Cory, not only have your videos gained you're business a customer, but in the 4-6 hours of your videos that I've geeked out on, I've learned a ton! I'll be ordering from you for sure, and hopefully if I have a question, you'll have time to answer! Thanks for your dedication to spreading knowledge!
I'm "old school" & haven't been into aquariums in 40 years. After binge watching your videos this past week think I'll get back into it a little, with a nano tank. Love your video's.
How many do you have now? I'm up to 6, mostly thanks to Cory and KG Tropicals. I have done salt water and various fish tanks off and on for 20 years. Also a new fish pond I'm going to start stocking this summer.
Man, I love you Cory!!!! I’ve been researching mini ponds and found this video and love it. I’m a subscriber so I don’t know how I missed it to begin with, but you are such a wealth of information!!
worst predator I had was a Florida river otter. cleared out almost my whole pond. found out by walking in my backyard to around 25 colorful koi heads scattered around. ate 250 goldfish within a month. mind you these goldfish were an easy 12in long and the koi were around 20-30in. lucky I had a couple koi live that ended up breeding. almost drove me crazy for the month I spent with no sleep tring to scare off one of the smartest animals I've ever come across. I swear I made a little look out spot within about 5 feet from me that It would watch and wait for me to leave. this otter had the mouth of a pitbull and from head to tail was easily over 4-5 feet long. reminded me of a giant ferret.
Otter are crazy. I live in mn and as a kid worked at a lake resort. Every Saturday new guests would arrive and tie their minnow buckets to the docks. Like clockwork the otters would show up. Chew the rope, take the minnow bucket and swim on their back with their head in the bucket.
I was just watching your shared video of the Asian man and wife store owners. Wow what a wonderful mindset he has about his lifestyle and caring for fish.. Very informative...
This is inspiring me to get out more...into my yard😆 My land lord and neighbors would be somewhat surprized as I been quite the proverbial "hermit", but dolling up my otherwise rather bare yard with some simple water features and rockwork would be impressive and rewarding more ways than one.
So cool! I have a spare 90 gallon stock tank and am definitely gonna do some white clouds in it now! I had no clue that they could overwinter with snow, thanks for the video!!! :)
Man I wish he could speak at the oregon capitol aquarium society. We hardly have anyone speaking but its still a fun little meeting. Or the salem albany aquarium society in oregon.
very nice talk good stories and info...i use fish tanks outdoors I'm about to get ready to start shutting down soon up here in the ready coast should be getting ready to chill down
thinking about a pond. but gathering knowledge first. QUESTION- how bout the temp goes down to 25 F? what can i still keep in the pond during winter? what plants and fish/shrimp? im in GA btw.
I love water lilies, so I use a 35 gallon stand alone McCourt circular pond with 3 shelves. They sell them at Lowes and Home Depot. I tossed 4 zebra danio glowfish in there to keep the mosquitos under control, along with an Aquarium Co-op sponge filter. Those glowfish reproduced like crazy, and by the end of the season, I had the fattest zebra danio glowfish I've ever seen. I've had golden white clouds live year round in extreme temps in the southeast, but the glowfish just show up better, and are voracious mosquito eaters.
I just saw this presentation! I know im a little late kind of funny i've been watching you for a long time but I must have missed this video! Great presentation! Did you see any sort of fancy guppies or feeder guppies? Last time I was in florida I caught lots of wild sailfin mollies and some plecos maybe an oscar or two but never any more then that I have heard rumors of angels, arowanas all kinds of cichlids and even fancy guppies living in florida!
Aquarium Co-Op Lol im just a bit above florida we get plenty of gambusia here and there great and I of course love getting my guppies out mid may and taking them in late september perks of living in a pretty southern state.
