Edwin Sarkissian u r the best. Shut out from Israel. 🇮🇱 love your videos so much. I'm 17 years old and I'm volunteering in the Israeli police for a year now. I've got the m16 and I was, and still exciting for me shooting or carrying the gun. So when I c u shoot the 50
Bmg. I'm so satisfied. Plz keep up. And if u can plz shoot some Israeli weapons. Like the Galil ace. Tavor. Negev machinegun. Jericho pistol.

Lets keep in mind that spaced armor is way harder to penetrate than regular non-spaced plates. The reason is that the projectile has space to tumble, fragment and/or change flight while traveling in between the plates. Great video as always, love how you bring out different targets to be shot with crazy rounds.

That's also why the black tip didn't make it as far. It just happened to yaw on exit and break up hence the two impacts.

    • @alnov91

Thats not exactly true, layers are important, but space is a negative. Energy transfer is the goal, and space between layers denies the transfer of energy.

  • @seedlesstom

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but copper work hardens. The more it's deformed, the harder it gets. That could be part of the reason the black tip didn't do as much damage and is almost certainly why the bullet turned left. It kept pulling towards the softer side. You can anneal the copper to get it back to a pliable state after it's been work hardened.

The second shot veered off in a direction away from where the first shot went in. The first shot made the metal around the hole it created harder from compression forces. If fired at fresh copper plates it would have gone through all three.

So your second shot might have hit a hardened region of the copper. When deformed copper actually gets much stronger and harder, that's the kind of skin-like patterning you see around the penetrations.

Amazing that a projectile can penetrate 3 inches of copper and still have lethal power. I recall from documentaries hearing stories of American troops in tanks getting hit by 50 cal bursts. They said the bullet would bounce around inside the cockpit and sometimes kill someone.

Deathdragon228 But it wasn't the steel penetrator that went through with the apit. It was the whole bullet, jacket and all, which was unexpected. But a regular ap round usually should penetrate better than an apit. Work hardening is all I can think of.

On a serious note. It would be nice to see the limits of each 50 BMG projectile. Specifically, how much material is required to resist penetration by each type of round. Start with softer materials of increasing thickness, like copper and aluminum and work your way up to 7075/7475 T6 then onto brass, mild steel, hardened steel. This way we could see the limits of each round. It would be a bit more of an experiment than you are used to but that is no big deal. You have the equipment, interest and God knows you have the time... lol. It would be a series of videos that many people would be interested in AND it would keep you out of trouble for a few months. Think about it. I actually do not know what those limits are and it would be nice to know.

Before I see your video I've been very interested in this this should be very very good I was thinking about doing a project to making something bulletproof and I was going to use copper to soften the low before I use something like titanium or tungsten

might be nice to know a bit more about the rounds you fired. like projectile weight in grains, and perhaps the powder charge amount to give us some real world details. obviously that first round being tracer incendiary has a different jacket but being armor piercing is that tungsten or depleted uranium? just a few thoughts.

You should try truck rubber tries and 50 cal bullet.
I am excited to watch in slow motion to hit a soft material
