The qualifying rules also add excitement to the series. The grid is in reverse order from the qualifying results. To incentivize qualifying well, every overtake from your starting position gets you 1 point. So for maximum points you need to qualify in 1st, start in last, and fight your way to finish P1. So the best drivers are fighting through the field every race. It's a really enjoyable series!
SST is awesome. The whole series is designed for extreme spectacle. Like mini American monster trucks on asphalt

I didn’t realize they hand out trucks at the start of the race and they just put their body on it. That’s why this series is so amazing. It’s actually fair.
and cheap, cuz then needed, its going to be a big bulk buy in of spare parts reducing the price on stuff heavily.

its fair provided they are honest. i,m surprised they do it this way, they have now taken the fun out of building your own truck. wow, super highly regulated.
@@horseshoe182 ya but they can still set them up how they want. I think it creates a really level playing field that actually puts driver against driver. There are other sports for machine v machine.
It goes further than that. Robby has been known to swap trucks with people saying theirs has an issue (and then probably beat them in it because the guy is a savant in off road trucks).
Another thing to love about the SST series is that races are streamed on UA-cam, so you don’t need cable

I wish this series was bigger. In most race series, "its even so its about driver skill" means 2 tenths per lap to be competitive. In this series, there is so many variables, angles, choices and lines. Its really about the man behind the wheel on the day. Plus some luck. So much fun.
I think I can confidently say this is the most underrated race series. Love seeing them as features in the v8 supercars series but they deserve way more love
please don't stop making these I always love seeing the exciting racing types people have all around the world

I saw these in Long Beach supporting the Indycar race and they completely stole the show. One of the coolest fvcking things I've seen. Absolutely ludicrous circuit to have these on and everyone loved it.
I love the way this channel has evolved over the years. From primarily F1 focused content to covering awesome stuff like this.
Not mentioned is that the lead truck actually gets slowed down by drag in clean air, which gives the chasing truck an advantage! It's always DRS o'clock in SST!
The 3-wheel setup is done to improve traction of the powered rear axle and make oversteer controllable. Similar setup was widely used in 70s and early 80s rear wheel drive rally cars, especially such with with live axle or limited steering angle. Oversteering was achieved more by agressive throw of the car into a corner at speed which would normally send it straight on and off the road.
So happy you shared SST cause this kind of race really really deserved it. Pretty unique and drivers centered. I'm so tired to see races where the winner is mostly decided by brand instead of the drivers.
Next do Monster Jam. Monster Truck events are nuts especially the Back Flip. Also a lot of love is shown to the glorious Long Beach Circuit. The Long Beach Grand Prix that IMSA runs is quite chaotic especially with the GTP car mixed with GT's.
I saw these live at the IndyCar race in Nashville. The entertainment level is super high, and it is an amazing spectacle. Another reason for the competition cautions is to cool off the tires. Those off road tires aren't made to deal with the level of heat that builds up during the race. This keeps them from having to change tires in the race, again reducing costs.

One minute into the vid and Robbie Gordon showing why he's one of the most exciting drivers out there. His Stadium Truck series is always a joy to watch.
I love Stadium Super Trucks! I'll never forget seeing Sheldon Creed barrell role over the finish line at Adelaide in 2015. He's gone on to do a few other things, like be the youngest driver to ever start the Dakar, win gold at the X Games, and won the 2020 NASCAR Truck Series Championship, along with racing full time in the NASCAR Xfinity series and part time in Cup right now. I just love the fact that this is where he started haha
not sure how anyone could not enjoy watching these crazy machines!
For those unaware, there are stadium trucks in iRacing. Not a lot of tracks, but the cars are quite fun to drive. So plushy and nice. Particularly fun in VR with the whole depth perception and really seeing how high off the ground you are.
They are great in iRacing but the madness like jumps on street courses is not there sadly. What would be great would be the ability for players to add jumps to any course they want in the game!
Always my favorite part of the Music City GP. They're addicting to watch, and their paddock is a great time and full of nice down to earth folks.
These are absolutely some of the most fun racecars/trucks to watch. The drivers are mental, but I guess that's how they put on such a good show. It really is amazing how fast they are.
I love Stadium Super Trucks! If I had to race in ANY wheel-to-wheel championship (besides F1 lol) I'd gladly hop in the seat of one of these beasts. It has to be mad empowering to know you can beat the truck up and still walk away safe and with the opportunity for a decent finish. Love these kinds of vids, keep highlighting the more niche racing championships of the world Scott!
I had the chance to see stadium trucks live at COTA that also featured the Indycar, Indy NXT, and MX5 Miata Cup series. For sheer spectator entertainment the trucks couldn't be beat. Yes, the drivers are racing seriously but they manage to inject a whole lot of fun into each race as well. Absolutely go watch them live if you can; you won't be disappointed!

