I was born in ‘90. I was introduced to shows like Hunter, Night Court, Hill Street Blues, and Cheers by chance and it made me realize that ‘80s television was hands down one of the greatest eras ever
Wow, this intro is a minute and thirty seconds that would never happen today! Not one tv show would dare have theme this long and it shows the lack of care and passion for television now compared to those days. Hunter's a great series and had one of the all time great theme songs. Seasons 3, 5 and 6 are my fav versions.
I also loved this show in my teenage years. I was 13 when it started running but I didn't get into it until late season 2 when I saw it by accident, and got hooked instantly.
Those were the days when tv cops still were real tv cops, cars exploded by just looking at them and Mike Post and Pete Carpenter wrote all the cool theme songs, exept for Airwolf and McGyver...gosh I miss the eighties...
Between this show, the A-Team, the Dukes of Hazzard, and all the old movies like the Blues Brothers and Smokey and the Bandit where they wrecked hundreds of police cars, I wonder just how many Dodge Monaco's and Plymouth Furys/Gran Furys were destroyed. Has to be thousands upon thousands. Of course they were just bland old fleet cars, but they hold a certain iconic value today and actually are hard to come by because so many were destroyed in movie and tv filming.
I was disappointed when McCall left as well. 'The Brass Cupcake' and Hunter were 2 major badasses! Molenski and Chris Novak were good people but they didn't have the magic between Hunter and them like McCall did.
saw this when I was around 9-10. I had completely forgot about this series except for the intro melody which for some reason occasionally pops up in my mind even though I didn't know where it came from; but now I remember.
The Season 5 theme was the best of all; had a kick ass rhythm. The cast, Fred Dryer, Stepfanie Kramer, and Charles Hallahan really made the show as wonderful as it still is today. RIP Charles Hallahan (1943-1997)
Yes, not only did Season 5 have an AWESOME Theme (as you point out) which I think is BEST for Beach Parties and other activities, but it also saw Scarecrow & Mrs. King Producer George Geiger taking over as Executive Producer of Season 5 Under Geiger's Leadership, the continuing chemistry between Fred Dryer, Stepfanie Kramer and Charles Hallahan and Great Script-writing which was SO fantastic, Season 5 of HUNTER became THE Highest Rated Season of the entire series as this season became THE only Season to FINALLY CRACK the Nielsen Ratings Top 20 and it FINALLY beat Dallas in the Ratings for the last 3 straight seasons
I miss the days when TV shows made subtle changes to their theme songs each season. Of course, I also miss the days when TV shows had their own, original theme songs. These 5-10 second snippets don't count!
I know I am in the minority here, but the Season 5 theme has always been my favorite. It seems to be the most "metal" version. Having Hunter's green Dodge Monaco do a barrel roll at the end ain't bad either. --okay, tear me a new one.
I love how Hunter always destroying his undercover police car was a bit of a running gag throughout the series, they kept replacing them with crappier and crappier cars and it was almost always an old Monaco or Fury, and this series was a good 10 years after the models of those cars they used were produced. Of course the real reason is they were cheap, old, expendable fleet cars that the studios bought a ton of, but the story worked.
Every season had a different style of playing. Remember though... this was back when people looked down on 80s metal to where having it as the theme song was a big deal then. The only other time I think I heard good 80s metal on TV was when they played Only The Good Die Young by Iron Maiden on Miami Vice. Of course, the drug criminals on the boat were playing it but still.
@@zebadiahcoleman7026 Did anyone say anything about that? Lol he was talking about theme songs so idk what you're talking about. Also, I disagree that there alot of good shows today compared to the 70s, 80s and 90s. You're entitled to that thought but I just don't see it. There are a few good ones but most aren't good for me.
This was 30 years ago that Season 5 arrived and this was something special for so many reasons: after the late Roy Huggins stepped down as Executive Producer, Stephen J. Cannell Productions hired George Geiger the Executive Producer of Scarecrow and Mrs. King to become the NEW Executive Producer of Season 5 and under his leadership, The continuing chemistry between Fred Dryer, Stepfanie Kramer and the late Charles Hallahan, Fantastic Script Writing and of course, the theme song that sounds like it should be used for Beach Parties and it's my favorite as well HUNTER was FINALLY able to CRACK the Nielsen Ratings Top 20 and it even got higher ratings than Dallas Season 5 is AWESOME!
Out of all of them my fav theme song is from season 3 but season 5 is right behind it. Hunter was hitting strides in the 4th and 5th seasons ratings wise and the show finding it's voice. It included the classic three parter City Under Seige too.
Awesome! This is the season intro I remember. I loved this show. I remember making a police badge with Rick Hunter as the name and thinking I was so cool. Great stuff!
YES!! Finally... another "Mike Post/ Pete Carpenter" fan. They practically had a monopoly on kick-ass tv thems in the 1980's. I think this is the best season opening because I feel it captures the gritty, somewhat dirty and violent era of the decade and Los Angeles. And you can't beat Hunter's big 'ol Dodge doing a mid-air roll. THIS SHOW ROCKED!!
80s tv was the best, hands down. With shows that had everything from high-tech vehicles to good old fashioned cops that got mud on their clothes.....high-speed chases and the birth of tv tropes that last generations....I miss it.
When I watch eighties TV I never ever fast forward I watch the opening titles and the TV show finished I always watch the end credits and listen to the theme tunes I love them all American TV from the eighties the best ever of all time cannot be beaten there will never be a decade like the eighties it just a one of decade u have a big chunk eighties American TV on DVD far far far better than the fucken todays TV I hate all this crap reality with huge mortal passion bring back the eighties
Actually Kramer left b/c she wanted to move on according to her interview with ET and plus, Dryer and Kramer are still good friends, it was Darlanne Fluegel from Season 7 that had problems with Dryer, not Kramer
p.s. Not related, but for the fun of it: Look for his 2nd appearance on Cheers as Dave. There's a little nod to Hunter (which I think had just been greenlighted by NBC) at the end of the episode.
Ahhh the 80s....when they loved to just blow $h!t up!!!!!! Man I miss the 80s!!!!! Probably shouldn't have been watching this show as a kid, but I'm pretty sure I saw every episode. It was one of the best cop shows of the 80s other than Hillstreet Blues.... which I watched as a kid as well. 80s tv was everything!
I remember that episode too. The Shooter. It was one of my favorite. I bought the first season dvd set to see it. Guess what. They removed the song!! That was the first time I heard Sympathy for the Devil and always associated that song with the bike chase. Now it is gone forever. Only you and me remember how great that song fit the chase. Rat Bastards.
I always favored this music intro! I always tell some people about how this version rocked, and then their like Hunter? Hunter was a show? I'm like 👀. Really!? I must have been one of the lucky ones.
Anybody got a clip of the car chase where the scene at 1.07 is taken from ?! I think that's where Hunter crashes but escapes before the tanker explodes. He gets a new but identical car after that with a tuned up engine ?!!
Really? I had thought they had reconciled some years later, which is partially why they did the reunion movies and follow-up series. I remember reading (I think in Premiere magazine when I was a kid), the specific complaint by Kramer was that her role began getting minimized, starting with less shots of her in the opening credits sequence and followed by a smaller role in the show itself. It coincided with his producer credit.
Does anybody remember a chapter where the bad guy was a man all dressed in black on a motorcycle? the music theme when the rider appeared was Sympathy for the Devil... I would like to see that chapter again...
I was born in ‘90. I was introduced to shows like Hunter, Night Court, Hill Street Blues, and Cheers by chance and it made me realize that ‘80s television was hands down one of the greatest eras ever

