like both Eldar and Tau from Warhammer 40K. Really love the influences they add in Helldivers 2, along side the iconic film, Starship troopers. For Democracy! For the emperor!

In the First Galactic War, Super Earth was the place where you went to train and capacitate low-ranking officers (liutenants, captains, majors) into high-ranking officers (colonels, brigadiers, generals, and finally, admirals of Super Earth). So they could turn the tide of the losing war they were facing at the time.

Looks like most of the illuminate designs are take inspiration from Starcraft... Protoss faction... Dark Templars, Zealots, Colossus though reminds me of the fighting machine from "War of the Worlds... For the Terminids the shriekers resumble the mutas, nursing spewers banelings. The bigger question is if either the northern or southern campigns are the illuminate what is the other race that yet to reveal themselves?
the cyborgs probably, but they might be to similar to the bots and just become added units to the faction. This new one might be like the covenant from Halo. In the future we might see guerrillas, zombies or monsters. it has to make sense thematically, but it cant feel like a repeated faction.

Or other types of missions and conflicts to add some other kinds of combat and gameplay to the game. They have a lot of options they could potentially do in this game.
I have had many… “accidents” when dealing with the Illuminate in the first galactic war, but now I shudder to imagine what the can do now after all this time.
13:26 saw a friend get obliterated by one of those. we were on the extract, there were no plants around that could have hit him (he was lying on a building with a sniper) and i saw the beam spear him through the skull.
It reminded me of hl2 striders and that enemy was hard to beat like I spent 20 minutes trying to kill just three of them. So I'm scared of what the tripods are gonna be like.
My old man is a veteran in the war, and during his time he told me a very interesting story. While on a hell dive, he had a backpack shield equipped, ready to tear our enemies apart. However, during his excursion, his shield had been shot and destroyed by a blue laser! Similar reports dictate that the perpetrator was an Illuminate sniper, warping out of sight before my old man could make eye contact. They don’t just live among us already; they’re toying with us. Despite what the ministry of truth babbles to the good citizens of Super Earth and our fellow Helldivers, it’s only a matter of time before the galaxy is sieged by our oldest foe. One last note, and this is a personal preference: I got a bad feeling that new enemies lie on the horizon, waiting for their chance to eliminate all of humanity and democracy!
Great video! I loved the first Helldivers game and still rank it among the top of my all-time favorite games. There is sooooo much more goodness in the first one that I am sure will make its way into the game over time. I agree with this method the devs are doing because it keeps the game fresh for a long time to come.
In the first game it is a fact, that shield pack, ark thrower and suspension field (aoe stun stratagem) are based off of Illuminate tech, among other things. So the fact we have these things in Helldivers 2, but not Illuminates, probably means they were wiped from public knowledge by govt, and the race itself is probably lurking around, waiting to strike against the Superearth.
I was late into the pod on this one. I cant remember the last time I played a game that made me obsess like this. I cant stop watching Helldiver stuff!! I LOVE IT!
So, we have zerg (terminids), terran mech (automatons) and now protoss (illuminates)... I think it's safe to assume that Helldivers 2 is a way more succesful Starcraft: Ghost)
I am happy they are adding more enemy factions. I hope they add new kinds of maps and missions also. Like if the devs made Mars and Earth maps fighting in cities and suburbs of a semi destroyed earth would be awesome. I am sure the GM can come up with a good lore reason why Earth and Mars are under threat. Bug outbreak on a clandestine research facility on Super Earth. Bots deep strike on Earth. Illuminate sympathizers open some kind of space time tech portal for them so they start striking at Earth cities.
We can already park our destroyers in Super Earth to some extent. If you go offline on a sector that's almost liberated, your destroyer will be sent to Super Earth.

