This is the complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms animated summary series for those who don't have the time to read the 120 chapters novel. Keep in mind that all the information presented here are from the novel and it differs from real history.
I wish you make a similar video but sticking as close as possible to real history instead. Some very important characters were shafted for drama and to make Liu Bei appear more virtuous than he really is for example.
I had time to read the entire novel twice and I also had time to watch the 2010 series from episode 1 all the way to episode 92 and watch that about five times over throughout my life only one I never really got into was the 1990s version I don't know I just found the acting to be horrible but this was a great documentary thank you way to sum it all up
@@johnpaulmistretta9360 The problem with 1993 version is that it is hard to find online. I love the style because it uses the actual novel as a script (and the background bzzzzzzz from poor audio quality is so relaxing)
Out of all franchises I have never known that one for being toxic or unhappy. I really was glad to buy the first when it was trying to imitate Soul Blade but still a fun game
Holy... I can't imagine the amount of work you have put on this. I have been a fan of the three kingdoms since the 90s when it was presented to me briefly in Universal literature. I really appreciate your work, can't thank you enough :D
Quick summary for me. War sucks. I'm glad China is finally united. It won't stop foreign countries trying to divide the yellow pearl. Source [Super China] Then & Now | From Ashes to Prosperity. ua-cam.com/video/uLqJQPr9TD4/v-deo.html Happy new year 🐨
I ran into Three Kingdoms when I was 10 years old, through KOEI's first war strategy game (just after their first "Nobunaga's Ambition".) Being 10 years old, I was hooked.
As somone that's played most of the Dynasty Warriors games growing up I was familiar with alot of the names and the battles but this was the first time I heard the actual story. Thanks for making this I really enjoyed it
and wonder, why they is what if and hypothetical scenarios as well as altered personalities of the officiers. you can think koei and player's imaginations for that.
Was left out of this video, but the story of how Deng Ai scaled the mountain in Shu , and had his men wrap themselves up in blankets so they could roll down the steep mountain to attack an undefended area of Shu was pretty epic.
I kind of felt the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is more of a lesson on the cycle of chaos and order of civilization. From corruption to chaos, from chaos to order, from order to prosperity, and from prosperity to corruption again. Great portrayal of this historical masterpiece nontheless.
Some commentators make note of this as well. One Idea I have read about is that the changes of the I Ching are imposed behind the scenes in the background reflecting these ebbs and flows.
Agreed. It has many interesting takeaways. Not only a lesson on the inevitable cycles of dynasties rising and falling, but a lesson on "every person and hero, no matter how great their deeds, will be washed away by the sands of time and the only things that "last forever" are the mighty rivers that wash them away (told in the poem "Linjiangxian 臨江仙" that was added to later revisions of the novel). Liu Bei's story specifically is a lesson that "no matter how hard you try, you simply can't fight against the Will of Heaven/Heaven's Mandate (天命). It's a very poignant story.
ROTK Novel: 120 Chapters ROTK '94: 84 Episodes TK 2010: 95 Episodes Opening Line: "The empire, long divided, must unite, long united, must divide." Closing Line: "The empire, long united, must divide, long divided, must unite."
Great video. Please let me add a few interesting details. 1.When Yuan Shao asked Sun Jian about the seal ,Sun Jian said :"If i took the seal,I will die of arrows and falling rocks." And that's the way he died. 2.Before Yuan Shu died.He asked his servant for honey water. The servant replied:"There is no honey water, only blood water!"Yuan Shu then died of anger. 3.In the Battle of Changban,Zhao Yun killed over 50 Cao Cao's generals on his own.Seeing how brave Zhao Yun is,Cao Cao commanded not to shoot arrows in order to catch Zhao Yun alive. 4.The image of Ma Su is wrong. The one on the image is actually Ma Liang(马良),Ma Su's elder brother. He is famous of his white eyebrows. sorry for my bad english.I will post more if anyone is interested in this
I'm pretty sure Zhao Yun killing 50 Cao Cao's generals was greatly exaggerated though. I still wished the creator can clarify some of the information that was made up by the books.
