If I were interested in just using this camera as a hobbyist, just taking 3d photos and videos for viewing on 3d monitors, and using the depthmaps to upload 3d facebook pictures, would I be completely out of my league with this camera? Is it something that would be good for what I described? I want more than what Qoocam can offer.

You're better off with one of their USB stereo cameras (any of their stereo cameras that are available now like the ZED 2.
Will there be a mini with USB or gige? The gsml2 is just extra cost
