Met Fred once... I need to go to Trader Joe's in Sherman Oaks this one day, and there he was, right out in front, reclining on his motorcycle. Real nice guy.
@@bradowen5775 Even luckier (sort of). Stepfanie Kramer (though she was "Stephanie" before she started working), was a classmate of mine, though I did not know her personally. She was a senior and I was just starting high school. So, unlikely she would have had anything to do with me, then. We were, however, in the same drama group at my school. Val Kilmer was there at the same time as I was, too, but he was a year behind me. Oh, and we had Kevin Spacey, though he was a year AFTER me.
This particular season was the best ever in the series run - right down to the murals along the freeways, Det. Sgt. Hunter on the bomber bike, the young lady skating along the walks at the beach, and - of course - Sgt. Hunter looking over his city from above the Hollywood sign in those hills.
I love the music arrangement during this season’s intro with the keyboard solo during the middle of the theme when the music slows down as the sailboat is pulling into the harbor. They did such a good job with putting images of Los Angeles during that period. The music and the images give me such nostalgic feeling. It’s like time traveling into the 80s for a minute and 22 seconds. I’ve always wanted to go up to the location where he is looking down on the city at the end. I miss theme song intros on TV shows. Too bad Hollywood has been going away from using them lately.
This intro shows L.A. at its best!!!!. When I think of L.A., I think of this intro. And the end, when Hunter is looking over the Hollywood sign is classis. You can almost hear his saying.." This is my city"
Saturday Nights in the 1980's was fun 227, Amen, Golden Girls, Empty Nest and Hunter from 7 to 10 pm every Saturday Night. After every sitcom had their theme songs sang the Hunter instrumental was fantastic.
This is my favorite Hunter Intro, for a couple of reasons, but mostly because of Rick's brief encounter with the blond, who bumps into him( are they in an airport terminal? ) looks over her sunglasses at Rick, and smiles( a few seconds of unmistakable mutual attraction ). Then Rick goes into a dazed stare in the direction of the blond walking away. I relate to this so much, 'cause those few seconds are the story of my life. A lot of brief encounters of mutual attraction. A lot of "if only(s)" and "what could have been(s) !! I think I'm gonna freeze the frame there and use it as my computer's screensaver.
I would have to agree with you. It was my favorite intro and most of all was the clip that gorgeous blond bumped into Hunter and another took that blond away. I did not see an episode with them like that. If she did not speak, there is no way I could find her in credits. Oh well. I wanted to know her name! Hahaha. Oh well.
By the way, Stepfanie Kramer ("Dee Dee McCall") went to my high school, the same time I was there. Well, sort of... She was a senior (Class of 1974) and I was just in 10th grade. Didn't know here, then, but I was part of the same drama group at the school. Among our more famous alum was also Val Kilmer. Keven Spacey attended there, too, but just for his senior year.
For me, this was the classic Hunter intro. It assembled all the elements of what you were about to see into one short segment. No suprises, no fancy stuff, just a pure hit of epic cop magic and a soothing ending where the good guys one. The uk chose the right side in the Cold War. Thank God.
Best version of the intro. I’ll never forget the kid selling the fruit and then giving the guy five. Also love how the music shifts to the more peaceful tone at the end, and then he walks from the car to gaze over the city with arms crossed. As a kid it made me think LA must be so cool.
Never been in L.A. Never been in the states never been in AMERICA. But i did watch Hunter back in the days. It was nice to hear the theme song again :-)
Yep, sure was... the show was still on in prime time, then... I was walking up to the store, saw him and thought, "Sh*t! That's Fred Dryer!" Yeah, it was cool.
Terrific Cop TV show. Stephanie Kramer is excellent as the woman cop. The relationship between Hunter and Stephanie Kramer's character makes the TV show.
i was raised in LA and it was great in the 70's and 80's but now i would'nt give 2 shits for that hellhole i live in ORYGUN now and it is heaven on earth RIP 80"s LA
I spent the last 15 years or so occasionally remembering Fred Dryer saying his catchphrase at the end of one of the intros every time I've heard that line in a different situation, but not remembering for the life of me who he was or which show he was from. Then last month, out of bloody nowhere, the name "Hunter" comes back to me, then the entire show (after a bit of Wiki).
It was a sign placed by LAX officials designed to disperse the Hare Krishna (white hippies) characters that were hanging around trying to proselytize the public coming in and out of the airport.
ah..man! have'nt seen this in a LOONG time. my folks would let me stay up late and watch Hunter, miami vice, and twin peaks with them. i was like 9 y.o i remember it was awsome..but never understood twin peaks as kid, then again 20 years later i still dont...
