I pressed play and within the first minute the walls around me turned into liquid. Wow! how does he get the piano to sound like a beautiful waterfall?
... LIKE A WATERFALL.. YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER.
He has the special, delicate touch that flows from within... I'm melting into emotional mess with his music... Eric is a sweet, articulate young man too.
The one perfect piece of music, Chopin, or anybody.
And you - a poet.
1:15 Look at his shaky hands, he still managed to play with such control and beautiful rubato despite being nervous. Best Nocturne in D flat major I've ever heard.
Only seventeen years old, and yet already so gifted, and such a poet. He swims in Chopin’s ocean like a fish, so easily, as its second country. What an artist !
"gifted" is not a thing imo. it's all about the practice, effort and passion
Faraz shadow correct. Word “talent” can be a swear word for someone who practices for an almost whole day.
@@eliter7991 yeah, I personally don't like it when someone tells me I'm talented.
Did he win the comp?
@@farazshadow2898 yea I guess Mozart and Chopin and all the other geniuses just practiced a lot to start composing at 5 and 6 years old. Of course hard work is most important to cultivate your talent, but to say some people aren't born with more god given ability is false.
I was there, sitting in the audience when he played this. I was blown away when he played this piece, I especially loved his phrasing at 4:20. Amazing pianist!
it sounds so amazingly beautifull
You’re sooooooooooo lucky 💕🧸💕🧸💕
Beautiful expression......
I really enjoyed listening to you........
Thank you ❤
Every single note has been touching my heart, gentle yet deep . I'm now in love with this Nocturne.
3:43 is incredible. He makes it look downright easy!
The best tempo and version I’ve ever heard
the sound quality is amazing!
The only way to describe this interpretation of Chopin's Nocturne by Eric Lu is LOVE
This such a wonderful performance. You clearly can hear the sadness and the joy of this beautiful nocturne. Eric Lu truly understand what Chopin was talking about. Bravo 😢!!
5:28 one of the most beautiful piece endings in history.
Couldnt agree more but its amazing how different interpretations of this piece and that apotheosis colors one’s feelings
Yeah that 6:7 is executed beautifully
And he was just 17 at the time..... I haven't heard such a beautiful and poetic interpretation of this nocturne. Thanks Eric for this wonderful performance. You have a very bright future ahead. :)
He sang beautifully.!
😊
Hahahaha
How dare people dislike this vid, this is amazing
so poetic!
Wow. He doesn't even need to look at the keys.
It is one of the most beautiful compositions to me and it is an amazing interpretation - I could listen to it over and over again.... It is so dreamy, so heavenly.... Bravo, Eric, the poet.
And it just floats away at the end. This is my favorite Chopin. I use it in my video, "Bjorn Andresen, Nocturne."
Wonderful performance. Not surprised that he was an audience favorite at the competition.
Is it gay to say that I want to be caressed by his tender fingers?
yes. it is gay...
Najlepsze wykonanie jakiekolwiek słyszałem!!!
Eric, that was stunningly beautiful! 🇦🇺🇦🇺
아주 맑고 청아한 호수같은 느낌이었어요
저 맑고 깨끗한 세상으로 들어가 보고 싶습니다
Confucius said. 'Don't hear with ears but hear with mind. and Don't hear with mind but hear pure energy.'
Eric Lu is there to subject himself to music for us, not to show his skills, beautiful nocturne
Exactly. Thank you for this comment.
To me it seemed a poor performance. I think he has come to show their teeth. Completely overact and without real passion and "fresh blood".
Marc Amengual : I completely disagree. Beautiful, heartfelt performance.
I guess the judges disagree with you - he won 4th place in the Warsaw Chopin competition, 1st prize in the US Chopin competition in Miami.
It doesn't mean anything to me, I prefer to trust my own musical taste. No offense. I'm not saying he is a bad pianist, obviously he has good technique and plays so well, but for me all of those unnecessary facial expressions and excessive delicate hand movements are a little bit false, and does not correspond to the music "wants" to explain and transmit. As a suggestion, listen the Rubinstein's rendition, that's definitely authentic!
He wouldn't take up much studio time. That was flawless.
An incredible performance of incredible music.....
One of the best I've heard. Love it.
best performance of a nocturne in the competition!
Beautiful interpretation
Suggest you to listen to brigette engerer
Kate Liu's Nocturne is als amazing. No coincidence that she and Eric have the same teacher. The two of them were the undoubted poets of this competition.
A true prince of the piano - thrilling talent.
to be so young and to feel so intensely! Rubinstein played this as well with an incredible lifetime of experiences behind each phrase - bravo!
So proud of you Eric!
This captures my soul.... wonderful.
4:09 the most beautiful part for me
Sokpanha Mey yes, I agree
I AGREE!
Yes !
This nocturne can be perceived as the quintessence of love experiences, where the entire multifaceted palette of the suffering of the lyrical hero is presented. .. A musician with a strikingly subtle and extremely expressive sound, the sophistication of his taste, the absolute depth of understanding and stylistic perfection are amazing. . .👌🎶👌
So perfectly expressed!
Very sensitive touch. And the right tempo. Bravo
BEAUTIFUL SUND! Sensitive phrasing. LOVELY performance!
amazing , I LISTEN TO THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN-- DIVINE, BRINGING HEAVEN TO EARTH . TENDER AND DELICATLEY PERFORMED .
