I remember buying this one after saving up from my weekend job at a restaurant. When I told the guy in the phone store I was buying it outright, rather than on a contract, he was shocked because it cost something like £270 and couldn't believe someone would spend £270 on a phone lol. That was probably the only time in my life that I've been genuinly excited for a phone. New upgrades and announcements these days are all the same just with slightly better features. I don't think we'll experience a device this revolutionary, in terms of being so vastly different to everything else, for quite a few years.
I remember I was in secondary school, and my dad got this phone.. he wouldn’t let me on it.. and then when the new one came out he gave me his old one ..
I still have mine (8gb) in its original box. Picked it up on release day at AT&T. Barely a line to wait in. Walked in, asked for an 8gb and boom. I still have most of the stuff in the box, the phone is in great shape and still holds a decent charge. I boot it up once a year just to relive it and remind me how far we've come. Don't know if I'd ever sell it. It may seem simple, but it was a life/business changing piece of tech.
in 2007 my cousin was in new york for a vacation and bought 2 iphone first series. one was for me. I'll never forget the feeling I got when he gave it to me.I haven't had a feeling like that since.
Unpopular opinion: The App Store was not what Steve Jobs intended for the IPhone. He wanted the IPhone to be an minimalistic device/tool that helps us in a few different scenarios like listening to music on an sunny day or finding the spot you hook up with friends via maps. Getting to know stuff through the browser or just be delighted by the ease of use. The IPhone was never supposed to do basically everything and it sure as hell wasnt supposed to be a social media device. I know I’m sounding old saying all this but that’s how I see it
And, when the concept for the App Store was first introduced within Apple, Jobs intended it to be web-based, with different websites for different things rather than apps.
I still have one of these that I got from a friend at the lowest point of their value. The screen was busted, the plastic at the bottom was chipped, the home button was just not even there, the aluminum was dented, the Apple logo had shifted, and the speakers didn't really work well. She literally gave it to me because it was in such bad shape. I remember when she dropped it once and while going to pick it up, she accidentally kicked it down the hallway at school. However, it was still technically my first iPhone and I still have it somewhere. I've recently moved and it's somewhere in a box along with my iPhone 3G, but wherever it is...I know it still works...barely...and even though it's busted to all hell, it's still a cherished possession of mine.
Great video.. I remember when the 3G came out and it's still to this day, the most excited I have ever been about a phone and I couldn't even buy it because it was only available on one service provider which I wasn't compatible with. I paid $800 back in 2008 to have mine shipped from Italy. The only place the phones were sold unlocked at the time. So much for phones costing a lot. And it was worth every penny!!
I had the original iPhone. I loved it. I was one of a very small number of people that bought it abroad and brought it back to South Africa 🇿🇦 It never came out here. I had to wait for the first jailbreak, because it was carrier locked to AT&T and I needed it to run on our local carrier, Vodacom. At the time, people would literally stop me on the street and ask me what it was.
At the time, just the thought of only touch screens dictating every purpose of a cellular device was mind blowing. Nobody thought that would be functional. Amazing how far we've come.
I bought mine the FIRST DAY they were released... not even an hour after the store opened. I still have it, it still functions perfectly (battery and everything), and I have all of the original packaging... even the plastic the seals the box. I opened it as if I didn't want to look like the plastic has been opened. Even the screen still looks great on mine! I am glad I chose to be so picky in opening it... and did it because I knew the world was about to change, and I had something special. I have my original unwrapped accessories also. BTW, the cloth was not microfiber from what I understand... it was supposed to have been alcantara. I still have mine too... never used!

Our 2G is still in daily use - it’s spent the last 5 years playing the Knock Out bedtime playlist for our youngest. Bought it used, as soon as jail breaks worked for T-Mobile. I get a little thrill when it reboots with the Pineapple logo. It’s still a joy to hold - the 6/7/8 and XR feel reminiscent of it.
ahhh my first iphone i remember it well. Some people didnt like the back with the two tone and plastic bottom but i thought looked cool and still do. Luke needs to to a 3gs box opening next
I've kept every iPhone I've ever owned, starting with the original iPhone followed by the iPhone 4, the iPhone 5, the iPhone SE (original), and my current iPhone Mini. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
The first iPhone to be released in The Netherlands was the 3G. Some friends imported this phone from the US/UK. I still remember watching the live stream keynote. Those were great times. Introductions of the iMac G4, G5, new iLife demos, MAC OS X Tiger.
Just found my boxed iPhone 8GB. Still has all the documentation, power supply, dock, and headphones unused, as well as the cleaning cloth. I had forgotten how 'basic' this phone was compared to more modern iPhones. I used to upgrade each year, but stopped after the 5, as then updates weren't that major. Currently on iPhone 11.