Aquarium Co-Op Haha well hopefully it'll get better I might post some stuff on my guppy tubs when I get them out and my betta fry I decided to breed bettas as it was something I wanted to do when I was a little kid many years ago kind of a bucket list to say after breeding cichlids livebearers and all kinds of fish I figure why not take it back to my first fish as a kid! I'll definetly get to posting some tub videos giving progress on all the tubs and what not
Great talk. What about an old bath? :) Do rubbermaid sell the 80+ gallon ones here in the UK does anyone know? All I can find is hideously priced things.
Hi Corey, you mention putting aquarium plants in your pond, but does it also work vice versa? Can I put some water lilys for instance from my pond into my aquarium tank?
Hot water heater elements are cheap even if you buy one for 220 power you can still run them on 110 no problem just buy a step drill bit tap a hole in your plastic tote and silicone it in…I’ve even put it inside of a bulkhead fitting with a pvc pipe threaded onto the inside with holes drilled out to protect the fish from touching the hot element..could also only put it into one with a slow flow…
Love this Corey I know it’s an older one but you were talking about Cory outside I have a half acre farm farm approximately 200 x 100 slope slowly and the depth of 9 feet no other large fish !How many Croix would you say at 45 inches would you put in a half acre some of the quarry farms want you to get so money baby wall to walk away you think they would breed We put in 27th of this spring for the first time in 40 years I’m extremely excited we did it by the mailbox for the UPS man to come I think he thought we were crazy we have a tendency to leave the fish by your back door in boiling weather if you happen to be doing nothing which I know you’re extremely busy or future talk could you answer the question. It is now 1230 at night and I don’t know what we do without you during your founder on it you’re my new TV show haven’t watched TV in a long time all I do is look up Golden retriever puppies watercolors horses and of course aquariums have a blessed week Cory don’t sweat the small stuff and have an incredible time at Aqua shella .
Last year i hat my little pond. I put in 50 Red Fire and 35 Endler. I ended with 30 Red Fire, 20 Endler and over 300 dragonfly Larvae... this year i will have a wide net or something in my ponds... or any other tips?
Good Afternoon Cory, Regarding a minipond, I have a 30 gallon mini pond that I leave above ground. I live in PA, do you think its possible to prevent it from freezing?
You'd want to build it a little green house, put bales of hay around the outside of it, and a piece of plexi or glass over the top and you could probably do it.
Hey man I'm about winter soon, lows around 50 degrees at nights here in California, I have guppies and endlers in a few coolers and was wonder if they would survive at that temp?
You'd want to test the water temp in the early morning if it's getting below say 68, it's probably just a matter of time before some disease takes hold.
Hello thank you for all the wonderful imformation. I would like to raise bettas outdoor and would like your opinion on how low of a temperature would the fish be able to withstand? i am worried about the temperatures over night. i am shocked you can take your platies down to 35 degree at night. that is almost freezing!!!
+vietboi4lyf3 I pretty much quarantine everything, but in general since I quarantine before I put them out, I tend to not quarantine when they come back in as they go into their own tank anyways
+DJBAcHIGU No we don't stock anything like that at the shop. Would be special order only. We only carry plant friendly species of fish as that is our focus.
+Aquarium Co-Op man, seems like shops are falling off. Ever since Kevin left a place for pets, the stock selection has gone down. Know of any place up in your area that does stock these types of fish?
Well the fish that go into them, I have quarantined before hand so it would be unlikely disease would start in there. But netting them and putting them in a specimen container for observation works.
A real dumb question, but what is a safe way to connect a sponge filter outside like that? I'd imagine a regular aquarium air pump and power cord/strip will probably break outside?