I just finished reading the entire 4 volume series. This summary was a great way to visually see what was going on as well as the positioning of the different armies. Great video!
A complete telling of the entire story in such a digestible way has been desperately needed for a long time now. As a kid, I loved the Dynasty Warrior games and as I got older, I wanted to learn about it. Being such a long book, most people online who sought out to retell the story never finishing their projects, it was finally nice to learn exactly how it ended. It's even better now knowing it did not end in a great war, but a sad murmur. Thank you.
"sad murmur", such a great way to put it. Reading the Encyclopedias late at night after you're done raging against whatever BS challenge map, with that melancholic BGM playing, really makes you nostalgic and teary eyed for a 2000 year old tragedy that you were never there for.
I just wanted to leave a comment on how much I love these videos. I keep coming back to them when I can't sleep. They've also given me a deep appreciation for the actual history behind these figures. Tomorrow, I'm introducing my 70 year old mom to these tales, videos, and the historical importance of them. She's beyond excited!
Romance of the three kingdoms primary romance was looking more like "Cao Cao: quest for them b*tches" for the first half of the video. Part two was "Zhuge Liang troll fest" followed by "Worst decision of 2/3 kingdoms" and finally, the suffering of the three kingdoms. Which proves that no one is perfect but even more, no one is exactly like another. Had they not been backstabbers and traitors, Wu could have worked with Shu to get rid of Wei, had Shu's leader not been overwhelmed by personal emotions, they could have worked together to get rid of Wei. And had Wei been better to their people, they probably could have survived till the end. But even then, Zhuge Liang didn't want to rule, so when he foresaw the corruption, he let it continue as he focused on trying to defeat Wei, Wu's endless betrayals to their allies lead to familial betrayals, and Wei fell to the same plot that their first leader had done to start off his own rise to power.
219 - 223 was genuinely a series of tragedies. Xiahou Yuan, Xiahou Dun, Cao Cao, Cao Ren, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, Huang Zhong, Guan Yu, Lu Meng, Sun ShangXiang, and a couple others all died pretty much sequentially(Not in respective order of how I listed them mind you). "Revenge is a fool's game" - Arthur Morgan If only Liu Bei had kept his emotions in check.
Kind of poetic really. Liu Bei died for the same reason his empire fell, blind loyalty And you can also look at it like he died when Guan Yu died, both him and Zhang Fei just needed to rush to make it official, so they could keep there promise
This is where it's very interesting to compare and contrast the novel from the history. It's not all about emotions, historically speaking (even though the novel basically made it sound like he launched a counter-invasion in a fit of rage literally right after he got the news of Guan Yu). In fact, the Battle of Xiaoting (Liu Bei's re-invasion of Jing Province) didn't take place about a year and a half, maybe even more, after Guan Yu's death. Plenty of time for him to cool off his emotions. And here's why it was important for him to retake Jing from both a strategic standpoint and a political one, without any emotions involved: It's not a secret that Liu Bei had no actual intention of "returning" Jing Province to Sun Quan. Jing Province was one of the most, if not one of the only, prosperous provinces in China after their decades long civil war (still technically ongoing at that time IMO even though the Han Dynasty was officially ended by Cao Pi). It made no sense to give it up from a resource standpoint. Not only this, but Zhuge Liang's plan to invade Wei was hinged on them having both Yi and Jing province to provide two points to launch an invasion from. As much as he tried to make it work, he knew from the beginning that there was little to no chance to defeat Cao Cao/Wei if he didn't have both Jing Province and an official alliance with Sun Quan. This is why it was strategically important to control Jing Province. So Sun Quan decided to form a secret alliance with Cao Cao so he could safely order Lu Meng to launch a surprise invasion against Liu Bei while Guan Yu essentially left Jing Province unguarded while away on campaign fighting Cao Ren (a decision that wasn't unwise, considering it seemed like the Liu-Sun alliance was stable at the time). If Liu Bei didn't retaliate after Lu Meng captured his holdings in Jing Province and executed Guan Yu, it would have been a signal to Wu that they can just renege on their alliance, commit acts of aggression, and do whatever they want to with no repercussions. This is why it was politically important to try to take it back after it was lost. He HAD to do something after Guan Yu's death. He lost Jing almost without a fight, as many of his holdings simply surrendered or actively betrayed Liu Bei when they saw Lu Meng's army approaching. The alternative was letting everyone know that he's too weak to retaliate when someone acts aggressively toward him.
