"Let somebody else try first" Genuinely one of the coldest lines... I love it when the doctors get to do a speech
Ten had some excellent speeches. "I'm the Doctor and you're in the biggest library in the universe. Look me up." But he also had the walk to back the talk. Eleven was all speeches all the time. He either did nothing, gave a speech, and won the day by speaking his enemies to failure, or he steamrolled everything off camera and treated everything like an absolute joke. There was never any weight to anything he did. Later Doctors were no better.
@@Ryvaken11 was a lot more about having such a reputation that they should just leave without trying. And also he did do thing’s occasionally, but I think the doctor is more unique when they don’t do much other than just convince the enemy that them leaving is the best option
What was scary was the episode where Tenant had used the fob watch and forgotten he was the doctor. Three entities that stole souls, I think, tried to feed off his school. He just narrates what he does with them when he comes too. He trapped the daughter in every mirror everywhere, the father he wrapped in chains forged in a neutron star and chucked him into a black hole. I can't quite remember what he did to the mother. But what was creepy is he explained if you ever look in a mirror and something quickly dashes out of sight that is the daughter trying to hide from him.
"Everybody knows that everybody dies and nobody knows it like the Doctor. But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark if he ever for one moment, accepts it. Everybody knows that everybody dies. But not every day. Not today. Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed. Some days, nobody dies at all. Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call... everybody lives.”

One of my favorite moments that shows who the doctor is then all the threats he has ever made
the only episode(s) that freaked me out abit, still was good though
In Doctor Who, the question is never "Will the Doctor be defeated." It's always "How many will the Doctor fail to save before he wins."
I love the pre-sadness, and hint of exhasution in Tenant's voice every time he says "I'll have to stop you"
Basically "Don't make me do something to you that I don't want to do."
The Doctors identity as the protector of the innocent and the defenseless is one of my favorite aspects of the character. They're not worshipped or thanked but they're always there to help. Havent seen a video that really captures that until now.

@afrenchdwfan5285 100% I love the contrast between the protector and the monster. The doctor embodying the idea that to be the protector you have to hurt innocents. And the guilt the doctor has over that is so interesting.
A bluff can only work for a little while. What works for much LONGER is if you have already proven that you are both willing and capable of doing far WORSE than what you are currently threatening them with.
“Yeah. And doesn’t that just scare you to death.”

One of the things in Doctor Who I love, is a good confrontation scene. The best is the War Machines, when the army unit run from the Machine, and the Doctor, clutching his lapels, stands his ground. He puts one foot forward. Then another, then another. Then he straightens his back, and looks into the light of the beast. Just brilliant

The doctor never fears that he can't stop someone from doing harm on others, he fears for when he has to.
That is a very interesting way if looking at it

I'm sure even the pre-'05 Doctors had their moments to add to this... espcially the Bakers.

Well, it took a little while for it to appear before my eyes but I am glad that it did :)
I am too young to have seen Dr Who from the start but I did join the journey with Jon Pertwee so I have been there for most of the way. And I cannot tell you just when it was that the Doctor became the protector of humanity in general and the Earth in particular; I think it was a tale that grew in the telling, each story adding to the legend organically.
For me tho', probably the greatest addition to the canon was Capaldi's speech in The Zygon Inversion - that was powerful and true and, presently, world leaders could do with listening to him.
IMO The Doctors best line is from Matt Smith.
"Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically......run."
Such an epic line 🤩 and the music behind is 🔥