Oh Steve we miss you so much! Your vision and quality was unreal and just simply amazing! I wish to see this microfiber cloth in iPhone 12.... dreams......
I remember buying these in the states and bringing home to Canada and making a few bucks. Still have mine somewhere in the house. Used that OG for a few years. Finally upgrade to iPhone 4. omg that was night and day.
I remember I was only 5 when it came out and my dad was among the first get it to another country and had to wait some time to get it unlocked . Lots of memories with it. Fun fact: I use it now everyday and it’s running 3.1.3.. have the 16 GB. I use it for music listening and alarms and timers. Still a phenomenal 🔥experience. Still got the dock and the microfiber cloth. The Dock is where I place it everyday when I’m not using it.
The release of the original iPhone was really special to me , my brother and I watched it together when we were kids , and I remember we were amazed by the technology , I will never forget that moment :)
The memories really come flowing after he finished saying “13 years ago, Steve Jobs announced the original iPhone and the world has never been the same.” Then the soothing intro comes in ❤️
The 3gs was the first time the iPhone really got into gear imo. Most of the issues of the 2g and 3g were gone at that point and it was a much fast/better experience. The 4 stepped it up another notch and transformed the whole industry again. I don't think we really got a new iPhone since which really kicked the industry forward like those early iPhones.
I was a BIG Nextel fan ... My first iPhone was a 4 and It started a love affair with Apple, and I now only use Apple products ... Thanks for the nice look back .... We've certainly come a LONG way ...
A great life cut too short, RIP Jobs, you were a visionary! Now if only they can come up with the next "cool" thing like a phone the thickness of a piece of paper that you can roll into the shape of a tube, lol.

All iPhone and iPhone 3G boxes have the SMS icon on the screen, but the lack of iTunes Store icon and the fact it’s a 4G model definitely makes it a rare boi.
Nice. I had my stack of iPhone boxes on the shelf and was excited to discover that mine still had the microcloth too. Now checking my 3GS, 4 and 4S too.
This iPhone brings me back to my childhood when i first had a green iPod nano and later a couple of iPod Touch. the ones without a camera. And omg! I can still remember the day in january 2011 when i bought my first iPhone. An black 4. This was before they started making white models. later on I had an 4s, 5s, 6s plus, 8 plus and now an XS Max. The iPhones just keep lasting forever. So fun to watch!
Nostalgia. I'll never forget arriving at the Tyson's Corner, VA mall at around midnight the day of launch and standing in the line to get mine. Apple was assigning numbers to get in the store for folks who had pre-orders and separate numbers for folks that were there to get one from the limited first-come first-served stock each store received.
My first iPhone was the second gen/iPhone 3G. Not sure why I didn't buy the OG. I think my reasoning at the time was I wanted to wait until they ironed out the kinks... or something! It was a pretty nifty device though and I remember people asking a few times if it was "fake"? - both in Australia and when I was in the US as well. Not sure what that was all about but I guess they weren't quite so ubiquitous as they are nowadays! I kind of wish I kept it.
I remember when I was 6 I took my dads og iPhone box and I was looking through it and then I found the microfiber cloth and I used it then threw it away. I had no idea. If only I knew...
I do remember the release of iPhone 1 in 2007. Our German consumer organisation and foundation "Stiftung Warentest" has tested it and gave assessment "befriedigend". And they said: "Flat, large multimedia mobile phone with special Internet functions and the best music player in the test. Control via touch-sensitive display. No UMTS, no MMS. No memory card, but 8 Gigabyte internal memory. 2-megapixel camera, but no video recording. Battery not replaceable by user. Commissioning requires registration with Apple and a PC with iTunes software (not supplied). Only available with T-Mobile contract."
I worked for o2 looking after corporate accounts when this was released. We all got one before the release date as we had to learn how to use it before it was released to our customers. I still have mine but I’m gutted I didn’t keep the box etc 😭
I bought a 16 gig 2g about a year ago for only like $60. It’s got some dead pixels at the bottom and is pretty scratched up, but i absolutely love it. Now I just need a TMobile G1/HTC Dream.
By the way the multitouch feature came from an accessibility device made to use in place of mouse to lessen the strain on wrist. You could do finger gestures to do stuff like copy, paste, move the mouse, etc. Apple bought that company and basically forced them to overwork as iPhone had a tight launch date, the inventor was not even invited to the reveal event.
In retrospective I think the launch of the App Store was the real revolution for the vision of mobile technology. But of course you need to have a device first that makes those things possible. The iPhone wouldn't have been the same without the opportunity to get new apps, and giving third parties the opportunity to get their apps on other user's iPhones was just the best decision ever and the necessary work of pionieering and innovation for google, samsung etc.
