As an aging guy myself, I greatly admire how Nick Lowe has aged gracefully, making quieter music and enhancing, rather than covering up, his old man looks. Therefore I was especially curious to see how today he would perform pedal-to-the-metal rockers like Heart of the City. And here it is, slowed down and toned down, but still with plenty of groove, along with a killer guitar solo from Los Straightjackets. What else can I say...Nick Lowe is pure class.
I agree. But "I love the sound of breaking glass" tune was rather gentle and yet sent emotion. "Little Hitler" and "36 inches high" are great tunes.
Nick Lowe and the Rockpile with Dave Edmunds was a great energetic band.
As an aging guy, I'm saddened that he muted his rock n roll.
Still rocks just creaks a little too. One of the finest musicians around. Trombone is my funeral song. Love the man. Love from Liverpool x
Indeed
I’m glad it took everybody three decades to catch up with what I knew all along first time I heard him on the radio. He’s a genius I love him to pieces love him to bits.
Yessss. Love him, too. Discovered "Cruel to be kind" just a few months ago and am now going thru all his songs and interviews. So wonderful.
It's ironic when a 70 year old British pensioner rocks it just hard as anyone around.
I remember as a 13 year old buying Cruel To Be Kind in 7" vinyl in a decent picture bag and sitting on the bus home from school holding it, looking at it just as if it was a priceless treasure. I got in and ran straight up to my bedroom and stuck it on my record player. I couldn't believe how good that record sounded. I must have played it a dozen times on the trot and it just better and better.
40 years later it still sounds good. That's class and class endures.
Buy it from "Woolies"?

D'ya know what, I do believe I did! It was either there or Boots, back when Boots sold records and didn't charge extortionate prices for stuff.
Great music with elegance and groove. What a classy guy Nick Lowe is. Gotta love him.
UA-cam just put a giant smile on my brain when this showed up on my screen. Mr. Stream you have made my day. Mr. Lowe and and the Straitjackets were a match in music heaven. Thank you so much for sharing.
Nick Lowe is a genius , absolutely loved him in Rockpile. And what a magnificent songwriter , guitarist , & singer. Like ability & Charisma He has it all . great to see him still doing what he loves in his 70’s , a pure inspiration
Wow, What a great concert. I wish I was there!!!!!
Absolutely magnificent. I was privileged to see them at Birmingham Town Hall. The master craftsman of songwriting, singing in his 70s as well as ever, backed by a versatile and entertaining band in their own right. You Inspire Me was the unexpected highlight, the guitar work raised it to a higher level.
One of the most under appreciated artist in music...
plndv3363 in a great many ways that’s how he has chosen to do it. Gives him a lot more freedom that way. So he can do stuff like record with John Hiatt then do Little Village or go out on tour as part of Boz Scaggs back up band or even do these Los Straightjacket tours. Still writes great songs, records his little records and they don’t cost too much to make so there isn’t a ton of money to pay back touring like crazy. He’s got respect and admiration for sure.
Not by me and those who have had the pleasure of listening to his music
Not really. I've dug Nick since his days with Brinsley Schwarz. His impact has been impressive especially when you look at the bands that he produced. He is certainly more appreciated than Lou Whitney (the Skeletons and the Morells) may he RIP. And there's Rockpile what a killer band!!! I saw him a couple of times as a trio with Ry Cooder and Jim Keltner
@@mlwsf Especially when you consider what he did to get released by UA in the early 80s.
@@hellbillybilly4770 what about Hiatt? Not a trio at all
Two of my favorite artists/bands on one stage. Heaven.👍😎
Very nice show. The music of Nick Lowe is a pretty constant companion in my automobile. The new stuff. Old. Rockpile. Brinsley... I'm down with Lowe.
I am 62 years old, how the f ##@@$$%^k did I miss this group !!!!!!!

Saw him at the Isle of Wight festival he was holding all together on a wet afternoon in the Big Top tent there all ages loved him
Lowe is cool
Still doing his thanggg...go you!..from a fellow Brentonian 🙌🏾🙋🏽♀️
I've seen Nick Lowe twice. The first time with Little Village which was a great show (John Hiatt, Ry Cooder and Jim Keltner were all awesome as usual). Years later a show in Ann Arbor at The Ark. Great to see him up close at a small venue!
Wow, wow, whoaaa... top musicians, Nick you're a master of rock
long live pub rock
Well all right then, two of my faves! Thank you or sharing.
Los Straitjackets make an awesome backup band. I saw them backup Marshall Crenshaw. Another great show.
I Got Nick's 1st Solo Album in 1978? And Only Much Later Did I Learn About BRINZ BAND - And I Really Am Still So Impressed By That First Album And The Ones Following. I Didn't Realize Back Then That The Musicians On The Album Were ROCKPILE (I Think).
I got 3 j200s but I’d love to add Nicks to my collection. What an artist, and the band ain’t too shabby. Rock on Nick. Fab.
Yet another show I so desperately wanted to go to. Again, this is why The Current is the best.
On an ill-fated date when I was in college, I heard "Cruel to Be Kind" on an AM radio station out of Worcester, Mass. and I never saw the girl again but I have been hooked on Nick Lowe ever since! I wore out two vinyl copies of Labour of Lust in about three months. I bought the CD a few years later and that is still in great condition although that is amazing since I still play it all the time! I love Nick's solo stuff, and his stuff with Rockpile, Elvis Costello's version of (What's So Funny About) Peace Love and Understanding and his own version also. "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll" -- both his version and the Dave Edmunds version. The Rose of England; So It Goes; I Live On A Battlefield; on and on. I actually had a conversation with the best-selling novelist Stephen King at Fenway Park about Nick Lowe (King's favorite Nick song of course is "Marie Provost") ... I loved Rockpile, I loved Brinsley Schwarz and I loved his Cowboy Outfit, but I must say Los Straitjackets are right up there! Thanks to the Current for posting this excellent concert. My wife is from Minnesota and whenever we go there for a visit my car radio is always set to the Current and you never disappoint!