Liu feng totally screwed up the Shu Empire when he inadvertently let Guan Yu be killed by not reinforcing him. Even if the campaign is lost anyway, Guan Yu could had been extracted alive. you had one job, Liu Feng. one job, and you totally screwed it up just because you're petty hearted and lazy. Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei are like 3 bodies, one soul. You let one be killed, it's the same as killing the other two. Betraying Guan Yu IS the same as betraying Liu Bei. Sadly, 'liu feng' types are common everywhere, people who think what they have is truly theirs, and got so drunk on power they fail to see the big picture.
I showed my mom the netflix adaption and told her it's a movie about actual chinese history. All was going fine until the three sworn brothers and Lu Bu started shooting lightning, fire, and laser beams at each other while surfing on rocks while falling down a cliff, then Guan Yu or Lu Bu (I forgot) rode the Red Hare sideways as it did a wall run on the side of the cliff.
For Guan Yu's 1000 mile journey you should clarify that an ancient chinese mile=/=a modern mile, a chinese mile is/was about 1/3 of an english mile. So for us it would be a 333 mile journey.
@@blackcatpack Yeah but it seems unrealistic to a modern audience until you consider the difference, also tbh i think a 333 mile journey sounds cooler.
EP4 : Sleeping dragon is so smart . he didn't beg them to fight , he made them to fight by advising a king and a general to give their wives to Cao Cao :D
I have read the novels, watched the serial movies, and played it's games, now I watched the summarized. Every time I check this in each media, I found something new sub story in it.
Seriously it's like comparing Mahabharata to Harry Potter. Those are two entirely different mediums. However what presists is the chaos vs order trope which is simply timeless. Edit: While I've only read two books from the saga of Ice and Fire I'd say that it has more plots than RotK.
Lol, RotK just like a civil war, but with marvelous backstabbing and politics. Game of Thrones is built different; politics/civil war (Westeros), conquest (Daenarys Conquest), Mystical Beast (Dragons), end of the world (Winter is coming). The show can't cover all, it only cover small part of world of ice and fire, game of thrones world is so big.
Having more plots doesn't automatically equal good. I wish we could get back to determining if a story is actually good or interesting, instead of modern day pissing contests of "most story"
1:23:30 actually this scene, Sima Yi Knew that there is no ruse. There is no one in the base but he knew once he killed zhuge liang, the campaign would be over and shu would be destroyed overnight which then the emperor of wei wouldnt need sima yi and would strip his position due to his nature of wanting power. Zhuge liang also knew that Sima Yi wanted power and wouldnt want to end the campaign like this because he will get nothing so they both understand each other goals and thus sima yi retreated.
As a chinese who reads three kingdoms from youth, I have to acknowledge that your understanding is even much better than mine and your presentation is high quality.
I believe the actual quote, roughly translated is "milk milk, lemonade. Around the corner, fudge is made." Lemonade and fudge having been invented the previous year.
Is this a Christian influence on the story? It's Cao Cao's most villainous moment, and his quote is basically an inversion of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
This was awesome! I mean, I still want to read the book, but this was a nice sample of it (at least I can assume). Thank you for taking the time to make this. 🖤 The Cao Cao running counter and Liu Bei trader counter were both hilarious additions 😆
Reciprocity is a powerful motivator for most people plus Chinese culture emphasizes it way more than the west. People argue about who gets to pay the dinner bill. As in, they all want to do it. The slick ones go to the counter before the meal is over and pay before others get the chance.