I have a dream last night I was fighting a massive horde of automaton but they stop firing at me and start running away in fear I wonder why and I turned around and I know why a huge fleet of illuminate ships coming out of wormhole and illuminate troops start teleport to the ground and start killing helldivers and automaton alike and one of illuminate troops grab me by the neck and say to me your end is coming and then kill me i woke up scared I wonder was that a nightmare or a vision
The fact that the devs are releasing new weapons, enemy types and a new faction soon all before the game’s first year makes the Helldivers experience so much more satisfying!
I have lost all my limbs and had them replaced with cybernetics that just pop off every time I am seriously hurt by the enemy to make them think Im done.
who are the skin walker helldivers in the game right now? theres been a couple times a buddy will run by me and i check the map and theyre all the way across the map. but there will be a random hell diver right in front of me with their number above the head. same thing happened twice in one game, my buddy said why are you next to me i thought you were closing fabricators. i was. but someone with my name and gear was standing right next to him
@D3adCl0wn what do you mean? Cause what we saw was all 4 players accounted for plus an extra. For example when I saw my friend next to me, it had his gear and his name above his head. All players were accounted for in other locations. Later that game he saw me walk up and start shooting next to him with same gear and my name. But all players are accounted for in different location. I wasn't sure how to record it but we just assumed joel or another dev messing around in the game but they didn't really do much besides confuse everyone
Helldivers 2 feels like a prequel, in HD1 the helldivers had so much more at their disposal, support weapons where just primaries, cooldowns were shorter, reinforcements were plentiful if there was someone to throw them.
Helldivers 2 is barely a month old. The content we have now is good, so it gives us something to look forward to in the future. I didn’t play the first game, but I am sure it is a weird feeling to be missing so much (for now).
2 is definitely a sequel. The Automotons are the descendants of the Cyborgs and the reason we have more electric based gear is because we learned it from the Illuminates in HD1. As for cooldowns being longer and weapons now being relegated to support weapons, that's the cost of a prolonged war. We have been stretched to our limits and supplies are running thin. We can't just give every Helldiver an LMG anymore, there aren't enough of them
@@alexanderrobins7497 HD1 literally had warthog-like vehicles, motorcyles, way more weapons, etc. The major different is that in HD2 everything is free if you're willing to put in the work for it. In HD1 ALL the extra things, even mechs, were locked behind paid DLC.
Given that the current objective in Helldivers is to essentially “finish off” the Automatans in a massive offensive campaign. It wouldn’t surprise me if this new faction emerges in the wake of a victory over the machines. Trading one enemy only for another to take their place.
I'm not sure if they'll do it since it would take so much work to do both but it'd be very interesting if they introduced the Illuminate in conjunction with adding urban city maps to play on. Narratively it could work very well as like a Fall of Reach situation where the Illuminate launch multiple surprise attacks deep in Super Earth territory.
The tripod is gonna make me cry It looks exactly like the tripods from War of the Worlds As well, the tripods from WotW have a fog horn I had a great fear of tripods when I was younger
I just built my first PC for this game. Decided on an Intel A770 16 gb gpu and I'm running HD2 on ultra at 1440p and getting 65 to 75 fps. Couldn't be happier. Total build was $1035, but that's a small price to pay for democracy.
This is filling the hole left by the Overwatch PVE that never happened. This game is where I go to play with my friends now that our old favorite game is basically dead.
I absolutely love the entire community building around this game. And the devs are playing along with it, which makes it so unique to have them be a part of the "team". While this is all very exciting news that the Illuminate are on their way, I also wonder what other kinds of filthy xenos are hiding out amongst the stars, not yet discovered... waiting for some well applied liberty and managed democracy.
It would be awesome if they started introducing enemy types/races based on more classic scifi IPs like how the Terminids resemble Arachnids from Starship Troopers and the Automatons resemble Terminators... the options are plentiful! Xenomorphs - Alien Predators - Predator Critters - Critters Greys - Fire in the Sky Blobs - The Blob Martians - War of the Worlds Martians - When Mars Attacks Invaders - Battle Los Angeles Bioraptors - Pitch Black Etc.
It's interesting to see the Illuminate's tech has changed since the first game, where they looked kind of like the standard 'Apple' sci-fi faction, being sleek, white and rounded, wheras now they seem to have started to use HR Geiger-esque biomechanical tech
I'd like to see more diversity with the planets and biomes, maybe robotic city maps or big gigafactorys. Maybe even super earth maps in special events. Also new enemy races would be amazing. Perhaps even different game modes with like a defense type scenario where the enemy's cannot over run certain areas like a king of the hill type of deal. This game has so much potential I can't wait to see what comes out

The cutting edge war bond armour having high resistances to Arc damage makes a lot more sense now.

