Finding a few silver certificates years ago is what started me collecting!
Being a teller would make it easy to find those notes.
Best score I had was the teller fom the bank called me and said a guy was in there that had a $1000.00 and a $500 note... It was almost closing tiime and bank had to veriify to make sure they were real. They acted like they didnt want to deal wiith him. I pulled up and asked the guy what he wanted for both notes .He said all i want is the $1500. Hell yeah bought both.......

I am the person you reference at the end of your video regarding the $500 gold certificate. The way it happened is a little bit different. I visited a Wells Fargo branch in Lafayette, CA about 2 years ago. I spoke to the teller about currency. He told me about a woman who walked into the branch a couple of months prior. She looking to exchange a $500 gold cert for common denominations. She explained that she found the note in a book owned by her late grandfather. By the teller's account, the note was AU. Since he wasn't a collector, I'm inclined to think it's closer to XF. The teller knew the note was worth money, though he didn't know how much ($20k+ in that condition). He wanted to buy the note from her, but didn't have $500 to pay her. He explained that he couldn't "borrow" the money from the drawer and pay it back later, or he would risk losing his job. Instead, the teller asked the woman to come back after his lunch, when he would have an opportunity to obtain some cash. The woman agreed to come back, but she never did. The teller thought she found out how much it was worth and kept it, or went to another bank.
I'm sorry to say this but I would have risked losing my job for a rare note like that Job's come easy. not 500 dollar gold certificates in that condition XD
About 10 years ago. I went to get a birthday card at a local Pharmacy in a wealthy town. I guess my clothes weren't high-class enough for the cashier. So she hands me back my change trying not to touch my hand or even make eye contact, which I almost wrinkled up in anger. But the dark green of a $20 bill caught my eye. I turned it over and saw the date. 1950-E. Then saw the STAR. Needless to say I had the last laugh. I sold it for over $125 on eBay as it was crisp uncirculated.
My BEST score to date October 11, 2017 to be exact is when I went to my local bank here in the good ole' bay area, cali. I found a stack of 1's that had 63 silver certificates 1935e-1957. in there were also a rag 1963 c douglas Dillon, and 11 1963B barr notes. the other 25 notes were 2000's. Oh man I had a great day that day.
Thanks for showing your video on the bills. I really never knew that you could ask the bank for them as long as they got them on hand, Charles
Thanks I got a date tonight!
It is very nice to see a collector discus the history of the item and how it was display
I'm actually the collector you referred to at the end of your video, regarding the $500 gold cert. The actual story is a little bit different. I walked into a Wells Fargo branch in Lafayette, CA. I was chatting with the teller about old notes. He explained that a woman walked into his branch, and asked to exchange a $500 bill. It turned out to be a $500 gold certificate in AU condition. Since the teller was not a collector, I'll assume his AU is closer to XF. He knew the bill was worth money, though he didn't know how much it was really worth ($20 - $25k). He wanted to buy it from her, but didn't have $500 on him. He couldn't just pull the money from his drawer and pay it back later, because he explained he could've lost his job over it. Instead he asked the woman to come back later that afternoon after his lunch break. During his lunch, he withdrew $500 cash to buy it from her, but the woman never returned.
Thanks for the advice, I had made friends with some tellers and from that they hold and look out for the IKE dollars that come through. Thanks
Wow thanks for the info!!! I'm always cashing checks and the next time I do will ask the teller just that!!!
great video. thats real good info and very encouraging to know all those bills are still in circulation. thanks blueridge.
@1:43 BlueRidges DATING TIPS 101 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
Thanks for showing this!☺
I always go through the drive-thru because I have anxiety when speaking to complete strangers for extended periods of time. I'd never be able to form a friendship with a bank teller.
Step by step and you'll do great Blake.
@@kona1967 Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it. My original comment was made three years ago. I've made a lot of progress in that timeframe. My banknote and coin collections have grown considerably since then.
@@AidenRKrone 👏 👏
How much would be a good price for one of the hawaii 1 dollar note
Sick collection. Thanks for sharing
Excellent advise my brother! I do exactly as you have instructed and have been rewarded as you have mentioned.
The star in the serial number is made when the bill is torn or damaged during production the bill is reprinted with a star so it is know that it is not a counterfeit.
Nice positive ending Subscribed!
Thank you brother.
Great finds at Wells Fargo i found a series 1963 $100 dollar star note
When I worked at a bank there were two or three guys that always tried to 'hit me up' for old coin and currency. They didn't want to bank with me ......yet they still came by monthly to see what I'd give them.
