- The Pioneer DJS-1000 is great for remixing tracks on the fly but what if you don't have all the parts or stems for a track? In this video I have a look at how you can take an existing track and cut it up in Ableton to create your own stems / remix parts ready to then perform on the DJS-1000.
00:00 - Introduction
01:54 - Importing the track into Ableton & warping
04:21 - Selecting the remix parts
09:34 - Trimming the parts
24:11 - Exporting
29:57 - Loading onto the DJS-1000
33:04 - Playing the track live
34:47 - Wrap up

I have to agree with all the comments, without your videos the DJS-1000 would be a nice ornament. Thanks for creating these, helps everyone get the most out of it.
Hi I just learnt to do exactly what I wanted to know (no irrelevant jibberish to confuse things) Clear and concise. The way in which you explain things is Absolutely’T’ for Tremendous and big ups to your for sharing your knowledge 👊😎🎶❤️🎵
Thank-you so much for sharing all of your knowledge on the DJS-1000. I really appreciate it.
EXCELLENT. Love the approach. Will be applying this to my tracks that I DJ with as well. Thank you for doing this video
Sir, you are an absolute hero. Thnx for this great video explaining all this in depth.
Excellent video great content
I I could press the like a 100 times I would. Amazing content.
Subscribed.
these DJs 1000 tutorials you've been putting together are really excellent! I'll be using a lot of these tricks that you've been showing us on my SP16!
Great to hear, I always forget to mention that it pretty much works exactly the same for the SP-16!
Great stuff here 👍🏽👍🏽
Great video.
I've been doing something similar on the DJS using live sampling just for small vocal loops which are edited directly in the player but I have ableton now so will be having a play on that.
Keep up the great content 👏
It is awesome as a stand-alone sampler but preparing all the stems/samples in a DAW just gives you so much power in a live set 😊
Thanks again for the tutorial Richie, without your lessons my djs1000 would be a nice ornament!! Plus my use of ableton is improving massively. Cant recommend you enough!. Ps your online ableton course is the bomb!
Thanks mate! Really glad both have helped 😁
very nice, thanks a lottttt
Thanks Man!
Really nice advices and workflow :) Thank you for sharing it
For that kind of bass, you could maybe cut it around 250-300 Hz with no problem, it's very subby with no mid-range :)
Thank you
Thank you so much for all this helpful imformation! You are a legend, can you please explain about putting the USB key into the sampler first to create a folder? id really appreciate it !!! thank you !!!
It's quite simple, you just put a formatted USB into the DJS-1000 or SP-16 and it'll automatically create the folders you need.
@@DirtySecretz
Thank you so much!
I really appreciate that
Your videos are amazing 👍🏼😉
Always super helpful!! I know you said you can sync with Ableton and i checked and you that is possible but can you tell me if you can Sync the DJS with Serato?!?
I’ve never actually tried Serato so can’t say for sure but I guess in theory it could - I’ll see about testing it out soon
@@DirtySecretz please do thanks!!
What would you do if the vocal wasn’t alone like in this example . How do you get the vocal alone if it’s behind a beat etc ?
Love the music & content! Do you have to stop & load up different songs or can you have multiple groups/banks of song stems you can switch on the fly?
So the way it works is that you can have multiple 'Scenes' (16) within each project. Each scene is a collection of 16 samples so you could treat each scene as a different song - allowing you up to 16 songs per project. However I tend to have a different project for each song so that when I go to browse the projects I'm selecting a song. This does of course mean stopping the playing track to then load up the new project. If you have a different song on each scene it can be tricky figuring out which scene is which song quickly (you can read the sample names obviously but still not ideal). With the different scenes you can jump between the songs in a performance however there is no transition between the two which I why I'd rather rely on playing a mastered track on a CDJ for example, then mixing it into a track performed live on the DJS and then back into another track on a CDJ again - or if there are two DJS-1000s then mixing between those.
@@DirtySecretz Thank you! This was really helpful.
thanks for this video. just picked up a djs-1000 and i have a simple question. when playing a 1 bar pattern and you stop say on beat 3. how do reset the starting point back to beat 1 so the next time you play, it starts from the beginning of the pattern again? thanks in advance. btw, i have it synced with serato and ableton live lite (with the help of your other video.
Hey @DirtySecretz. These video's helped me a lot with getting around my own DJS-1000. You've made these video's a while back, current day and age, are you still actively using the DJS-1000? Asking this because even on a medium like UA-cam or Reddit, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of going on around this (imo) awesome device. Thanks for your reply!
@dirtysecretz
Hopefully not too off-topic, as this is more a general question about the DJS1000: but transitioning from an SP-404, with tons of FX, I noticed that the DJS only has eight. In your experience, between all the potential triggers and permutations, is that sufficient or do you miss any other FX you've had on other units?
Thanks much - I'm appreciating your vids.
If you were using the DJS-1000 just for music production then yes, I'd say it was probably quite limited but personally I believe the DJS is most suited in the DJ box and when you're in the middle of a set the last you want to do is go through 15, 20, 30 FX to find the one you want. Pioneer could add more FX to that list though, it's just a case of updating the firmware so who knows what could be added. And also, if you're using it in a DJ set then you also have all the FX that are on the mixer too.