It be really cool if Illuminates start making small appearance while doing other missions. Preferably on Major order missions.
They already do! There are clips of blue lasers shooting down automaton drop ships. Such weapons are not available anywhere but illuminates

The Automatons are gonna start pushing back. The fight on Malevelon Creek is too easy currently, J.O.E.L is gonna give them a boost pretty soon.
The dispatches coming with the latest Major order could be understood as indicating a massive automaton horde waiting just outside of the galaxy. Question is, what will happen first: Iluminates appearing, massive Automaton reinforcements, Terminids running out of control again (completely unrelated to the TCS, of course)...
@@christophvogel1080 I think a major content update for Bots will come first, like a major campaign against their push for Cyberstan. After we win that event, Illuminates might be next. The bug front is a fluke anyway, we just fight them for oil and not really in a real war with them.
One thing I'm surprised no one is talking about is the Cyborg faction from Helldivers 1. The Devs stated on release that these aren't the Automatons, and one of the voice lines from Service Technician Thomasson specifically references both the automatons and the cyborgs working in the mines :O
The automatons are fighting to free their creators which is why they're heading to cyberstan, rather than super earth.
The Cyborgs got ensla- I mean, they are paying reparations after they were defeated during the Siege of Cyberstan at the end of the First Galactic War.

The illuminate are without a doubt coming! There’s been multiple times now while playing against the termini’s or automatons, I get shot by a blue streak or laser and turn to see my assailant with no one there. Super excited for this new enemy addition whenever it does happen!
I know I wasn't crazy when I was freaking out from being shot by a blue beam.

The Illuminate definitely are only interested in getting revenge on Superearth, I imagine the bots would be fine farming the bugs, but the illuminate may purposefully mutate the bugs to make them even stronger, and arm the bots with better weaponry. The illuminate want us DEAD and nothing else. The bots want to free cyberstan and the cyborgs, the bugs are just fighting back because if they don't they'll keep getting farmed for their blood, the illuminate are just here to fuck us over for driving them out of the galaxy.

@@mariboustate4707The armour are most definitely intended for the illuminate. Literally no other enemy deals arc damage. In terms of game balance, it would make sense for them to implement enemies to deal arc damage to compliment the gear. Its not like its broken or op, since only one enemy faction dishes out arc damage, making the armour sets somewhat niche in use.
We haven't gotten acid or fire resistance, yet we already have arc resistance.
I honestly believe they did so to both tease us(pun intended) and to have a deniability with how friendly fire some arc weapons are.
When the illuminate do come the cutting edge-warbond armor that provides 95% resistance damage to arc damage would be more useful now due to the fact that they use arc/electric based attacks.

Most likely automatons should somehow start enhancing bugs into cyborg bug to make them even formidable instead. THat would be more intresting
While that might not actually happen, lore wise it has. I was on a bug planet the other day and noticed automaton corpses littered around.
Great as it would be features like that are hard to pull off and creates instability/glitches/performance issues. It requires a LOT of testing and tweaking. Right now the devs want to focus and keeping the game stable while adding content. Maybe in future.

They kinda feel like both Eldar and Tau from Warhammer 40K. Really love the influences they add in Helldivers 2, along side the iconic film, Starship troopers. For Democracy! For the emperor!
I can see the 40k influence but they also remind me of both war of the worlds, the covenant from halo and a bit of the combine.

So they could turn the tide of the losing war they were facing at the time.

Looks like most of the illuminate designs are take inspiration from Starcraft... Protoss faction... Dark Templars, Zealots, Colossus though reminds me of the fighting machine from "War of the Worlds... For the Terminids the shriekers resumble the mutas, nursing spewers banelings.
The bigger question is if either the northern or southern campigns are the illuminate what is the other race that yet to reveal themselves?
the cyborgs probably, but they might be to similar to the bots and just become added units to the faction.
This new one might be like the covenant from Halo. In the future we might see guerrillas, zombies or monsters.

My old man is a veteran in the war, and during his time he told me a very interesting story. While on a hell dive, he had a backpack shield equipped, ready to tear our enemies apart. However, during his excursion, his shield had been shot and destroyed by a blue laser! Similar reports dictate that the perpetrator was an Illuminate sniper, warping out of sight before my old man could make eye contact. They don’t just live among us already; they’re toying with us. Despite what the ministry of truth babbles to the good citizens of Super Earth and our fellow Helldivers, it’s only a matter of time before the galaxy is sieged by our oldest foe. One last note, and this is a personal preference: I got a bad feeling that new enemies lie on the horizon, waiting for their chance to eliminate all of humanity and democracy!

Great video! I loved the first Helldivers game and still rank it among the top of my all-time favorite games. There is sooooo much more goodness in the first one that I am sure will make its way into the game over time. I agree with this method the devs are doing because it keeps the game fresh for a long time to come.