Agree. 18th already started, but I still come back to listen this performance.

It was the best I’ve ever heard!!!!
pure artistry
Beautiful, delicate 👌❤👏👏👏👏
I am totally speechless.. blown away--
I love Eric Lu’s playing!!!! 💕💕💕✨✨✨✨
GRANDIOSE,AMAZING,WONDERFUL...
Most beautiful no8 I've ever heard I almost melt
Io penso che Chopin la abbia immaginata esattamente così. Se fosse ancora vivo, è così che la suonerebbe.
no, la suonerebbe come Sergio Fiorentino.
Just watched you again Eric, absolutely beautiful!
Perfect, just perfect. So subtle and delicate
Chopin speaks to us directly through Eric Lu. This is undoubtedly the best performance ever. Forget Rubinstein
forget rubenstein? idk about that one chief
Fantastic piece, fantastic pianist
Best of the best
3:42 진짜 감탄이 절로 나온다
Love this, straight to the centre of the ❣.
So musical...
Yamaha CFX always sound much brighter than Steinway D, Shigeru & Fazioli in this comp. Interesting choice of CFX piano.
imo this is one of THE chopin master pieces, also the Op. 27 No 1 is worth listening to. Everytime I am listening to this piece I am wondering how on earth you can compose such a wonderful music making you forgetting time and gravity and just floating in endless space of music, listen to 4:12
that was really nice....bravo!
Even better than Andrea, How good can these pianists get? Sublime. :-)
Had the pure joy to watch you performing in Singapore recently despite the pandemic.
I cant stop listening to this
Eric you are a gift from GOD!
Shulamit Maneer, thanks for your reply.
We have the same vision.
It’s like l went into a different dimension!
He captured everyone the second he started. Amazing work 😊
0:40 I am very impressed by this performance. He isn't showing off definetly
I dont know what to say here... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and beautiful
I began to play this piece at 17 after hearing it played at the Kennedy Center by Rubinstein, so his was the first interpretation of this Nocturne I experienced. I was mesmerized throughout. I am complimenting Lu's performance because it is his own interpretation yet similar in to the lightness of Rubinstein's interpretation. Rubinstein was, and still is my role model for Chopin interpretation, and performance. I like Lu's delicacy throughout to the climax at the end. This performance was restful, and not jarring. Very nice.
Thank you bad1dobby for recommending Lisitsa! I have watched her on UA-cam too. I notice her hands do perform like dancers while she plays! I read once (paraphrased here...) that her teacher criticized her technique, but that criticism didn't change Valentina's approach. I'm glad she had the confidence to continue with what works for her! You are so right, her playing is as fluid as her arms, and hands are to watch.
omg...
Très belle interprétation avec une sonorité chantante et délicate même avec un piano Yamaha !
Superb
shimmering lights floating in golden ripples
One great performer
I use this music (another version) in my video "Björn Andrésen, Nocturne", where it truly belongs.
Piękne i ponadczasowe.
Lang Lang can now nervously smoke in the back stage, at the and one Asian guy has surpassed him in Chopin interpretation. Congrats Mr.Lu
This isnt one of my favourite nocturnes..... until i hear this!!!!
Beautiful
I am learning this, though there are parts I'll never be able to play. I have listened to a few people while following along in the score. The 3s against 4, etc. are really rather difficult. In the final bar there is even a 7 against 6! Of all the people I've listened to, Eric Lu was the most exact in following out these complex rhythmic patterns. It makes a big difference; the lacy patterns of the piece become transparent. I'm not against rubato at all, especially with Chopin, but you have to respect the underlying mathematical pattern, and have that as a reference point.
im also just learning this and i agree that the complex rhythms (at least by romantic standards) are so difficult to get even, really the most difficult part of learning it
superbement joué
Magnificent!!!
+takappar Just got to the video accidentally. Noticed I've already left a comment and got chuckles! Still it's Marvelous! Lu's Geneous!
He's is just amazing and please, just consider for a second that his "unnecessary facial expressions " might have been just a inner ecstasy and simple joy...Pat Metheny does the same over jazz tunes, think about it...
What u mean unnecessary facial expressions. People can make any face they want it’s none of your business to criticize and make such a dumb comment
Hey, let’s be nice here.
It doesn't matter anyway; he played one of the best versions of this nocturne.
so beautiful
The run down at the end after the big finale is the sweetest damn thing I’ve ever heard
Bunin's performance shows what is missing here.
So beautiful. Chopin is god of music
One of the best out there
WOW!!! SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
The thumbnail is not good man, it scares people.
no words , silent please when Chopin playing stop your please
Chopin would be so proud of you ❤️❤️❤️
Extraordinario.
7оспо́ди́, спасибо вам за тако чудо
WHEN Gods on Earth
A highly sensitive account of this famous piece.
ppl in audience only wish they could ply this to feel the euphoria, i one of them
I am a big fan of lang lang. And this is only the first song that i heard eric lu play. But hey this is better than lang lang , even. So natural and striaghtforward.
The best thing is that he doesnt overdo the pianissimo. And thats why he make it much more comfortable to hear on mobile phone.
Too many pianist overdo the pianissimo in nocturnes, making them barely audible on my mobile phone😂
Mmmmm
Wow!! This version is amazing!
His face shows how much he’s into the music and he definitely is REALLY into it
fluid as liquid
magical performance!