So... after playing Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3, and Kessen 2, I read the abridged version of this book and even wrote a paper on it in high school. I later read the full thing, and I still play Dynasty Warriors games, and more recently Total War Three Kingdoms. The time period is very interesting and its romantisized novelization just has great characters which make for an excellent setting for video games. Great animation. Thank you for sharing.
I played dynasty warriors during my youth, taking interest to each character history by reading their logs one by one. This summary is very entertaining yet informative.. Well done! 👏👏👏
Having played and knowing the story by heart (at least from dw) for years, I'm so happy to have found this video. Great job on this! It's funny hearing the names and picturing their dynasty warrior looks in my head.
It's great that someone can present this fanicinating novel and Three Kindoms ara in English, wish to see more of this kind of works being told as there's truely a lot of great stories in Chinese history.
No, the emperor did not send the blood edict to just Cao Cao during his escape from Li Jue and Guo Si but in fact he sent it to anyone that could reach him in time as he moved towards Luoyang from Chang'an and the letter reached to two of the nearest warlord, Yuan Shao and Cao Cao. Yuan Shao actually thought of receiving the emperor and both Tian Kai and Xun Yu both surprisingly agreed that that was the best choice. However, Guo Tu disagreed and even fervently talked trash about how the other two that supported it was dumb. Xun Yu stated that having the emperor is a boon as the emperor is weak and with Yuan Shao being the regent, he could make edicts in the name of the emperor and the emperor have no choice but to comply. Tian Kai then also added that because of that, Yuan Shao suddenly have the legitimacy of being the main regent as he has already been working for the previous emperor and have actual nobility status being that the Yuan clan has been working under the imperial family in high places for decades and even centuries ago thus he has all the legitimacy that he could become the regent of the Han Empire and with the emperor being in Luoyang, it would just take their forces 2 days of forced march to intercept the emperor and once they're there, everything would be fine and the empire could be under Yuan Shao's control to split, rule and conquer, all under the emperor's name. However, Guo Tu argued that the emperor is a curse and like the imperial seal, whoever takes in the emperor would be a problem. He brought out Dong Zhuo, Guo Si and Li Jue's name that all 3 of them held the emperor and while one was dead, the other 2 was in total turmoil and at the constant risk of invasion from others thus keeping the emperor for himself would only bring more trouble from the others to go and attack Ye. He also pointed out that regardless of what Yuan Shao's status is, his position was never higher than the emperor but if the emperor isn't at Ye, he's the highest amongst everyone. However if he was to bring the emperor to Ye as Luoyang was nothing but a whole heap of ruin, people in Northern China wouldn't bend down to Yuan Shao like he did anymore as the emperor would be the highest authority and whatever verdict and edict that he gave to the people of Northern China would suddenly be nulled as people would respect the emperor more than Yuan Shao himself if the emperor was brought back to Ye and Guo Tu even screamed at the other two for wasting everyone's time for even bringing it out and as they've just beaten Gongsun Zan, they din't have enough strength at that point to hold the invasive attacks that were bound to come if they held the emperor and it would be better for the "weaker" Cao Cao to take the emperor and let the others attack him and weaken him more. Yuan Shao decided to trust Guo Tu as he too believed the emperor was nothing but a curse and believing that it would make Cao Cao even more unlucky, he passed on the chance to Cao Cao which, was the biggest foolish thing he ever did as what Xun Yu had brought up DID happen. Cao Cao used the emperor's name and made edicts and soon after went for everyone's territories "in the name of the Han court" and unlike what Guo Tu had said, Cao Cao was relatively strong (Not as strong as Yuan Shao but still strong) after he gobbled up the entire of Xu. Worse still for Yuan Shao, all the unluckiness thing that Guo Tu had said even happened to Cao Cao as it was him who went after everyone and not everyone going after him.
