Nik , you have a really energetic personality when you tell a story , and that's what it takes to be a good story teller , in my opinion . Your fun to watch and listen to . Now that I think of it , I don't know of anyone else on u tube that is doing this ! Please keep them coming and thank you .
Great story nik, I'm a a animal lover myself bottle raised a few deer a bobcat, and a couple beaver pups. I've been a trapper for forty years most people think trappers are the cruelest people on earth but in reality care more for wildlife than most people. Looking forward to the next story, keep'um coming..
Nice use of gondola shelving. I see you are also a bucky fuller fan! I have a little cabin in my back woods that is the only known example of his cabin based off of the drinking bird toys. The cabin sits on a cliff that is all sand. There is an upside down pyramid of triangulated steel going down 32 ft where it connects to 120, 000 gallon stainless water tank. It is full of water. The sand cliff is in constant movement and erosion. The main cabin sits 10 ft off the ground at the lowest point. The sand just flows right under the house and down the face of the cliff. It's been there 45 years and the structure has moved about 3 in. It's just a little 30x32 single story cabin, but the design is one of Bucky's favorites that he never got the opportunity to implement before he died. As far as we know there are no other examples.
Lovely story Nick .There is somehing magical when you make a connection with a wild animal . Its rare and special. I had a simalar experience with a fox this summer. It made its home in my Mam's garden, which was quiet and a little overgrown , as she died just after Christmas. The fox would greet me in the mornong when I called down and as i was giving it food ,we became friends . On Bob Dylan's birthday , I was sitting on the back step listening to his records being played on the radio, and it came out from the bushes and right up to me to listen to Bob.It would sit beside me in the grass and fall asleep. It disappeared in september . P.S I love your workshop window , I remember seeing it in one of your jewellery videos .Cheers Colum
G'day Mr Nik, Kevin here from Australia. Another great story. I was waiting for you to say that the bear decided to live in the chicken coop. 😁 Owe love the hat. I've got one the same but my hairs to long at the moment (past my shoulders) for it to fit. Anyhoo thanks for sharing man. Peace ✌🏻
Years ago I bought a farm in Palermo California. I'm a city boy but always thought of myself as country at heart. This turned out to be a mistake. See I had this huge blue Neapolitan Mastiff puppy, 11 months and 200 lb. I'm at tractor supply and see the adorable chicks and get talked into being a chicken farmer. A week later 75 chicks got delivered. That dog thought they were puppies up until they started running. The first time one of them ran past his peripheral vision, he turned and ate it in one bite. That was it. It was all over. Within 24 hours he was groaning and huge. We figured he ate about 65 of them and the other 10 seem to have died of fright. That's when I decided to accept that I am not a country boy.
I will say in that useless mutts defense, a mere week later we had a big barbecue and a lot of people passed out without cleaning up., About 3:00 a.m., there's five grizzlies in our camp making a mess. That dog shot through the lower panel of the door like it wasn't even there, chase those bears at least 5 mi out of the valley. He came back 3 hours later exhausted and proud of himself
75 chickens, oh my. You're lucky he ate them. The property would have been a desert by the time they got old enough to lay. Very destructive creatures to the land. Even 4, which is our limit can wipe out large swaths of terrain in a short time. We let them out, but keep them contained around the shop
@@NikColyerMachineWorks that was the goal. The fire marshal was up our ass to get rid of the grass. Too many snakes for my taste. We thought we would eat one a night.
I use live animal traps to keep ground squirrels out of our garden which is 3 miles from town and I move them another 5 miles farther from town. I guess that's fair.
Great story, we have about 16 ducks and they don't do coops. I expect that someday I will have less. Our new dog doesn't really do much in protecting them, but doesn't bother them either. We are in a rural area and wildlife is abundant including bears.
@@NikColyerMachineWorks Used a lot of that stuff when I was building in the late 70's before the big savings and loan crash forced a change in my life's direction. 30 years later when I moved to my present location I was looking for a place to build and reviewing the local ordinances I found something that made me laugh out loud- In all caps it read "NO GEODESIC DOMES".
I think the hunting as a "sport" attitude is very sad. These animals have a hard time just surviving in the wild and for someone to gain fun from shooting a wild animal is very sad.

I got the idea from Titans of CNC, where he tell stories over the machine work. It's fun.
Story time with Nik is quickly becoming my favorite show
A higher compliment I could not ask for.

G'day Mr Nik,
Kevin here from Australia.
Another great story.
I was waiting for you to say that the bear decided to live in the chicken coop. 😁

Peace ✌🏻
Was thinking exactly the same mate🤣🤣. I love these story episodes
No bear, but we did have a skunk take up residence in that coop. Got the hat from my buddy Rusty who died last month. I do miss him.
@@NikColyerMachineWorks So sorry Mr Nik about Rusty it's a he'll of a way to get a hat . Wear it with pride man and never forget. 🐻

I really like story time too.
Another entertaining story Sir.
Hey, thanks for watching.
I wish you where my neighbor! Thanks for sharing
You'd have to live in the woods.
@@NikColyerMachineWorks I do live in the woods, only in northern Michigan, on the edge of the pigeon river state forest!

I love the story time, thanks for the times you make me laugh Nic
I like to laugh and I love making other laugh. You made my day.

Another great story Nik, thanks for taking the time to make this video. Regards from Australia
They are easy because I don't edit, just point and shoot.
I use live animal traps to keep ground squirrels out of our garden which is 3 miles from town and I move them another 5 miles farther from town. I guess that's fair.
I also have had to do that from time to time when the population gets unwieldly.
Loved it
It's fun.

Oh, bears and duck. Not so good, but enjoy them while you can.
Yay! Extra story day!
Cute
Another great story when is the book coming out?
The book is 600 pages so far, but far back in line behind 8 unpublished novels.
Geodesic domes and T-111, pure 70's. Do they still make T-111?
Yes, they still make T-111, but these days it ain't cheap.