After a few weeks I absolutely dreaded to see them.
There was another guy that wanted me to order cases of rolled....fifty cent coins. I did it once and he purchased $200 worth in rolls. He also wanted 'free' fifty cent coin rollers. The very next week he brought most of these back and wanted me to order another case. I refused.....the shipping cost on a case of fifty cent coins is roughly $25 and the bank cannot return them unless the shipment totals $2000. So we were stuck with enough fifty cent coins to last for years.
Funny how none of these people wanted to bank with me.....yet thought nothing of asking for free stuff and tieing up my tellers with small talk.
Jimmy B That's exactly the kind of reaction I hope to avoid from coin roll hunting. I'm terribly concerned that I'll become something akin to "that guy" who comes in and causes aggravation. I'm trying to take precautions, but the anxiety is still there.
Very interesting perspective! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, great info!
Very informative video. Thanks.
Nice video :) A lot of rare bills there.
Those are some nice looking bills.
Really cool info!
...but thank u for showing us your nice collection.
I have a good bit of Old and rare coins and bills

This is the best thing every

If you collect pennies and come across a 1943 penny it's worth over a thousand dollars
I got a 1966 $100 rednote
lol i began to recognize your voice without looking at your screen name. so which dates should we begin to collect? is there a beginning date to look for? i am speaking about old notes not about errors. which books or website links are for a reference to look for dates? thanks
YOUR VIDEOS ARE AWESOME! YOU SHOULD DO THIS FOR A LIVING. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP.
I tried it last week asking for old bills right away this other tiller said I have silver dollar coins do you want them and then the other tiller said there 2 old 5s want them then when I was leaving that teller said give me your number I'll phone you when we get more
Whoa how nice of them
Should the Birth year be at the end or beginning of the serial number? Or does it matter?
wow, interesting!
I have 4 $2 bills that are in order on the serial numbers, what would that be worth?
Imakevids67 what's the year and bank made?
probably 4 dollars but there are a few exceptions and I do. mean very few .
$8
any body know if ben franklin was ever on a 1000 dollar bill.I found one cleaning out a attic but I cant find a image of him on one but it looks legit.
if you have a bill with one of the numbers printed bigger than the other numbers is it valuable
I want to the bank today and dropped off $60 worth of Dimes. I have a pretty good relationship with the teller and he said "are you sure you want your usual stack of $1 bills I have a 1950 $20 bill for you." so I exited the bank with a 1950 $20 bill that is in stellar condition.
I go to a bank where the manager probably knows by now that I'm a coin/bill collector. Once in a while, I ask her for rolls of pennies and she is happy for me to buy a box. I haven't asked for any old bills- don't want to tempt my luck with the manager.
Hi i have 3 dollar silver certificate with a star on the numbers how much are they now
cool
My dad used to occasionally bring the bank teller girls a bunch of pastries I asked him why and he said one day I may want a favor and they’d be more likely to help me.
Just went to the local bank and now have them on lookout for old currency, apparently they had some last week, but already sent it to the fed. Oh well, I did what I could, they're going to call if they get anything.
Teller gave me dozen crisp red seals & silver certificates but they had a black mark on them .at face probably only face value kept them look unc.
How much cost 2 dollars 1786g?
Why not show the reverse side of your notes, particularly the "funny back" one you mentioned.
It is indeed possible to find such old banknotes at any bank. But you have to be there just in time. Once they know you after a while they will even make you the offer to call you when they have something. The chances to create a relationship to your teller are much higher in smaller branches rather than in bigger ones like in downtown i.e. But on the other hand the chances are much higher at the bigger branches to get these old notes. But the driving and the time you need to invest in order to wait and to get the bills are much higher at the end than buying them at the coin store for a more expensive price instanlty. I think that makes it even. But it is fun anyway. I made the experience that the very old bills you get at the bank are in a very poor condition. Pre 1970 super rare and mostly worn out.. From 1970: mostly better, not worth to collect imho, but uncirculated. Bills from 1990 but stars: not worth to collect. (Probably in 50 years...)
Thanks for the video. But what about when you have bills that are thrashed and have 85/90 % and you can't really go through the treasury exchange deal?
My financial institution changed and said that they were going to still be the same and that's not at all what happened. Before it wasn't a big deal but this new group of kids they have these days.