I have been a massive fan of the Dynasty Warriors games for years, with a special mention to Kessen 2 also. I can tell a lot of effort went into this video and it was great to recognise some events as they unfold in the games, whilst also discovering things I didn't know. Great job!
This video was a blast. Clearly, a tremendous lot of hard work went into this one. You did an exceptional job, adapting 120 chapters In such a clear and concise way. Cheers!
Actually nobody got to eat the rice cake given that the Sima clan started to assassinate and then go to war with each other right after they reunited China, resulting in their regime starting to collapse in less than a decade.
Love the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I got my start with it from Dynasty Warriors, and very quickly started digging deeper into the actual story afterwards. It was hard at first because like... I was like 10 back when DW3 was released, but over the years its been getting easier and easier. Absolutely one of the greatest stories ever written, up there right next to the Iliad and the Odyssey as classics of ancient literature. While I'm super familiar with it by the time I found this video, this video makes a great introduction to people who want to get deeper into the story after discovering it from other sources.
Wow, this was absolutely amazing. What a masterpiece. Being a long time gamer I was fascinated by modern by-products of this famous story - be it Dynasty Warriors, RoTK strategy games or even crazy crossovers like Warriors Orochi. But I could never get myself to familiarise with the original story. Time and time again I kept coming back to the dreaded book, but could never reach the end. And finally, for the first time, I learned of this story from beginning to end. And moreover, having this framework in my head it feels a lot more comfortable to tackle other pieces of media about this topic. Like, this is a really great starting point. Thank you for making such a great video.
I heard most of this story in bits and pieces coming up in a Liu household long before I got into RtK and DW, the story is so good that even embellishment cannot explain the grandeur away.
This is such an incredible contribution to cultural understanding across our ever shrinking world. And it's a lot of fun, too. The definition of Cool for all the History Bros (and Sisses) out there. Thank you!
thank you for the remarkable work of presenting ROTK in such an easy to follow way with the use of lively animation and colorful maps. without the latter it would be difficult to imagine where the states are and who are their lords. Thumbs up for detailed presentation
This was excellent! Thanks for putting this together. Chinese history, to me, is a good microcosm/macrocosm of how to and how not to properly administer a working administration. It shows what humans are capable of accomplishing, both "good" and "bad".
i dont like how the Zhang Fei is portrait in the show, historicly he was kind of the rich boy of the three brothers, his familly owned a butcher shop and a vinery, in those times, hell even today if u own 2 buissnesses, you aint dumb or poor. he was educated . and Liu Bei was the one who beat the official. but i know this is romace version. great job, i enjoyd watching it ! here have a thumb up and a sub !
I've read the Three Kingdoms historical novel four times after playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms on Sega Genesis for years. This video was a wonderful way to enjoy the story without having to put in the multiple weeks it took to read. Definitely my favorite story. Thank you.
Yes! My father back in the 90s played this series first on the SNES. Since then I was not content to play. I wanted to know the actual story. I don't know many that have touched this series but it's a special epic that I've longed to know more about. Masterfully done. (Especially with my American heritage and those damned names. Glad to know the actual pronunciations)
My dad liked the NES version! He would play and explain every move, and as I got older, he'd have me dictate the game to him, to the point that he'd boot it up, and I'd tell him every step.
The end of the novel is extremely tragic, more so because it becomes a story about the consequences of the great heroes, of their successors, many of whom never asked to fight in this war. Almost like the fable of mythical heroes eventually meets the reality of what war is. Despite their flaws, I always had a sympathy for those who lived at the end of Shu, Wu, and the formation of Jin, as they are perhaps more tired than their forefathers were.
i'm currently reading Romance of Three Kingdoms and it's been tough following along sometimes (because of all the many characters and scenes going on). This summary video really helps me understand the important parts and also solidify my understanding after I read a chapter. Thank you!
