It's super fast, super easy and there are lots of options for how to deal with the files: Filename Prefix and Postfix options, templates, etc. It costs $$ but I have access to it at home so I gave it a try. Hey I just figured something out! I’m order for the DJS 1000 to read your files: 1. They have to be rendered at . WAV 44100 and 24 bit depth. You have to also convert the midi to audio file and increase the gain. Once did this my files worked!!

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  4 роки тому +1

      I think you might be able to get away with 16 bit depth because I’m sure I’ve used a few like that but definitely 44.1khz, I’m sure there’s a guide in the manual for the optimal settings

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  3 роки тому

      Personally I'd say it's mostly about the form factors - I think the DJS fits better into a DJ booth being the shape & size that it is, sits perfectly next to a CDJ. In the studio though the SP-16 is smaller and just feels a little easier to use sitting down at a desk. Feature-wise it's a trade off - with the SP-16 you get the wonderful Dave Smith filters and song mode but with the DJS you get an easier to access sync-mode and quick use master FX. Looking at it like that for me it is clear which one was designed for which but that doesn't mean you can't flip that - you can use both for either. I'd probably just say it depends where you're going to use it the most - in a DJ booth or the studio.

    Hey this is an extremely helpful video, thank you!
    I'm considering doing a sort of hybrid live/djing setup with djs controlling to play stems of my tracks etc. I got a few questions, would really appreciate if someone would help me with that!
    1. Can you use the DJS to send midi sequences to hardware synths and feed the audio back into the DJS?
    2. Can you use the DJS as a midi controller for ableton live during production? (Step sequencer, drum rack, transport would be awesome)
    3. does the DJS have master effects (especially a limiter) to make the tracks a little louder and able to compete with mastered productions playing from cdjs?
    thank you!

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  2 роки тому +1

      1) yes you can control other synths via midi, for example it works great for controlling the AS-1 however you only have one input so all synths need to go back into the DJS via that if you want use the FX in the unit.
      2) also possible to control Ableton via DIN or USB midi, I’ve got another video where I’ve done that on my channel. Not sure on the transport controls though, possibly if the DJS is set to leader.
      3) unfortunately the DJS doesn’t have a master limiter, I’ve always wished it had a compressor to glue the elements together but sadly not. On the SP-16 it does have the drive on the Dave Smith filters which can help with that but it didn’t make its way to the DJS.

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  4 роки тому

      For shorter sets (1hr or less) I don't tend to use it much as I usually have so much music I like to fit in but for longer sets I do like to jump on it more. For this summer I'm actually planning some fully live sets with dual DJS-1000s. I'll still have the CDJs there to play acapellas and some full tracks but most will come from the DJS. My main goal though is to still make it a good experience for the crowd, keeping it interesting for them. The Akai Force does look great and I imagine it would be brilliant in a live set but I can't imagine anything will be as tightly integrated with a Pioneer DJ setup than the DJS.

    • @thecalver
      @thecalver 4 роки тому +1

      @@DirtySecretz yeah thats the thing isn't it the pro-link connectivity. Oops... looks like you've got dithering turned off in your export settings there champ lol Ableton runs at 32-bit floating point, so you should always have dithering turned on if you're exporting a file to an external source at 24 bit or lower my brother

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  3 роки тому

      I've never had a problem with having dithering turned off, I've had a few mastering engineers I work with tell me just to leave it off and I've honestly never had an issue with it.

    • @tommyottobisdee
      @tommyottobisdee 3 роки тому

      @@DirtySecretz Well I hesitate to go into a long explanation cos I’ll sound like a right snob, was just offering some advice quite honestly cos I know myself how baffling the subject is, especially when every website seems to say something different!
      Suffice to say though, that there are a few facts you need to take into account:
      {1} Pioneer units like the DJS-1000 will apply dithering on the output signal regardless of what samples you play through it anyway.
      {2} The artefacts of dithering are almost entirely imperceptible to the human ear because it works below the noise floor of human hearing. Therefore dithering multiple times is about as impossible to hear as it is just doing it once.
      {3} If you don’t dither fixed point bit rates below 32 bit, then it’s a mathematical certainty that quantization errors will occur - 32 doesn’t divide by 24 into an integer value after all.
      {4} Ableton processes ALL signals at 32 bit floating-point internally (or higher if you are using oversampling), so if you only did something like change the volume or apply a fade at the end of the clip, it’s been up-scaled to 32 bit and will now suffer quantization errors if exported at anything lower.
      The reason mastering engineers might suggest not dithering would only logically be necessary if you were either supplying 24 bit stems for a mix engineer to put together for you, or sending them a pre-master file so they can apply dither themselves during the mastering process - although if it was me, I’d just send them a 32 bit pre-master and ignore the dithering issue entirely, but there you go.
      Hence, since you’re just exporting a sample to be played back on the sampler unit and not sending the sample to be mastered before it gets played on the DJS-1000, the sampler is the end source and so the audio should be dithered.

