For some vehicles and vehicles with dirty and old brake fluid, opening the bleeder is a good idea so you don’t force old fluid back into the brake hoses and up the lines. But be cautious if you do to make sure to go slow and close the bleeder accordingly or air will most definitely get into the brake system and will need to be bled out.
That really depends on the shop you use. You’re looking at about a 1 hour labor charge plus cost of parts. So $250-$300 could be the average cost for parts and labor.