Found a $10 bill from 1929 federal reserve bank of Boston a national banknote!
I already knew that 3 banks are saving me anything that is old rare and they also order me a $500 & $1,000 dollar bills
Stacey Evans
They do exist but are rare:
Although they are still technically legal tender in the United States, high-denomination bills were last printed on December 27, 1945, and officially discontinued on July 14, 1969, by the Federal Reserve System.
The Federal Reserve began taking high-denomination bills out of circulation in 1969, after an executive order by President Nixon (rather than actual legislation passed by Congress). As of May 30, 2009, only 336 $10,000 bills were known to exist; 342 remaining $5,000 bills; and 165,372 remaining $1,000 bills.
order for you? wrong
I got a $1 bill that is a star note from the year 2003 and it has the serial numbers h041 49 370
it's a constatation,not an insult.
what does the star mean?
I don't find much of those bills anymore I'm glad I was given a 1934 5 dollar silver certificate most of my old bills aren't worth anything poor shape
Does this work with more modern, newer banks? Or only the quite older ones? Because I think that the older banks have more access to the older notes and coins, or am I mistaken?
+garrote seventy You'll find the same selection at either.
Do you collect star notes?
poor tellers are being used for their bills
Lol
Would this work if I am a kid? I really don't think bank tellers would take me seriously. If you could reply it would be great! Have a great day and as always excellent video!
Collector 123 Probably, tellers tend to be nicer to children.
+Collector 123 I have the same opinion as the other poster who answered. People are generally nicer to kids. So being a kid may be an advantage in your search for rare bills.
are star notes rare?
GREAT VINTAGE $ 5 DOLLAR BILL !!!
what this guy says is legit information,,, ive been grooming these 2 kinda airheady but nice girls at wells fargo,,, they have one of those skinny folgers coffee cans. (not the fat ones) there on site just to stash good shit for me,,,, mostly susan b’s and ikes is the take ,, but ...none the less its proof that what this guys says is indeed true,, and there are hundreds of thousands of banks out there,, the smaller the town the better..... also.... in my experiences....
anyone still finding old bills at the bank, mine seems to have run dry a little bit? i was starting to think about heading to other banks in addition to see if they have anything...
Do you live in North Carolina?
Birth years can they be any bill even the new ones
Hey I have a question, I've been sitting on a 1928 series B $20 bill. It's stamp is light green, and it's got two minor folds. Any rough estimate of the value? I can't find a stable price online.
I'll give you $40
I have a old $2 with red ink is it worth anything
Yes it's worth like $6-$8
I got a 1934 $20.00 bill fromm the ATM at my bank 2 years ago. Its in pretty good shape No damage or marks. What would be a good guesstimate on this?
+Roy Neptune $30 or so. They're not rare nor hard to come by.
+dadasmithywinkle I've searched through tens of thousands of bills and my luckiest find was a 1950C silver certificate...
YoloBagels Do you mean 1935C? There was no 1950C.
what if you have a all red ink 5 dollar
What kind of bank that I want to inquire this $1000,$100, $100,000 old USA money. Please help me The value of this money?

About a year ago U.S. Bank gave me 5 1974 $100 Bills! I was furious because nobody would cash them!!! Finally I went back and got my money exchanged but I regret it to this day.
+BiltonFriends who wouldnt cash them? Most places have a pen or marker they can test the paper with....the design is different but the paper is still the same.
WreckingCrewResurgen Seriously nobody would take the bills from me . At the moment I worked 65 miles from home and had no gas, tho I had $500 im my wallet. until I finally walked into a walmart and opened a family bag of salt and vinegar chips and drank 1/2 of a Voss LMAO! they called the manager over and she accepted A bill finally. She said she could tell it was real because she used to be a bank teller. I got lucky lol
Hi, i have a 1976 $2 bill where the green serial number and stamp on the right side is off center (it's too low). I can't seem to find any videos that talk about that particular error. What do you thinK? Also, I have three $2 bills, 1976, all in sequence. Are they worth anything?
I forgot to add that the bills in sequence are also star notes
+Iamalwaysgodschild Are you interested in selling those notes? I'm new to collecting but 2$ bills are my favorite it seems like and that would be super cool to have three 2$ bills in sequence. let me know, Thank you.
+K sweeney You can get them new from the bank
I have 1976 $2 bills ,in order 2 groups of them . 22 bills & 36 bills in sequence. All in uncirculated condition. also have others years & types