Got to see Robbie's son Max make his debut in the SST at like 12yrs old. Kid did good. They are a blast to watch.
The fact that they run these at Surfers Paradise is absolutely insane. I remember the first time I saw them... How could you forget the surprise of seeing a trophy truck yeeting itself into a corner inn the middle of a city?
Cleetus' channel has a video of Robbie teaching him how to drive them. Cleetus joined the series for a couple races and was actually a couple corners from winning a race when he found a wall.
It would be fun to see you in them and it wouldn't surprise me if it was possible. It's the contact that would throw me off more than the massive weight transfer I think.
I saw them racing at Cleetus's bristol race last year, very cool.

As an American, I love that Scott is always willing to buy right into the stupid (but fun) racing ideas that America comes up with 😂 . Then again, he’s about to drive a car upside down.

If you own a PC sim racing setup, I urge you to try these trucks in Automobilista (first title). They are incredibly fun to drive (or just hoon around).
Quick tips : lift before a jump and hammer the throttle as you go up the ramp. You have to force a weight transfer to the rear to counter-act the tendency of the truck to nose-dive, and stay level in the air as a result.
I've never had the slightest interest in trucks, but loved this series from the first moment I saw it! Absolutely mental stuff!
Seeing them on TV or UA-cam does not prepare you for what they are like live. First time I saw them at Watkins Glen I just started laughing. They are awesome to watch.
I remember watching them after the Long Beach GP a couple years ago and that shit was so awesome to see. My pops was enamored once he saw the ramps coming out lol
Got to see these guys run at Bristol for Cleetus' deal there last year. Very dynamic and fun to see live!
I absolutely fucking love stadium trucks, watching them go over jumps in tandem or one by one coming around a corner with the inside wheel in the air NEVER gets old to me

Yeah, the stadium supertrucks are amazing and really know how to put on a show. I first learnt about this series when the Supercars series was doing a free meet and greet with the drivers and while there was a massive line lasting hours for the main drivers, there was one stadium supertruck and driver with nobody really caring, so I went over, said hello, got a selfie, marvelled at the engineering and went on my way
Love the stadium super trucks. Another thing you should check out is the suspension on the Baja trophy trucks as those things are absolutely menta to watch
I remember the first time I saw Stadium Trucks during the IndyCar race in St. Petersburg, Florida and it was amazing. Seeing the trucks flying over your head and the sound is fantastic.
I saw these bad boys live in St. Petersburg (FL) I want to say about 7 years ago, part of the Indycar weekend. Was AMAZING entertainment lol!
I saw these in Nashville before the Indycar race and I gotta say these were SUPER entertaining!
3 WHEELIN'S A GOOD FEELIN' I know a guy who raced these for a couple seasons, absolutely crazy. I remember watching that crash live (7:43) I was shocked that he basically walked away. I love this series of racing.
I absolutely love stadium trucks. Trophy trucks can handle even better because of their width along with all the insane long travel
I worked for a company that sponsored the off road circuit trucks and had to go help out in catering a few times. It was awesome to watch and looked like crazy fun.
Saw them in 2019 at INDYCAR. Robbie Gordon and the drivers were friendly mild mannered and great with fans. The race was so cool.
Automobilsta has driveable Stadium Supertrucks, and we've been pushing for Automobilista 2 to have them too since before it came out.
I’ve been watching these . Personally I think it’s the most exciting racing out at the mo the formula they use like fastest go last and having compulsory caution where they bunch them up again

I tell you what…seeing these things in person at an indycar race brings a level of excitement of an already uneventful or dare I say dull day as a fan in the stands. It’s literally a circus in person and damn good entertainment value.