In the first game it is a fact, that shield pack, ark thrower and suspension field (aoe stun stratagem) are based off of Illuminate tech, among other things. So the fact we have these things in Helldivers 2, but not Illuminates, probably means they were wiped from public knowledge by govt, and the race itself is probably lurking around, waiting to strike against the Superearth.

I am happy they are adding more enemy factions. I hope they add new kinds of maps and missions also. Like if the devs made Mars and Earth maps fighting in cities and suburbs of a semi destroyed earth would be awesome. I am sure the GM can come up with a good lore reason why Earth and Mars are under threat. Bug outbreak on a clandestine research facility on Super Earth. Bots deep strike on Earth. Illuminate sympathizers open some kind of space time tech portal for them so they start striking at Earth cities.
Well, they HAVE to do that anyway if the front gets pushed back enough. So that's almost obvious.
We can already park our destroyers in Super Earth to some extent. If you go offline on a sector that's almost liberated, your destroyer will be sent to Super Earth.
So many people just don't understand how the whole community galactic war thing works.

It's just a bug where the game somehow puts 2 players on the same color. Happened to me a couple times now.
@D3adCl0wn what do you mean? Cause what we saw was all 4 players accounted for plus an extra. For example when I saw my friend next to me, it had his gear and his name above his head. All players were accounted for in other locations. Later that game he saw me walk up and start shooting next to him with same gear and my name. But all players are accounted for in different location. I wasn't sure how to record it but we just assumed joel or another dev messing around in the game but they didn't really do much besides confuse everyone

Helldivers 2 feels like a prequel, in HD1 the helldivers had so much more at their disposal, support weapons where just primaries, cooldowns were shorter, reinforcements were plentiful if there was someone to throw them.
we're still at the start of the war, so the industrial gearing is probably not there yet
To be fair in Helldivers 1 the humankind is in a cycle of near extinction and rebuild so it make sense some progresses were reset
Helldivers 2 is barely a month old. The content we have now is good, so it gives us something to look forward to in the future. I didn’t play the first game, but I am sure it is a weird feeling to be missing so much (for now).
2 is definitely a sequel. The Automotons are the descendants of the Cyborgs and the reason we have more electric based gear is because we learned it from the Illuminates in HD1.
As for cooldowns being longer and weapons now being relegated to support weapons, that's the cost of a prolonged war. We have been stretched to our limits and supplies are running thin. We can't just give every Helldiver an LMG anymore, there aren't enough of them
@@alexanderrobins7497 HD1 literally had warthog-like vehicles, motorcyles, way more weapons, etc. The major different is that in HD2 everything is free if you're willing to put in the work for it. In HD1 ALL the extra things, even mechs, were locked behind paid DLC.
The prototype armor sets are really good for the illuminate because they have a 95 block to shock

Given that the current objective in Helldivers is to essentially “finish off” the Automatans in a massive offensive campaign. It wouldn’t surprise me if this new faction emerges in the wake of a victory over the machines.

I'm not sure if they'll do it since it would take so much work to do both but it'd be very interesting if they introduced the Illuminate in conjunction with adding urban city maps to play on.
Narratively it could work very well as like a Fall of Reach situation where the Illuminate launch multiple surprise attacks deep in Super Earth territory.

I just built my first PC for this game. Decided on an Intel A770 16 gb gpu and I'm running HD2 on ultra at 1440p and getting 65 to 75 fps. Couldn't be happier. Total build was $1035, but that's a small price to pay for democracy.

I absolutely love the entire community building around this game. And the devs are playing along with it, which makes it so unique to have them be a part of the "team". While this is all very exciting news that the Illuminate are on their way, I also wonder what other kinds of filthy xenos are hiding out amongst the stars, not yet discovered... waiting for some well applied liberty and managed democracy.

It's interesting to see the Illuminate's tech has changed since the first game, where they looked kind of like the standard 'Apple' sci-fi faction, being sleek, white and rounded, wheras now they seem to have started to use HR Geiger-esque biomechanical tech
I'd like to see more diversity with the planets and biomes, maybe robotic city maps or big gigafactorys. Maybe even super earth maps in special events. Also new enemy races would be amazing. Perhaps even different game modes with like a defense type scenario where the enemy's cannot over run certain areas like a king of the hill type of deal. This game has so much potential I can't wait to see what comes out