The XDJ-RX3 has an AUX channel that you could run the DJS into however there's no EQ on that channel, just a trim. Also the XDJ-RX3 doesn't have Pro Link so you wouldn't be able to sync them. If you're looking for an all in one the XDJ-XZ is probably one of the best solutions for that as it has 4 full channels and Pro Link.

    what is the difference between the both machines? i prefer from form factor the sp-16. also as dj i do. the 1000s format is for me to "square" but how is it feature wise between this two?
    And another Question: Why didn't you already normalized the samples during export from ableton? It has a normalize function build it.

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  4 роки тому +1

      SP-16 has the Dave Smith filters and setup best for live performance and studio work whereas the DJS is in the same form factor as a CDJ with the same sync controls. I honestly prefer the DJS, feels much better in the dj booth for me - always found the SP16 a pain when on a laptop stand. I forgot to normalise them coming out of Ableton, by default I don’t usually enable it as I don’t want it for production exports.

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  3 роки тому +1

      Because the DJS-1000 fits so seemlessly into a set, syncing perfectly with the CDJs and allows me to turn up with just a USB stick and plug it into the venue's player. If I was doing a full live setup Ableton would definitely be at the core of it but for a DJ set I'd rather not introduce a laptop.

    how would you create 1 project that contains 6 scenes just with drum hits, one shots and loops at different bpms?

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  2 роки тому +1

      Generally you just have one set BPM per project, all samples and patterns you create fit to that BPM but you of course can adjust the BPM with the pitch slider on the hardware if you want to jump from one BPM to another.

    Hey I just got but when I try to load files in the DJS - TPS creator it glitches! weird. does this ever happen to you?

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  4 роки тому +1

      To be honest I never use the TPS software, I think it needs some major development to get it up to a decent standard but I think I just prefer using the actual unit itself. If you don't have a DJS-1000 or SP-16 then you're stuck with preparing in the software but I find it's easier and quicker just to chuck the samples in a folder on a USB and then just load them in on the unit itself.

      Mac Joseph you can play external instruments of chords up to 4 keys using the settings on the pad but unfortunately you can’t with samples (unless they’ve updated it in firmware recently)

      Mit 136 Speichen um die Welt You would prepare the tracks in exactly same way, they share the same software and interface. I would use the DJS-1000 in DJ sets with the nexus range but SP-16 if it were standalone with other instruments. You can use both in the same ways but that would be my preference, they seem to work best like that.

      Yes, the filter on the SP-16 is amazing (the drive is brilliant for saturating sounds for production) although I think the DJS-1000 is slightly better laid out for performing in my opinion. Both have strong points, it’s just a case of having some hands on time with them to decide which is best for you.

    If I already have Push 2 would It be a waste of money to buy a DJs 1000

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  4 роки тому

      They are very different products - the Push is designed to be used with Ableton as a performance device and can not be used standalone. The DJS-1000 is a standalone sampler primarily for use within a DJ set. You can of course use the Push in a DJ set with a bit of a complex setup but really it's designed for live performance & use in the studio. You could also use the DJS-1000 in the studio if you want (and many do) but really I would suggest there are other samplers that integrate better with DAWs. For me, I use the DJS-1000 really only in my DJ sets or live performance so if you feel like you're missing that then it may be good for you.

    • @DirtySecretz
      @DirtySecretz  5 років тому

      No, unfortunately the RX2 does not have the ability to sync with external equipment so you have to manually sync them. It does however have an AUX channel so you can run it in through there allowing for you to mix 2 tracks and sounds from the DJS so although you can't sync, you can at least still use it with the equipment.