55:27-56:22 Zhou Yu (styled Gongjin) did try to get rid of Zhuge Liang (styled Kongming) by this method, but the mistake is that the animated said that he only gave Zhuge Liang three days. Zhou Yu wanted to give him ten days to make 100,000 arrows with a lack of supplies to kill him, but Zhuge Liang dared to say that making 100,000 arrows is too dangerous and decided to make the arrows in three days, by signing on a military paper as a promise.
My introduction to this Story, was funnily enough Dynasty Warriors ... I then went on to read the Tuttle Volumes in college (in entirety, in one semester, for 1 of 4 classes) My take: Great Story, but reading the Volumes is almost like reading Stories within a Story (Could think of each battle as a Story/Arch, etc.). Almost like a literal version of a Netflix Series, but actually has a planned end
Yep. A lot of Chinese epics are written like this so that story tellers that work at tea canteens(pretty much the only way for peasants to actually interact with someone who had some cultural and sociopolitical knowledge) to tell stories in episodes. So like episode 1 for day one, episode 2 for day 2 and so on. So basically these epics were written to be promoted by word of mouth, since literacy was still very rare in ancient china. These epics really game the peasants a window into the future or past for them to fantasize about. I’m actually very surprised that nobody has mentioned this aspect of Chinese epics before in this comment section. Also not to mention the titles of these “episodes” were written to very briefly summarize the story of the episode, and were very memorable. In fact some of these titles were so iconic that parts of the titles actually became widely spoken idioms or expressions.
I've always wanted to read romance of the three kingdoms, but it is just so long LOL this is one of the best videos that I've ever seen on UA-cam. The art and animation was fantastic! I subscribed to the channel. Can't wait to check out more of the videos
This video is a great refresher! I have read the whole story, but that was when I was around thirteen or so. Given that I have a terrible memory for most things and I'm currently twenty-nine, I'm very glad to have sources like this to help me learn all over again. Besides, what little I typically remember is from what I watch in film and tv rather than what I read. Needless to say documentaries are my friend lol
Amazing collection of work, this is easily the most digestible version of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms I've ever seen, absolutely fantastic work congratulations.
Read the full ROTK a few years ago. You covered it well and with amazing depth and analysis. Much better than my recollection. I am still to read other Chinese classics like the Water Margin, Journey to the West, and Dream of Red Chamber. Fancy making videos of these treasures?
I SIMPLY LOVE THIS - I grew up playing RTK on the Nintendo and got to know/play almost all the players I wanted to read the book, but it's just too long for my peanut brain. THANK YOU for making this video simplified, informative, educational, and even fun to watch (I love the English slang drops)!
My respect for Zhuge Liang skyrocketed after watching this video. Must be a cool dude to hang around with at the time, too bad hes surrounded by buffoon.
Reflecting on what you mentioned, the Sima Family managed to incorporate all 3 kingdoms' values and successfully unified the country. 1) The generals under them are loyal and they are not blindly loyal to Wei. They may not restore Han but they restore Chinese civilization and prestige back to pre-Han times 2) They pick competent generals regardless of bloodlines as seen with Deng Ai and the rest. They only backstab Wei because they kept pushing their boundaries. They pick the right timings to prioritize their self-interests as shown by Cao Shuang when Sima Yi choose to feign illness for 10 years 3) Embodying Wu's value of family vassals, Sima Family managed to have loyal retainers and do not seem to have the high level of infighting that you see among the Cao Cao Family and Sun families. The Sima Brothers even work closely together to consolidate power and coordinate their strategic moves well. However, those factors also contributed to the downfall of Jin Dynasty as well and cause the War of the 8 princes.
a neat coincidence is Liu Bei and Hideyoshi both were involved with Sandals, Cao Cao and Nobunaga were considered cruel and powerful, and Sun Jian and Ieyasu had given their lands to their sons who both became kings of their lands.
real piece of master work. I believe I can catch up without being a Chinese myself. The great thing is, history bro managed to not making the names of people and places a mess to the foreigners, and by using the great art work of faces, it makes the characters very distinguished and memorable, nice.