Robbie Gordon is the man for making most of the trucks. Also hes pretty good about getting like youtube guys, nascar people, all kinds of sick drivers

I watched my first Stadium truck race in Long Beach in 2022. Just marvelous
I watched them at the Nashville IndyCar race. We were probably 20ft from one of the ramps. It was crazy. Mostly, everybody just giggled with excitement. Also the way they lean on those long travel suspensions is definitely unusual.
It's hard to believe that when these trucks ran at COTA they caused indentations to the surface of the track that upset the F1 cars.
Which then causes drivers like Hamilton to get disqualified!😂
We need this SO HARD in iRacing.
I'm continually surprised that stadium super trucks aren't more popular in the US. It's way more fun than NASCAR. It's also surprising that there isn't a major stadium truck racing sim game.

Love watching these races! I need to see one in person sometime! I missed my chance at Road America a few years in a row they were there.
Also the other reason why they add the competition yellow is to cool down the breaks because they are doing a lot of work. Also the restarts are great fun to watch.
I was there. SST was a supporting series but they got far more attention than headlining event (Xfinity, I think). 3-4 deep against the fence line. On Friday or Saturday, they had dinner with racers (not the podcast) but have dinner with racers. It doesn't happen every race, but it happened that evening with Robby Gordon. Something like 30 people showed up. Robby greeted everyone. During the dinner, RA interviewed him. After, he did a Q & A, came to all tables. There was photo op of course. It was an awesome time to have that close access. You could tell by talking to him, that he enjoyed engaging with fans. I miss SST

The drivers are crazy. The jumps look awsome but the crashes are gnarly.
Craziest part: the founder of series Robbie Gordon also has his now 15 year old son Max Gordon drive these things. The kid has been driving them in this series since 2020.... when he was 11! Also his nickname is "Mad Max" which come on. Is just so badass

I saw a video of a stadium super trucks race and I loved it. It led me wath many races from time to time, cause it's so much fun seeing racers having fun and not taking everything way to serious with way to many rules

Lately I fell in love with aussie Sport Sedan series - it's also silhouette series, but every team can put on top whatever sporting car it wants - so you have Alfa vs Mustang vs Audi vs Mazda vs etc. :)
One of my favorite Motorsports to study along with rally. I bought a truck a few weeks ago with a similar setup but it's 4wd and doesn't have as much travel for Tuff Truck racing.
These things are an absolute blast to watch. Finally got to see them in person in Nashville during the Indy Car weekend this year. Matt Brabham, grandson of Jack Brabham, raced with SST this year. Their paddock was also basically wide open so you could just walk through and get an up close look at all the trucks.
i was blown away the first time i watched the stadium trucks in australia.. the racing was sik and the lack of rules made it interesting!...they a must watch any time its shown!

Another favourite past time of Perth folk is answering "yes" to the old fabled question of "does this dress make me look fat".
A few years back the trucks were 30K per race and basically anyone w the money can enter the race.
This deserves more visibility.

Short course off road has always been under appreciated series. Its motocross on 4 wheels, sho much action. Im glad to see Robby get similar trucks and racing in front of huge crowds. With Lucas Oil Off Road series being cancelled there are few places left to see these stlye of trucks hitting sweet jumps. Robby is a freaking legend. Indy, nascar, baja, dakar now owning one of the most fun series piggybacking off of GT and indy circuits

The other advantage of the mandatory yellow flag period is that it gives the marshals a chance to deal with all the little things: small bits of debris, or slightly smooshed tyre barriers. In other series there'd have to be a judgement call about whether t put out a caution flag, but in SST, they know that there will be a chance to fix it anyway.

SST likes to support indycar races (i’ve seen them thrice at the nashville indy races and theyre honestly as good as indycar itself), but i believe they do many supporting other series too. my favorite piece of racing memorabilia is a piece of bodywork that flew off one of these during a race, and afterwards i walked on track and got the driver to sign it (Nashville 2022, driver was ryan beat).