Wow - what great stories! So glad you enjoy the video - thanks so much, Dave! 😊
Plus the best backing band ever. Don't get much better
THIS RULES!!! very well recorded. nicely edited. looks great sounds great!! LOS STRAITJACKETS RULE!!
Great time With Nick!!!
It’s great to see an old fave still having so much fun with some kicking rock’n’rollers.
This whole thing is such a treat!!
What a fantastic show, thanks for sharing!!
What a GEM!!
Oh my goodness this is incredible. Proshot and great sound. Greg Townson's solo on 'You Inspire Me' is amazing, what's more amazing is the camera catches the whole thing. Saw 3 shows this year on the UK jaunt, and as luck would have it they play in Perth Australia next year while I'm there on vacation. Happy days.
Nice shout out to Danny Amis. Great show and set list.
Heel erg matig concert van Nick 😂😂😢😮😅😊🎉
Still pure pop for now people
Those Straighjackets are so incredibly talented!! A perfect blend with Nick.
Got to love Los Straitjackets, perfect band for Nick and damn fine on their own. Love their version of My Heart Will Go On: tongues firmly in cheek I assume, you can't see them!
LOVE this guy!!!
Nick let the Straightjackets play an encore.
Great show, all around!
Saw this show in Atlanta and Los Straitjackets got their own set mid-show. Great show all around. Sound was much better than on this video.
The Basher sounding great.
Thank you! Really enjoyed this! And So It Goes!
That was a good show!
Love the straight jackets.... haven't seen them since my last El-Vez show.
Excellent! What else can be said? 😃👑👍🏻✅🎶🎸🕺
Whew....that was rough!
Nick the Knife, always a top man 🎸👍🎸
Great job by Los Straightjackets
What tool could give a thumbs down to this ? Nick is an institution and backed by the best surf-rock band currently on the planet?
I know!!! Wtf?!!! La-who-sa-hers!
Correct af
That you can call Nick "an institution" is precisely the problem. Rockpile was a rebellion not an institution.
@@nicmart Hello Sir, it has been many years since Mr. Lowe has played anything close to the way Rockpile had. He has reinvented himself into a new product, hence my comment. Peace
@@user-kc3oc9yy5j Yes, he reinvented himself. Bland and forgettable crooner. What makes reinvention a virtue?
A master class
What a surprise. I was at this show.
Wow!!! You are so lucky!!!! Killer show.
Excellent concert
Watching at april 21..And fascinated
Saw him In Toronto at The Horseshoe a few weeks ago - same shirt. Hope there is a laundry ! Great show - fab man and "new band".
I saw this show in Glasgow. Easily in my top three gigs of all time.
Just stumbled across this. Knockout!
Love you Nick Lowe
Great treat that one
1:33:18 - Boy, talk about on pitch! He nails this whole concert like he is 25.
Love NICKY LOWE - Good Voice!
Saw them and Elvis Costello last night. Great show
I thoroughly enjoyed this.
TY!!- loving this!
The master.... Nick Lowe !
What’s better than this?
What a suave gent. Nick is cool. Great band. Shame the camerawork and editing is a little random, but appreciate the low fi approach, and it gets better as they go along.
I've seen far worse editing.
With Los Straitjackets!!?? 2 great tastes that taste great together!!
Still the Jesus Of Cool.
The Basher !
WOW~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Jackets are out of sight listen to Townsons guitar work on Tokyo Bay!
When asked who is your guitar hero, I say "Eddie Angel"
nice reference to guitar solo of kinks during heart of the city by eddie eddie eddie
11:08 Laulette ❤️🙂 Te amo
🥰🥰🥰 te amoooo❤❤❤
I saw Chuck Berry in 1985, so he was about 58-59. I mean it was great because it was Chuck Berry...but pound for pound Nick is slaughtering Chuck here at 70 years old. In spite of a slightly weak drummer, Los Straightjackets provide a full, layered sound behind Mr. Lowe.
Eddie Angel is one cool cat!
can someone PLEASE make a DVD of this for me?????
Breaking glass version is ace
Ringo's drum solo from Abbey Road at the end of Heart of the City!
Spoon in 20 years...
And the award for greatest living Englishman goes to Nick Lowe. Along with Elvis Costello (the second greatest) someone who never sold out and still has it. Love the band too but nearly turned off before the sound settled down.
Stay
hw didnt say stupid boy
Damn, this would be really great if the ads happened in between the songs instead of in the middle of the damned songs. Luckily there were only two
I was hoping he was gonna start singing "I'm Free near the beginning of Heart of the City ( right after 1:09:28 )
Moon river
"Maybe you think I'm a Spider Man ..."
Weird if not scary!!!
He looks like a vicar, but he rocks like the devil. Brill.
I need Nick's shirt.
What's with the masks?
Nick Lowe & Secretly Daft Punk
Hip hop and grime
Riddle me toddler
Great to see he can still do this, but time has not been kind to MR Lowe who is only 70 here, but seems much older, thus some of the comments.. Were used to 70 year old rockers who can pass as 60 years olds today, but not to many can do that obviously. We never know what father time has in mind for us. Some hit the wall, some dont.
He is better than ever, your comments mean little.Listen to the music
@@keithmarch980 you opinion means little
Whose bright idea was it to have the band looking like extras in an early edition of Dr.Who?? Otherwise fab. Luv 8ball.
No organs, won't be seeing him live then
What is it with bands stupid masks.
Crap
This sucks and wtf is up with the masks? Old timers music.
why watch it then?