As someone who watch rotk, read their novel, play dynasty warrior, rotk game, searching all the info elsewhere, this is well explained. Thanks for amount of hard work you put into. I love these Chinese story for real. Just so sad the shu han benevolence kingdom crumble to the very down. In the game liu shan is still commanding army and charming leader. In Wikipedia he never thinking about participating in battle they have gotten into, well playing with the ladies and damn eunuch. Once again thank you, this is Masterpiece 🎉
I started reading 3K some months ago (still on volume 1), I love the summary work done here, it refocuses the narrative concisely and the animation is fantastic. Thank you kindly. P.S. the narrator was very coherent, and I love the genuine pronunciation of names.
Man I feel sorry for Xu Shu. After his mother found out that he fell for Cao Cao tricks, she commit suicide and now Xu Shu is now working for him but vow that he never share his tactics with him.
Thank you very much... I am a Cantonese my ancestors are from Amon, China. Me and my Father was born in tge Philippines I have little knowledge about Chinese History, but i finish my primary at chinese schools
i don't really have much to say, after finishing the series i'm more just sitting and thinking about it. however, i'm leaving a comment to increase the video engagement rates, as this kind of effort and quality deserves as much recognition as possible. great video
Just when I'm in need to understand the whole story in a short time ! Thank-you 🙊❤️ tried to read the whole chinese novel but I'm incapable of finishing it.
Love the video so far. This is one of my favorite books! 16:25 it’s important to note Li Jue, Guo Si, and the two other generals all ask for amnesty and are denied that. They are forced to fight for their lives and cleverly defeat Lu Bu.

One Idea I have read about is that the changes of the I Ching are imposed behind the scenes in the background reflecting these ebbs and flows.
yes, It's summarised by the Author at the very beginning of the Novel - the first line of the text “话说天下大势 分久必合 合久必分 周末七国分争并入于秦 秦灭之后楚汉分争 又并入于汉..."
Very much an illustration of ‘hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times’.
@@PapaOscarNovember Very much not actually. Get your fascist-lite historically illiterate theory out of here.

I'm pretty sure Zhao Yun killing 50 Cao Cao's generals was greatly exaggerated though. I still wished the creator can clarify some of the information that was made up by the books.

Welcome to travel to China and experience the rich Chinese culture
i watched all 95 episodes of the 2010 drama. supposedly its the greatest show made in china ever and even as a korean, i loved it
Romance of the three kingdoms primary romance was looking more like "Cao Cao: quest for them b*tches" for the first half of the video.
Part two was "Zhuge Liang troll fest" followed by "Worst decision of 2/3 kingdoms"
and finally, the suffering of the three kingdoms.
27:47 WHAT?!?!? That's F****n DARK!!!!!
Liu Bei: "Hmm, this meal is delicious"
Hunter: "Thank you, it was made with a huge contribution from my wife."
"Revenge is a fool's game" - Arthur Morgan
If only Liu Bei had kept his emotions in check.
My guess is that they enjoy their time together . So they went to see each other in heaven to continue writting more chapters
Nah Liu Bei probably also has died inside since his two brother died, thats why he went revenge
Kind of poetic really. Liu Bei died for the same reason his empire fell, blind loyalty
And you can also look at it like he died when Guan Yu died, both him and Zhang Fei just needed to rush to make it official, so they could keep there promise
And here's why it was important for him to retake Jing from both a strategic standpoint and a political one, without any emotions involved:
It's not a secret that Liu Bei had no actual intention of "returning" Jing Province to Sun Quan.