@@MegaLokopo I don't think Jodie Whittaker is a bad actor. But of course, I also don't think she was on par with the previous actors. It's like she falls just a tad bit short at being The Doctor. That's just my opinion.
Videos like this really highlight either A the writing on the 13th doctor was not as good as the last 4 or B the actress wasnt up to pushing the same power into her performance as the last 4 actors did in similar scenes. I mean i get chills listening to the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th doctors declare their threats to protect but dont get that same feeling of awe and power from the 13th doctor.
In my opinion the writing was poor. Started going downhill during Capaldis time
@@anotheruserism I only saw a few of the first episodes for his run but id heard his writing wasn't as good as smith's.
“Earth is protected by me and my mates”. THIS is why my family stopped watching. Terrible writing that is painfully out of character compared to all the previous Doctors.
Its a bit of both.
The scene we see of her is kind of bottom tier acting, and now that Ive seen it I just cant unsee how minimal her body language is, especially around 1:55. Thats nowhere near the same energy all the other actors wouldve put in, like Capaldi literally a few seconds later, its the same "point at the ground" hand motion, but Capaldi puts immense energy into it. Whittaker on the other hand just kind of does it like a 12 year old doing a stage play and being afraid to overact and look silly.
And the writing, yeah, it also was nowhere near the previous quality. It just lacked the same vision, and if there is no vision there is nothing worth conveying, so the whole thing falls flat. Doctor who is a show where that is probably more true than any other show.
I don't think that "awe and power" was the intent in the first place. 13 is the first Doctor in decades who very clearly is just a traveller who helps people instead of this super important almighty legend archetype that we had been getting since the McCoy era. It got really old in my opinion so it was really refreshing to realise that the Chibnall era is a rejection of that whole concept and brought the character back to their roots (the Timeless Child arc is literally a metaphor for this rejection, and made this era all the better for it).
I think the saddest part of the 13th doctor's run is that any compilation I see like this I barely see any clips from her era.
Truth is she was less threatening than the others, I find this sad as well

They all brought something to the table and did a great job with the techno babble and Green screens of their times.
Scripts and Budget also had a say in it.
My list though was based on how much fun I had watching them.

For me, it was the lack of these speeches..that arrogance & threat.. that was the thing most missing from 13th’s era- that was nearly always about the collective & not that half angel/half devil that manifests in the others. Jodie had all the talent in the world to deliver these.. she just wasn’t given the opportunity to.

Nah, I'm glad 13's era did away with these self-indulgent speeches about how "badass" the Doctor is. They were cool to do once in a while but the Moffat era really ran them into the ground. It was a nice breath of fresh air when the Chibnall era stopped doing them and finally gave us a Doctor that isn't full of themselves.

It’s a shame really because Jodie Whittaker is a great actress but the actual script makes her doctor seem so powerless…
@@margotleprince1395 I do not know her. She never had any interesting or significant role. But that is not issue, Tennant, Smith or Capaldi were also zeroes before Doctor. Problem with Jodie is, that she has zero charisma and obviously did not know how to play Doctor with distinctive style added by every male actor (in renewed show, i am not much familiar with old one) so she obviously tried to copy all her predecessors with very poor result. And lazy bad writing by showrunners since second half of season 10 (yes, during Capaldi reign) did not help her much either. For me was Doctor Who at its peak with Tennant, and his Tenth Doctor is for me the best Doctor, bud Smith, Capaldi and even Eccleston are all very good doctors. Jodie, is so bad, that I consider her era as fanfiction era and she as pretender.
@@tomascernak6112 agreed as much as I like her I think the casting was wrong, for me doctor who with her isn’t doctor who, the storyline is terrible and her character doesn’t even feel like the doctor .. anyway thank god Russell t Davies is back :))
@@margotleprince1395 I am not so optimistic as you are. I do not believe, that Davies has what is needed to save Doctor Who. His style of writing is specific mixture of foolishness, horror and childishness. It worked in 2005-2010 because audience there was mainly children and teenagers, but they are adult now and such naivity how Doctor was written in that Gold era would not be tolerated by them anymore. But we will see. Return of Tennant has potential of saving the franchise, but return of most annoying companion is not ideal start. Also there is still that ngr in the air, who would be maybe worse choice than Jodie was.
@@tomascernak6112 Same could be said for the old to new series. The children/teenagers of the old series were adults when the new one aired.
If you try to follow the aging of your audience, sooner or later they die out. Better to keep the show what they liked and hope a new generation also like it