I miss this show so much I love Hunter with Fred Dryer and Stephanie Kramer so much.

I like how they made the 77 dodge Monaco part of Hunter’s character
Between this show, the A-Team, the Dukes of Hazzard, and all the old movies like the Blues Brothers and Smokey and the Bandit where they wrecked hundreds of police cars, I wonder just how many Dodge Monaco's and Plymouth Furys/Gran Furys were destroyed. My fave Hunter theme. Plus that shot of Hunter pushing the woman down to get a shot off
Damn I’m crying (well almost) I really think I’m the only person who’s watched every episode.. I cried when Dede left & got married
My dad was a huge fan of the show back in 1980s he watches rerun today
I was disappointed when McCall left as well. 'The Brass Cupcake' and Hunter were 2 major badasses! Molenski and Chris Novak were good people but they didn't have the magic between Hunter and them like McCall did.

This is my favorite intro theme version. It is the most metal, has the fastest beat, and really has that dirty mid 1980's feel.
Mine too and Season 6 as well.
Same here. I also love it when Fred Dryer shows his LAPD badge like a boss. That's GIF worthy.
LOVE THAT GUITAR!!!
Classic crime tv shows. Wow they made them so good back then. I miss the 80s.
Me too
This is my favorite of all of the Hunter themes.
I remember this season - they changed up the intro music to give it a more metal sound. I liked it

I wish the whole song was plain, brutal, on-your-face metal.
This was the one!!! The most kick-ass version for sure!

I could see detective stabler from svu doing a role like this
I think Eliot Stabler had to be somewhat inspired by Rick Hunter tbh and Liv may have been inspired by Dee Dee.
I thought this version of the Hunter theme paid a little more homage to the 1st 2 seasons' theme tunes.
I watched this show quite a bit as a kid.
Hunter is now streaming on NBC's streaming service Peacock! Coming soon: The A Team, Miami Vice and Knight Rider