All was going fine until the three sworn brothers and Lu Bu started shooting lightning, fire, and laser beams at each other while surfing on rocks while falling down a cliff, then Guan Yu or Lu Bu (I forgot) rode the Red Hare sideways as it did a wall run on the side of the cliff.
yooo how did she react

For Guan Yu's 1000 mile journey you should clarify that an ancient chinese mile=/=a modern mile, a chinese mile is/was about 1/3 of an english mile. So for us it would be a 333 mile journey.
1000 miles is just a stylistic device to describe a long long journey not an exact range.
@@blackcatpack Yeah but it seems unrealistic to a modern audience until you consider the difference, also tbh i think a 333 mile journey sounds cooler.

I have read the novels, watched the serial movies, and played it's games, now I watched the summarized. Every time I check this in each media, I found something new sub story in it.
A romance that has more plots than Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones combined
The show can't cover all, it only cover small part of world of ice and fire, game of thrones world is so big.
what about Legend of the Galactic Heroes
There's so many people, so much betrayal, so much intricacy, it makes Game of Thrones look like a Dr Seuss publication. - Oversimplified
It's my sleepover and I get to pick the movie.
1:11:52. In the book, It is said that Cao Cao died because of the shock of seeing Guan Yu's head with its angry face staring at him.
That’s hilarious. 😂

"Hau Xiong was just a midboss, and he (Lu Bu) was to real deal."
After playing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, I felt this statement.
Ah, I felt that statement in my stance bar.
Cao Cao historical quote is: "I rather betray, than be betrayed. "
there is no "world", that was added for dramatic effect.
“ 寧我負人,毋人負我 “
Except that is a fictional quote. What Cao Cao really said "I rather let others down than have others let me down".
I believe the actual quote, roughly translated is "milk milk, lemonade. Around the corner, fudge is made." Lemonade and fudge having been invented the previous year.
nah it was i rather lie, than let other lie to me
Is this a Christian influence on the story? It's Cao Cao's most villainous moment, and his quote is basically an inversion of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
This was awesome! I mean, I still want to read the book, but this was a nice sample of it (at least I can assume). Thank you for taking the time to make this. 🖤
The Cao Cao running counter and Liu Bei trader counter were both hilarious additions 😆

I'm only 10 minutes into this series and I am absolutely in love with your narration style!
Dang, Guo Tu sounded very logical but turns out he was wrong… Yuan Shao came so close

Just love the drawings and how clearly this was presented.

This is exactly what I am reading and watching right now. Indeed, 三国演义 is one of the greatest book ever written.
This was excellent! Thanks for putting this together. Chinese history, to me, is a good microcosm/macrocosm of how to and how not to properly administer a working administration. It shows what humans are capable of accomplishing, both "good" and "bad".

A very underrated video, it needs more attention, very well done
I must admit, though I've read it, there were pieces I'd totally forgotten. Great summary.
I have read the novel after playing the dynasty warrior games and watched the adaptations. I also came to know of your videos. They are amazing.

Zhou Yu (styled Gongjin) did try to get rid of Zhuge Liang (styled Kongming) by this method, but the mistake is that the animated said that he only gave Zhuge Liang three days.
I then went on to read the Tuttle Volumes in college (in entirety, in one semester, for 1 of 4 classes)
My take: Great Story, but reading the Volumes is almost like reading Stories within a Story (Could think of each battle as a Story/Arch, etc.).

Reflecting on what you mentioned, the Sima Family managed to incorporate all 3 kingdoms' values and successfully unified the country.
1) The generals under them are loyal and they are not blindly loyal to Wei. They may not restore Han but they restore Chinese civilization and prestige back to pre-Han times
2) They pick competent generals regardless of bloodlines as seen with Deng Ai and the rest. They only backstab Wei because they kept pushing their boundaries. They pick the right timings to prioritize their self-interests as shown by Cao Shuang when Sima Yi choose to feign illness for 10 years
3) Embodying Wu's value of family vassals, Sima Family managed to have loyal retainers and do not seem to have the high level of infighting that you see among the Cao Cao Family and Sun families.