I prefer season 3''s opening titles, montages, fonts and theme song but season 4 was when you felt the show found itself completely as far as tone, they finally found a real captain in Charles Hallahan and adding Garret Morris was a stroke of genius.
Your are correct, Kendall - Charles Hallahan as Captain Devane, and Garrett Morris as Arnold "Sporty" James were truly fantastic, in addition to Fred Dryer and Stephanie Kramer.
It's 1987. Your name is Stephen J. Cannell. Six shows bear your name, but only three of them are hugely popular: Hunter, 21 Jump Street, and a new series, Wiseguy.
Really a "regular guy", definitely not a "star" in that respect, just a "working actor". A regular guy who's job just happened to be that he's an actor. Real easy to talk to, and more than happy to talk to you.
The production values for Season 4 was peculiar... from my eye, they were using videotape to make the episodes and then did color-correcting to give it a "film" look. The actors' credits shown in this intro is the hint. It appeared pretty crude back in those days, and still does today. They went back to using film from Season 5 onwards.
They did indeed looked like the used the videotaped with film processing look this season. Although at least several S4 episodes, including the infamous 3-part episode “City of Passion,” which guest-starred Erik Estrada of “CHiPs” actually used the standard filmed look the 1st 3 seasons and the other 3 after used.
Yep.... CHS Class of 1976... "Dee Dee" was Class of 1975, didn't know her, unfortunately. On a side note, Val Kilmer was also in our drama group, and would have been Class of 1977, but he left a year early to attend Julliard. Spacey (who was Kevin Fowler, back then) only attend his senior year, and graduated in 1977.
Where exactly is that spot? Do you know closest cross streets? I'd love to go see that on a trip. I also heard that this freeway wall shown in this intro of the kids playing is now painted over. Sad.
@kutekandy719 ,,,wal mart has the first season out for 5 bucks , i just saw it here "oregon" in the 5 dollar bin, but im a Rockford fan so i skipped it..:)
For 82 seconds, I forgot I was 39. Man, I miss my childhood!!!
One of my favorite shows!!!
This IS my fav show and im 12
They don’t make like this anymore!
I will go back to these days quick!!!
your 49 now as of me reading this. im 44. i miss the 80s
Nothing can beat an 80's Cop/Detective show!!!!! It was the 80's at its finest!!!!!
Or PI shows. Private eyes and cop dramas were eighties personified lol.
Can't forget the 90's as well.

Wonderful music! Growing up in Burbank and Glendale it reminds me of running up the Griffith Park Observatory with my Dad! Miss you old man!
I really liked the ending with Hunter looking all over Los Angeles. Good opening intro.
How true, Kyle - and from up in the Hollywood Hills at that!
That ending shot was indeed great! And fitting.
@@nopcshere6097I disagree...this was the beginning of them diminishing McCall's role
This is BY FAR my favorite Hunter intro.
Yessir!!!
Smooth lil break down at the end. Lol my favorite intro out of all of them
That breakdown is Silky Smooth!
Correct
The breakdown is what brought me here.
This is the best opening by far it brings back so many awesome times
Best of the Hunter intros really gives a good look at the Los Angeles of the 80's.
calleaeste I like this but I also like season 3 intro at the end with Dee Dee and Hunter talking.
I always loved, "works for me," but this has always been my favorite. It's approach, during, and it's exit, are all done with such grace and skill.
This particular season was the best ever in the series run - right down to the murals along the freeways, Det. Sgt. Hunter on the bomber bike, the young lady skating along the walks at the beach, and - of course - Sgt. Hunter looking over his city from above the Hollywood sign in those hills.
They painted over that mural
I remember the Dee Dee drove a Dodge Daytona! That was my first dream car!
After watching this I learned two things:
1) 80s TV shows had the best theme songs.
2) L.A. traffic sucked in the 80s too.
I love the music arrangement during this season’s intro with the keyboard solo during the middle of the theme when the music slows down as the sailboat is pulling into the harbor. You are telling the truth Mr. Pope Hollywood is not the same
this is the best intro of all the seasons
indeed
+RedneckJack This and Season 3 only!
the opening theme for seasons 3 & 4 is "Classic" Hunter to me.
This intro shows L.A. at its best!!!!. When I think of L.A., I think of this intro. And the end, when Hunter is looking over the Hollywood sign is classis. You can almost hear his saying.." This is my city"
Simply perfect!
"...and I must protect it at all costs."
Saturday Nights in the 1980's was fun 227, Amen, Golden Girls, Empty Nest and Hunter from 7 to 10 pm every Saturday Night. After every sitcom had their theme songs sang the Hunter instrumental was fantastic.
the ending where Dryer stands out in the open gives me the chills. very tranquil and serene.........