I'm having a 8 bar melodic loop. How can I increase DJS 1000's pattern length to 8 bar? Or is there a workaround that?
A much faster way to export your files in Ableton Live would be to export selected tracks. Then export them directly to your thumb drive. 👍🏽
Yes you can save out all the individual tracks in one go but I wanted to export the bass & siren part with and without sc. I could have duplicated those tracks then saved them all out but there’s always multiple ways to go about these things.
Dirty Secretz kool. Yea I figured that would be much faster that doing it one by one. 😁👍🏽
@Mac - I’ve looked for this option - but it’s not obvious to me how to do that. Any pointers on how? Thx!
Alex Barnett sure I can teach you. I’m on IG bboymac84
Mac Joseph cool...just followed u there
Hello Dirty, could you share with us your DJS-1000 project with us? Thanks?. Good Job
Sorry but I can't share this project as the track used is a commercially available song and so sharing it would be illegal
Great video! Do i need Ableton Standard or is Intro already sufficient?
Ableton Intro should be more than enough, I did a whole course on making DJ edits, remixes & bootlegs with Ableton and kept within the restrictions of Intro without a problem.
Ahhh, great, thanxxx a lot! Was a little confused because Standard ads slicing as a feature, but you did it manually 🤔
There’s always ways of getting round certain restrictions and I used Intro for quite a while!
Thanxxx, I'll go with Intro 👍🏻
You prefer the DJS-100 instead of using the Toraiz SP-16? And yes, why? This together live can be a killer combo, what do you think?
I do prefer the DJS-1000 just because of the form factor. I’ve tried the SP-16 at gigs before the DJS came out but for me I just never found a comfortable way of fitting it in the booth whereas the DJS really feels like another deck - plus I prefer the way you can control sync on it quickly.
@@DirtySecretz I like the fact that the DGS 1000 can be the master clock source. The SP16 cannot. I'm also looking at getting a DJs 1000 specifically because of the form factor as you noted. It fits in much much nicer with the decks and I've had the same problem with my SP16 it's kind of a wart on the chain of equipment. not that it doesn't perform well!
Wish they had chords😞
:-) What ableton skin are you using? Looks cool
It's the 'Sonic Academy' theme that I've tweaked, available on Ableton Themes:
www.abletonthemes.com/themes/sonic-academy-tweaked/3553
@@DirtySecretz THANKS :-)
@@DirtySecretz THANK YOU :-)
Are the functions in this video available in the intro version of ableton ?
Yes, most of them - the only thing you'll find is you don't have EQ Eight but you could probably do something similar by using EQ Three and turning down the bass. If you are looking for more control without upgrading you could try out Tokyo Dawn Record's plugin Nov - it's a free parametric EQ which I recommend to anyone who's got intro and doesn't want to spend out on an EQ plugin:
www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/
@@DirtySecretz thanks, the price tag of ableton is a bit extreme for someone who is just looking for software to break tracks down for use on the DJS1000
@@clintharshaw It certainly isn't cheap but what I recommend to most people is start with Intro - it only has a few restrictions which you can live with (and find workarounds) and when you're ready Ableton offer some great upgrade prices (plus it's worth waiting for offers that come along every now and again). Plus there's a 90 day trial at the moment, which is more than enough to see whether you like the software or not.
@@DirtySecretz do you have any method of playing a sample of more than 4 bars ? without it retriggering at 4 bars in ?, i want to loop a sample of 8 bars but can only one shot it live to get it play the full length, then no looping and have to pop it right on time
@@clintharshaw Unfortunately not, the only way I've found to do it in the past is to play that sample manually. With a live performance I did I had a reversed sax sound that went over 8 bars so I triggered it manually on the 1st beat. Not ideal but only way round it!
Hello, I have an s1000 but the usb doesn’t seem to work. When I put it on the s1000 it creates a folder the. I put the stems inside and when I put it back on the s1000 is empty. Maybe I’m not doing something right. Can you please help me with that? Thank you
Have you put the files in the right folder? There should be a folder on the USB for samples and they should go in there. Also make sure that you have the audio files in the right format.
@@DirtySecretz the file format is wav and first I put it on the projects and nothing, and then on the samples folder and also nothing. I’m going crazy trying to figure out what’s going on
@@afrodrumz9343 As long as the samples are in the PIONEER DJ SAMPLER/Samples folder they should show up on the device. The other folders (Projects, Scenes, System) are purely for the DJS to use at should not be altered. If you've put them in the samples folder then it's a bit hard to tell what is going wrong just from describing it in here because it could be any number of small things that might causing the issue.
@@DirtySecretz could it be the type of usb ? Idk man I have try so many times and nothing. Don’t know what to do
@@afrodrumz9343 It could be the formatting of the USB if nothing is showing up at all
That’s way better that using the DJS-TSP software. The software is garbage. Been using Ableton for over a decade. This should be pretty easy. Just picked up a DJS-1000 for the studio and live shows.
You talk tooooo much🙄