I enjoyed your talk, in person and again on video.
Hi from Singapore. Loved this talk! I keep Medaka in my balcony ponds...will add Amano shrimp now....
2 and a half years on and Cory's still persuading me to get a pond for this summer haha
Man I wish he could speak at the oregon capitol aquarium society. We hardly have anyone speaking but its still a fun little meeting. Or the salem albany aquarium society in oregon.
wow, great information, totally want to try this next summer.
Yeah it's pretty low key and fun.
Really a wonderful talk. Thanks for posting this.
Really enjoyed watching very inspiring superb knowledge
Cory's the man! love your videos dude!
I used a sock and put it on the inlet of my filter to stop fish from getting sucked in
I enjoyed this talk - Thank you. Always good to have a laugh at well!.
Great presentation Cory! I started breaking mine down today and will finish tomorrow.
Thank you so much for sharing that! I learned a lot. I'm super excited to be setting up a pond this Spring!
+Occasional Aquatics glad you enjoyed.
Great presentation!

I was really contemplating setting up a pond, but now summers over and I live in Rhode Island, looks like I'll wait another year
Okay, totally doing a outside pond next season now!
Thank you for sharing this.!
+Pennie Wyatt glad you enjoyed it
You should be on TED Talk!
great lecture. The larvae is a Predaceous Diving Beetle larvae, not a dragon fly larvae.
I think you're right on that
Yes that is correct.
great info Cory Mac Elroy

+Chaotic Gaming I didn't see any guppies in the wild so to speak. I think the gambusia just out compete them in every water way.
Aquarium Co-Op Lol im just a bit above florida we get plenty of gambusia here and there great and I of course love getting my guppies out mid may and taking them in late september perks of living in a pretty southern state.
+Chaotic Gaming yep. Still too cold here for fish to go out.

I love these oldre videos.
Finally you upload! Love it!

@Michael old porcelain tubs make awesome ponds!
This is why winter is the off season for me, not Summer. Summer is my season.
Question do you remove the dead fish? Or do you let nature take its course?
Great channel Cory! I've learned a lot. Do you have to dose your ponds ? Where do the nutrients come from?
Typically I start the season off with some fertilizer, but then try to rely on things falling into the ponds and food to be the nitrogen source.
Hi Corey, you mention putting aquarium plants in your pond, but does it also work vice versa? Can I put some water lilys for instance from my pond into my aquarium tank?
Usually it's pretty difficult for us to provide enough light to them in doors.

Learned more. Thanks!
I watched one hunt a Mosquitofish fry and eat it last summer it was terrible and beautiful
Thank you
Last year i hat my little pond. I put in 50 Red Fire and 35 Endler. I ended with 30 Red Fire, 20 Endler and over 300 dragonfly Larvae... this year i will have a wide net or something in my ponds... or any other tips?
i used to have a pet gator lol. Lil' Ivan.
50:57 I didn't know you could hit those tones😂😂
Great video.
Once we did that and holy cow leeches everywhere.
What are my options for central Texas? Could I do Angel fish outside in a 300 gallon pond?
Good Afternoon Cory,
Regarding a minipond, I have a 30 gallon mini pond that I leave above ground. I live in PA, do you think its possible to prevent it from freezing?
You'd want to build it a little green house, put bales of hay around the outside of it, and a piece of plexi or glass over the top and you could probably do it.
Thanks for the response, It sounds like it may be better for me just to bring them inside.
I'm in the audience lol
Where can I buy one of this ponds?
How did.get permits to ship the fish
What do you mean when you talk about a par meter? Is a par a unit of measurement?
Yes, a measurement of light penetration and for aquariums it would mean through water
@@AquariumCoop Thank you for the fast response sir. Do you know what temp they will start dying off at?
Angelfish Pond?
Hello thank you for all the wonderful imformation. I would like to raise bettas outdoor and would like your opinion on how low of a temperature would the fish be able to withstand? i am worried about the temperatures over night. i am shocked you can take your platies down to 35 degree at night. that is almost freezing!!!
I haven't done bettas, but I wager they can handle the 60s easily enough.
Thank you!
do u quarantine the fish when you bring them back in for the winter?
+vietboi4lyf3 I pretty much quarantine everything, but in general since I quarantine before I put them out, I tend to not quarantine when they come back in as they go into their own tank anyways
nice video bro :
I didn't see guppies on the list for keeping them outside? Can that be done?
Yes, it can be done.
where is that everglades video
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can you still grow plants if the pond is in the shade
Yes, even in the shade, the PAR is really high compared to our aquariums.
Brotha, do you have any Lyonsi or festae at the shop?
+DJBAcHIGU No we don't stock anything like that at the shop. Would be special order only. We only carry plant friendly species of fish as that is our focus.
+Aquarium Co-Op man, seems like shops are falling off. Ever since Kevin left a place for pets, the stock selection has gone down. Know of any place up in your area that does stock these types of fish?
have you tried to talk Shawn armentrout from aquatic support system?
How do you check for diseases in the tub?
Well the fish that go into them, I have quarantined before hand so it would be unlikely disease would start in there. But netting them and putting them in a specimen container for observation works.
Starting Mini Ponds 2022
A real dumb question, but what is a safe way to connect a sponge filter outside like that? I'd imagine a regular aquarium air pump and power cord/strip will probably break outside?
Youn Kim I built a little shed with electric near my pond to house equipment out of the elements. It's slightly larger than a large dog house.
Warmouth are Lepomid Sunfish not a Cichlid!
Please use mosquito fish, do not allow mosquitoes to live and thrive
Screw the neighborhood kids, all of my mini pond fish gets stolen everytime till the he point i gave up outdoor tubbin
😔
you r the MAN