No, you could also plug in 3rd party headphones to the iPhone, so long as the connector was thin like the OEM iPhone headphones. Granted, they weren't widespread, but they were out there.
Fascinating. I've never owned, used, or even been interested in Apple products. Yet somehow this is indeed history. As an Android user (watching this video on the newest Samsung Flagship device/S22 Ultra) I can still appreciate the place in time and innovation Apple brought to the world through this device.
I had a 3GS in use literally for years. After retiring from phone duty, it went into a doc and we used it like an iPod. If I dug it out of the drawer it would still work. Nice piece of engineering. My Apple gear seems to last forever, which i think is very unique in the tech world.
I have never been able to afford an iPhone. I do own a mini iPad and I had the iPad mini 1 before that. That phone is so cool and nostalgic, if I had the money I would get one just for the history.
I came to this channel for an iMac review and I couldn’t be happier about finding this video. I still have this phone, even though it hasn’t worked for years 😂.
The closest thing that I still have to this is the original iPod touch with iPhone OS 1.1.5. It did have the iTunes app but still didn't have the app store.
Great video, I got an iPhone 2G off eBay for $80 and then I got sent the defective iPhone and then it wasn’t charging I got sent another one it had a camera issue the front camera isn’t working and the sound is faulty 😮
Iv has the 2g but the 8GB model with no home button and it was jail broken. I found it on the street. It worked really good just had to turn it off every time I want to go on a different app (it had 3.1.3)
Imagine being on a flight and having no idea that an Apple executive is sitting next to you with prototype technology in their bag that will go on to change phones forever
I love how he is more excited about the microfiber cloth than the phone itself
Well I knew the phone was in the box.... the cloth though? That's a real surprise
one could argue the Microfiber cloth is more useful today than the phone is.

fun fact : you had to pay the updates in 2007 to update iOS. updating become free since the iPhone 4
Can you still buy this?
In retrospective I think the launch of the App Store was the real revolution for the vision of mobile technology. But of course you need to have a device first that makes those things possible. The iPhone wouldn't have been the same without the opportunity to get new apps, and giving third parties the opportunity to get their apps on other user's iPhones was just the best decision ever and the necessary work of pionieering and innovation for google, samsung etc.
No, you could also plug in 3rd party headphones to the iPhone, so long as the connector was thin like the OEM iPhone headphones. Granted, they weren't widespread, but they were out there.
If the third and fourth numbers add up to less than 48? Since when can any two single digit numbers ever add up to more than 18? Let alone 48?!
Fascinating. I've never owned, used, or even been interested in Apple products. Yet somehow this is indeed history. As an Android user (watching this video on the newest Samsung Flagship device/S22 Ultra) I can still appreciate the place in time and innovation Apple brought to the world through this device.
The iPhone 1st gen came with a dock, charger and EarPods. Mine came just the phone itself and a cable (i haven’t bought the cube yet lol)
“Love those sounds” zooms in 😂
Nice to see the humble beginnings of the iPhone. It really makes me appreciate just how far it has come.
I had a 3GS in use literally for years. After retiring from phone duty, it went into a doc and we used it like an iPod. If I dug it out of the drawer it would still work. Nice piece of engineering. My Apple gear seems to last forever, which i think is very unique in the tech world.
ngl if they revives this design,I would buy it,the feel of the phone on hand is superb,it's comfortable.
10:46 How can 2 single digit numbers add up to more than 48?? 🤔🤔
OMG I remember that from back in 2007! I felt like big boss man unboxing that.
This thing is so expensive today but I really like its design
The dock has to be on the table to judge sound quality from it. 🤦♂️
Great video, I got an iPhone 2G off eBay for $80 and then I got sent the defective iPhone and then it wasn’t charging I got sent another one it had a camera issue the front camera isn’t working and the sound is faulty 😮
How much you want for it? I’ve ALWAYS wanted one.
Still got one on 1.0 but the volume down button is jammed :(
keep it, even motherboard with iOS 1.0 is worth more and more
I still have my first iPhone 2G working with no batt issues
Iv has the 2g but the 8GB model with no home button and it was jail broken. I found it on the street. It worked really good just had to turn it off every time I want to go on a different app (it had 3.1.3)
Why does my HTC One from 2013 act all jittery but this iPhone from 13 years ago still operates smoothly???!
Imagine being on a flight and having no idea that an Apple executive is sitting next to you with prototype technology in their bag that will go on to change phones forever
5:31 is that the original power brick? Looks like something from a 2018 ipad
Yes it is
